I enjoy working on classic cars, and occasionally am asked to help fix later model vehicles. Each week, I try to post something about the two cars I personally own. A 1979 VW beetle convertible (white on white), and a 1977 MGB resto-mod (chrome bumper conversion).
from time to time I also post on home improvement and other craft projects. I am not a professional mechanic, but when I work through a problem I share the solution. so be sure to subscribe

How to replace Ender 3 Extruder Fans - the "easy" way
The Ender series of Creality 3d printers are intended to be test beds for people with a hand for tinkering (I feel anyway) as such they are pretty easy to maintain, and adapt. This video shows an easier way to perform the task of replacing the cooling fans on the extruder.

What about "telling" PCM there is a new battery installed?
Outstanding video!!!!! I did not have any luck with the hammer method either. And my 76 MGB was garage kept, with no rust. Air hammer techniques was painless, with no drama. Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@joeianniello That! Right there is why I do these videos. I help people by sharing my projects. And comments like this make it all worth it. Thanks
why is your idle so high? the throaty sound is cuz theres no air cleaner. why is your throttle respose so slow?
@falconbobb the weber dcoe has a cold start circuit it set the mixture rich. And increases the idle. I have set up an electric solenoid that engages it for two minutes. Then it disengages, and the idle reduces back to normal. The slow response is also due to this, and I have a Dcoe 45, so it favors higher RPM. Here is the video on my electric choke

So when it has off center weight on it, will the weight back drive the gears?
@mitchlake8607 you would think so, but it doesn't. The mechanical disadvantage prevents it. Check the follow up video I did where I try to break it.

Yeah , all the cons of that engine stand , gone.
Pretty freaking slick
Good video-when the battery’s removed does that require codes etc to reprogram the radio and other accessories?
On a 2010 the computerized systems are a lot less sophisticated. In this case the battery was dead do there was nothing to preserve. If you want to preserve the settings and radio etc, you can use a backup power source on the jumper locations. The dealer has a special tool that connects to the ODBII port.
In my opinion this vehicles are bad, on my 2015 jeep Cherokee I already replaced the thermostat, radiator, engine motor mounts and now is asking for the oil pressure sensor can wait to get rid of it.
For it being 10 years old that’s not a lot of things to go bad. Parts go bad on vehicles it’s normal. My 2016 I’ve replaced the thermostat last week after 105k miles and spark plugs and wires and now the oil pressure sensor. I consider myself pretty lucky
@ is true,Im just disappointed my is 74,000 miles and needed the motor mount already.
Definitely an improvement over pulling the pin and hoping for the best
Nice rides, living the dream
Thought you said you bought the stand at tractor supply in the other video 😂
@TrentCole-et1lp I did... Been a year, can't get my story straight. (Few years now)
That is an awesome idea!
Thanks!
Good ideal i will like to see it with an engine mounted on it.
@kerrygatling663 here is a short video of the stand in different orientations ruclips.net/video/Zxda4ZKFB_Y/видео.htmlsi=tACADDyrvIPvKFLy
@kerrygatling663 I had recorded the engine stand mod video 2 years ago. After a year I did a follow up video where I push it to the breaking point ruclips.net/video/IB90nr5EiGQ/видео.htmlsi=OTrogtLAW6S8F6Hs
Nice to see practical work. Nobody is going to be looking at the floor if it holds up. Caution with hydrochloric acid, the fumes rust bare metal that is in the vicinity. Removing rust with concentrated vinegar covered up with plastic gets rid of a lot of rust. Then treat with phosphoric acid( metalprep) converts any rust left. Good vid.
My hero 🫡
I'm not going to weld the gear in. Many times, I bolt the head to the engine then, slip it into the stand. I'll put a removable pin through the shaft. Other than, that, you got a great idea!
@lylejohnston4125 i recorded this video about 2 years ago. Harbor Freight has since started making a Gear Driven rotating engine stand. Sells for $300. Still more than my solution, but if you factor in the labor it might be worth it. I don't know how the bracket attaches on that one. I had fun making mine. Hope it helps with yours.
@@AlexPlatacis I'll make my own like , you! I also will try to make the gear attach with a tube OVER the shaft and it can be the thrust bearing for the opposite direction.
@lylejohnston4125 send me some pics, and vids I will do a "two years later" video with viewer feed back
You talked way too much for too much irrelevant information for such a simple project . That would explain why your RUclips channel failed.
Thanks for your uncensored critique. I am sure it helped someone somewhere. Don't know who, but i have been told "it's an ill wind that blows no man some good " Unless you are playing an oboe...
Great video
Thanks. Been wanting to make this upgrade for a while
Neat new tool. @@AlexPlatacis
Changing my sparks your video was helpful thnx
Great video and presentation.
Cool cars 😊
I think you put you thrust washers in backwards. The side with the slots should go against the crank. The smooth side should go against the block and cap.
I'm gonna have to research that a bit. the gray surface is the wear surface. so it makes sense that it would come in contact with the moving parts (ie the crank) but, you have sparked my interest. so in the spirit of collaboration, I am going to look for a reference that mentions that specifically. thanks
@@AlexPlatacis When you say "gray" surface, you mean the grooved side, right? That is the babbit and it should be against the rotating mass (IE, the crank shaft), as the babbit is softer than the crank. The babbit is the surface that will wear, not the crank. The smooth sides are steel and should not ride against the crank, as it will damage the crank. The smooth steel side should sit against the block/cap. Great video though. I enjoy watching the progress! I'm rebuilding an 18V now and your videos do help.
1 year later and you STILL havent figured out how important gear alignment is.
Now if only the wrom gear was lined up properly
I have standalone 10W laser engraver, but until this day I thought that I have to buy expensive paint in order to be able engrave metal. I have to try your approach with candle, that is some clever way to save some money. Btw I never engraved any metal even with that special paint, but would be interesting to try both approaches for comparison 🤔
Enders have a purpose again!
Thanks for the video
Need to use 3mm Plywood for the surface. That way you can cut the circle the same size as the lid. The the lid will set in the cutout perfectly for alignment. That is a good way to make jigs for zipo lighters or anything you want to laser. Just cut that shape out. 3mm basswood is cheaper and easier to cut the birch.
Why are the "C" facing a certain way? If they aren't the way you stated to face, how do you turn the piston?
@@DavidColeman-j8y just rotate it. I think it's for cooling. But the orientation is mentioned in the manual
Can the crank sproket be removed without removing the sump pan ?
@ianwilliams1448 i believe so, I did this install with the engine in the car. So the oil pan was installed. (If that is what you mean by sump pan)
Thanks a lot. Very informative vid. Will do this on my 79 superbeetle cab now:)
So does the vehicle have low oil pressure or just replace switch and who cares. Does this fix just the switch code.
Well, I guess I could have mentioned that you should verify that there is oil in the car, and what not. But to answer your question, YES, replacing this unit does solve the code. I am assuming that if the oil pressure was low, you would not get a code just a warning light.
@AlexPlatacis thanks. I got this code the weekend and I went and got an oil change thinking that would fix it. So I actually need to replace tue scensor also huh? My light is still on.
Just as well you weren't under the vehicle when that cheaper jack stand collapsed, Alex!
really informative! thanks for the teach
Thanks!

