Ecto Containment Unit Build - 1:1 Movie Scale (Cabinet Only)
This second iteration of the Ecto Containment Unit is as close to a 1:1 scale version to the original films as I could find. It was commissioned by a father and son Ghostbusting team from Canada. I hope this video not only inspires others to try to DIY their own containment units but I hope I covered enough for this to act as a tutorial on how to build one. I know (2) hours is a lot but this is no small project. So thank you all for watching. I appreciate you all.

THis is great - they all are. IN the middle of a build now but using 1/2 foamboard sheet for a nice light product. Yard display not a permanent placement. Only wood s along the top to mount the lights and two side 2x4 that create the frame set in concrete buckets, again for easy display. The only item I can't find a direct source on is the voltage meter. Suggestions? MAny thanks and thank you too for posting this whole series.
@@RyanSt.Germain an accurate volt meter is very hard to find. When searching eBay look for a “0-100 DC current panel meter”. That’s what I found. Then look for sizing. 3x4” or so.
How much would you charge to build and ship one.
@@GreyGhost2024 To discuss a commission, please email me at info@fischerbuilds.com. I’d be more than happy to discuss pricing and a timeline.
Hey, greetings from Germany, unfortunately our containment unit broke. It fell and broke, unfortunately we no longer have the construction plans with the sizes and measurements for cutting the wood. Can you help us? Do you have the measurements and sizes for cutting the wood and the individual parts? You would be a great help. Greetings from Germany
Oh no! I am so sorry to hear your unit fell. Thankfully, the measurements are all available online and I cover all my cuts in this video. The plans I used are available on GBFans.com or in a Google search for "Ecto Containment Unit plans". An image link is in the description of the cuts from the plywood for the backplate and main unit box. The door and the other wood components are covered in the video. Chapters of the cuts are also listed in the description of the video. That should help a lot.
Any way of adding sounds to this build?
That is a very cool contamit unit😀
I ordered your plans. Love your presentation !!What’s the steel bar/rod spec ? Would a 1in tubular bar suffice? i have a festool Kapex 60 mitre saw. Its height is 3 3/8 inches. So 3 3/8 + 3/4 work top x 2 = 8 1/4 + 1 in rod and 1/2 above and below = 10 1/4 - so centre at 5 1/8. Am I correct? BTW I’m in Ireland 🇮🇪 Regards, Paul
@@PaulMarlmountWoodcrafts Thank you so much! I used a 1” steel pipe. Mine was 36” wide with threaded ends on both. I threaded on termination caps and they work like nuts on the end. It has to go through the side walls of the flip portion and the cross member of each side table. All at 5-1/8 down, in your case, and centered from front to back. 👍🏻
@@FischerBuilds thank you
Looks good, I did a search on here after I was browsing Etsy and saw a .stl file for a 1:1 containment unit and there was a small video with no sound and figured there would be more on here. I remember seeing your old build for your circuit breaker box, I wouldnt want to do something like that, but I am in the process of trying to get a metal building built on some land I have and I was going to wall off one side to create two rooms, was going to build a 1:1 scale working replica of the Containment Unit as a hanging unit. Didnt know it was actually this simple to make one out of plywood though. Might come out cheaper than going with a 3D resin printed version even though the resin version would be considerably lighter. For the lights, paint wise I was thinking about getting Tamiya translucent red and green model spray paint in the can to spray the bulbs if I cant find the right bulbs already in color.
I want……..!
So awesome!
Very awesome
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Great job! Excellent camera work as well! I hope to build one at some point.
"We wanna see the wiring!"
Easiest like and subscribe ever. So impressed
_NICE BUILD_ but... What's on the other side of the wall. Now you either *show me* what is down there, or I come back with a court order.
Great detail on chop saw flip table maths. 👍
Bro, this is awesome!
Love it!
Looking to build one where did you get the meter
nice job man. what type of red paint did you use for the unit itself? enamel?
Nice work! The Easy Sound link states product not available. Any chance you have another link available for the sound board?
The fact that you did this gives me some hope for the fate of the world.
Thanks for the info!
