I love your attitude, you're not angry or insulting to the people you disagree with. That's very rare these days. I love that You pointed out that using what the majority believes as an argument is a terrible idea (Matt 7). I have to say though I think you're missing a major point. The early writers were not Catholic, they were also not Protestant. They were simply Christians, and a part of the one church Christ established (Acts 2:47). The church has been in existence since Peter preached on Pentecost, but it has since denominated. It was split by false teaching starting early on in the first century, and was later denominated further into the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church split and produced Protestant denominations. What we need to do is go back to the original before the Protestants, before the Catholics, before the false doctrine. The Bible should be our only source for doctrine (2 Pet 1:3, 1 Tim 6:3). I say this is kindly as I can, but I noticed you don't use much scripture in your rebuttal. You seem to almost be rebutting scripture with your preconceived idea. When we hear a teaching we disagree with, we have to listen to it and ask ourselves if we disagree based on what scripture teaches (1 Thes 5:21) or because of our feelings and what we've been taught by others. Jesus will forgive us of every sin we repent of (1 John 1:9). If we refuse to repent he will not forgive us (Luke 13:3). Repentance is not just something we have to do at the moment of salvation. It's a lifelong commitment (1 John 1:7). I think your logic is flawed when you say that Christ would have to die again if a Christian could be lost. Christ death paid the price of sin, but He will not apply His forgiving blood to our sins that we don't repent of. The price was paid once, but we must repent of any sin we want to be forgiven. Analogies aside, where does the Scripture teach otherwise?

my brother Jeremiah ..but loook Acts is not a doctrinal book but ts eye witness account..Epistles are for doctrine..Paul clearly made a comment on Tongued thats ts a heavenly language..what happened in Acts as it is based on eye witness account was rather the interpretation of the tongues which was Prophecy..that Joel prophecy was fulfilled that man shall dream dreams and prophecy etc..And Paul calls that interpretation of tongues..prophecy..thats a background..

I was away 10 years and am finally back!

I’m so glad I was in a church that didn’t believe in any of the gifts. I thought it was wrong. I thought I was baptized in the Holy Spirit when I was saved. So when one night me and two friends where in the church one friend laid his hands on me and BOOM I was baptized into the Holy Spirit. It was the most amazing thing. And understand when I say I didn’t believe it for 6 months after when I prayed in tongues I would listen for a cuss word. But of course it never happened and it only brought me closer to God. It was truly out of this world. And all the years before it I thought I had been on fire for God but it wasn’t even close. I’m so glad I was in a church that didn’t believe in any of the gifts. Wait so your spirit praying is the same as walking in the spirit? How does that work? “For if I pray in a tongue, my SPIRIT prays, but my mind is unfruitful.” 1 Cor 14:14 It’s hard to get around that with walking in the spirit is the same as your spirit praying. Also it’s hard to say that the Bible doesn’t say praying in a tongue is your spirit praying when it literally just did. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.

I’m committed to tithing and would aim for a baseline of 10%, but I’m also volunteering my skills in the church’s tech department. Can my skills be considered a form of tithing? If so, I’m thinking of contributing 7% of my monthly income and 3% of my time to the church. I’m not sure if there’s a scriptural basis for this approach.

It is speaking to JEWS and GENTILES, but we see later on if the JEWS want to rely on the works of the law to be saved and they want to JUDGE one another by the law thinking they are more righteous than those who don't have the law, Paul is telling them to be careful how they judge others because they too are going to be judged. This is written to legalists who will be judged by the law. So this is how the gospel speaks to the self righteous. This is in NO WAY written to Born Again believers. Christ set them free from the law of sin and death, so how can they be judged with the unrighteous. This is not speaking of Born Again believers, it's speaking about those who hold to the law. And to self righteous gentiles. This is what people IN THE WORLD do all the time! They compare themselves and put. themselves in different categories. Gentiles may not have received the law of Moses but they are judged by the law that is written on to the tablets of the heart by God. Paul is speaking to both Jew and gentile telling them to be careful not to judge others by the same standards that will judge them. And so what Paul is asking is what makes them, JEW & GENTILE believe that they will be able to stand on the day of judgment and be righteous before him without the atonement of Jesus Christ. THE WHOLE POINT IS TO SHOW THE JEW AND GENTILE THEIR SELF RIGHTEOUSNESS AND POINT THEM TO JESUS CHRIST FOR SALVATION AND RIGHTEOUSNESS THROUGH FAITH IN CHRIST JESUS THE LORD. God's gift of righteousness comes from Jesus Christ alone and not from our self righteousness. Mankind is called to be born again and enter into eternal life, not to be self righteous and pointing out the sins of those other guys when they themselves do not have the covering of the blood of Christ to give them Christ's righteousness. PS You deploy very good insight and analysis and that is to be celebrated. I am not a cessationist. But the Spirit wills certain gifts at certain times. What is clear is that the tongues practised today aren't real languages. I am not saying that glossalalia has no value or place. It might. But it's not what people claim it is.

Sometimes it's good to just jibber jabber. It can give you a good feeling and be uplifting. It can have its place in private devotions. Evidence points to this not being in the form of an actual language. If you want to obtain the benefit of praising God in an unknown language one could sing or say the Gloria in Latin. One can read a translation of the words as well as praying in an unknown language.