Hi Nigel could you explain how to torque the crankshaft pulley bolt so pulley does not move regards
@@robertcrompton7244 is the engine in the car or out?
@robertcrompton7244 if the engine is out, you can retain the flywheel with a vice grip ruclips.net/video/Z3K7pfieM8U/видео.htmlsi=8w8ggeGtv6Q1UnFf
@@AlexPlatacis Hi the engine is in the car regards Bob
Best to put the car in gear, and set the brake. This will keep the engine from turning while you loosen the bolt
@@AlexPlatacis HI is that ok when i am tightening the crankshaft pulley bolt to 70ft lbs
Biggest crock of sh*t I've seen in my life. These things have been designed perfectly for decades and now Hyundai has to reinvent them to work worse and break easier? Yeah OK.
i got a po520 code not a 522 would this be the same type of fix? 2015 jeep cherokee
@samanthalam2000 well, it's similar. Older cars had just 1 wire to the oil sensor. It measured resistance to the engine block. The cherokee has 3 wires one measures resistance the other is a ground, and the third one has a 5volt signal from the ecu. When you get this fault you need to check the oil level, make sure you have good clean oil of the right viscosity. Check the wiring for a short. If all those are good, replace the sensor. So, yeah, it could be the same as the p0522, it's just a different fault(likely the 5 volt circuit)
Glad you were not undervthe car. Thays why i dont yrust the original MGB jack. I bought a scissors jack forveach of my MGBs.
@americanpatriot2422 that is a good idea for a video. "Jack safety" In this case, I was working on my Jeep. I had lifted the car before loosening the lug bolts. The crush occurred while I was using a cheater bar to loosen them. Just a lazy mistake