Do you accept questions What is the dimension from bottom of white board to top of whiteboard. I have same exact saw
It was 7”, the side pieces with the hole were 5-1/2” plus 3/4 on each side of white melamine. 7” total. Plus 3-1/2 inches for the deck of the saw. That’s the 10-1/2” I mention. 👍🏻
There are also plans available. Link in description.
The only difference is my pipe is 5/8 and I’m using 1/2 inch. Would that chance much such as a little coming off of 10-1/2
@@markanibas8805 Yes, all the measurements would need to be adjusted to get the flip right. Good luck. 👍🏻
In 2021, It was announced that Jessica and David Oyelowo are producing a revival titled The Return of the Rocketeer. The film will be written by Ed Ricourt in which David Oyelowo may possibly star. The story focuses on a retired Tuskegee Airmen who takes up the Rocketeer mantle.
That’s fantastic. It’s a great character and with todays CG and effects, a live action should be amazing. Tell them to call me for the props. 👍🏻😎
This video has been super helpful. I bought the White Ranger unfinished resin helmet from boochieboy and have never done anything like this before. Your video has been helpful in quelling so of the fear of taking this on. I'm still a little uneasy about the hinge aspect but I'm sure I'll get it figured out. I noticed that it looks like you had to cut a notch out of the helmet to make room for the hinge. Am I right? Any additional tips when dealing with the hinge is helpful.
Nice work
What fitting do yo have coming off of your miter saw?
It’s in the description at the very bottom. The 3D printed part. It uses (2) 2-1/2” hoses on a Y fitting. I recommend looking at Shop Nation’s channel. Travis recently did a series on miter saw dust collection and he is selling them soon. I got my shroud free and printed it myself but this was a few years ago. People have made better ones since.
Looks great, where did you get the mirror from?
Bed Bath and Beyond… “Simply Essential™ 30-Inch x 70-Inch Floor Mirror in Natural”. The actual mirror was about 65” tall. I carefully took the frame off. It was just hot glued and a few staples. No tools needed if you muscle it.
@@FischerBuilds Thank you!
Would you be open to making me one? ❤ so expensive online
Well explained… most clearly explained measurements for the flip top mitre saw station. Well done mate. Any detailed video how you made it
No, I built this when I moved into the house and then posted it social media. Someone asked if I would show more of the bench and how it works so I made the video.
Really great job with the series of videos. I appreciate that you took the time to both include parts and tools lists as well as demonstrate the technique. For those of us that haven't done much of this type of thing, that's very helpful.
Really great job on this project. I think you did a good job balancing the "replica feel" with practicality. The 12VDC system, in particular, is very helpful. Also, your parts list and links are very much appreciated.
Thanks. Glad it helped. You building one?
I’ve had an ECU for a while how easy would it be to add sounds to this wiring setup? Thank you.
“Easy” is relative to coding arduino or paying someone to. Easy for me. No. Easy for an arduino guru. Very likely.
Thank you for sharing your dyi barn door. I am also planning on building barn myself… I have few questions regarding your barn door. What was the dimension of the door? What is the size of the mirror?
That’s amazing wow
Is there a way I can get the buckle model so I can 3d print it my self it looks better then most I have found
Nice! If I am a ghost, I would love to stay there!
I mean yeah it looks great, great work, but you really need the trap slot.. think about it for the future maybe
Thank you!!! I love that is simple and straightforward!!! Nice build!!
Thank you for sharing.
NICE job!
Can you do a tutorial with the kids because I’m a kid then me and my uncle he likes building stuff
Incredible job! Glad it runs off a battery...completely EPA-friendly :)
I want to make a containment unit for the back of my van that is also a cargo box.
Really enjoyed these videos, you've done such a good job. Like that it's made for a purpose rather than being purely a replica.
Best dad ever ! Looking to make my own helmet. Thanks for the vid !
Hey this is great! thanks so much for sharing the details I'd love to use/upgrade some of these details with buttons and wiring like you have done on yours in the future. Looks amazing!
Thank you so much. As I mentioned, I watched others and changed my mechanics. The limit switch idea was inspired by your handle so thank YOU.
Very nice! Now SHUT IT OFF!!!!!
If you shut that off we are not going to be held responsible!
It would be funny if this was a laundry shoot
Light is green, socks are clean.
Great idea! ...now just keep ol' dickless away from it.
