Great tips
very informative and good advise
awesome advice and i am going to start on this, i just followed this page for more content.
Awesome advice. I am always wary of networking connections on LinkedIn etc because it always feels impersonal but this kind of helps make it personal and so you can stand out virtually before actually connecting over a phone or in person. Thank you!
Great n much appreciated its hard to make networking on LinkedIn but your tips makes easy
Thanks. Great advice.
Does niching deep down in our field as engineer to become expert in certain area opens the door to earn the most money ? What are some other best ways to create massive success in corporate world and any top books suggestions about it ??
Great question. There’s no perfect formula. I’ve seen friends lean into specialization and generalization. The opportunity in specialization is obvious but the counterintuitive part is that generalization unlocks specialization. That’s because your skillset can be diverse and unlock new ways of thinking. Though I think there’s no wrong answer, it’s more important to lean into your curiosities than try to optimize for something. And regardless of your expertise or craft be open minded about where it’s applied and try to find uncommon/unconventional ways to apply. That’s the real unlock in value and earning potential. Let me get back to on book suggestions. First thoughts are “Thinking, Fast and Slow” and “Nudge” by Richard Thaler. These books opened up incentives, choice architecture, and the art and science of decision making and fallacies. It’s a mix between psychology and economics. I enjoyed them because as an engineer I want to solve problems, and not all solutions are technology. Hope this is helpful! I’ll think more on it.

Great content man thank you!
Thank you for watching! Hope it was of value!
Great content! Thank you for sharing and for being committed to seeing others find success and happiness. It shows. Well done.
Wow. Thank you for the kind words!
Hello Market, thank you for the great video. I do however, have a question: step 0 is applying online, at what stage of the game/process should I apply? Immediately or after I have spoken to a recruiter or advocate who can help endorse my application?
Great question! Whenever you feel prepared. Sometimes it’s helpful to talk to recruiters or other folks to help you optimize how you pitch yourself in the application. But the balancing act is not belaboring the application such that you never do
I really enjoyed this video. Thank you. I'm just starting my IT journey and I'm looking forward to utilizing your tips.
Thank you!
You’re welcome! And thank you for watching!
This vide is making me cry. Please be strong. They would understand soon that we are all humans.
Very helpful video. I am a student really looking to improve my LinkedIn knowledge. So thank you.
You're very welcome! Thanks for watching
I feel LinkedIn is packed for high management positions and corporate space opportunities. There isn't much opportunities for the technical space...
I found this to be extremely helpful, especially the advice to create content
Great Content. Needed it!
Hi Markell. I really enjoyed this video. Tech Equity Collective with Google has it as content for Rising Innovators to review. I thought that it was not too short or long and something I can implement. Thank you
This was very very helpful for me and thank you so much for the template!
Thanks a lot for these tips, Markell. I love the templates you provided; they get to the point quickly without much of the "psychological hacks" everyone talks about.
Just wanted to say that you’re very handsome 😍 also these tips are helpful. I’m not trying to get into tech but i can definitely still use these tips in my industry too
Very informative. Tanks for sharing.
Depends on your job. For example, I work in the financial services as a project manager and it's hard to create content on projects because it is frowned upon. Everything is highly regulated and I work with teams updating back-end systems so information on the projects are not the kind of thing a bank wants you advertising.
Thanks for this ☺️. I will use this
Great advice, thank you! 👍
Thank you for this video. I'm currently a engineering co-op and college student. So, all of this advice was helpful and beneficial. Do you also mentor students or talk with college students one on one?
Hi Markell, Excellent channel & content! Squarespace, G2, and HubSpot are on my radar. Today I have my sights set on Cisco. Any one of these companies are attractive because they are highly rated at helping others to succeed. I am a non-tech person inspired to pivot to tech because I aspire to inspire others through transparency, mentorship, and curiosity. Do you have a LinkedIn networking recommendation?

Hi Markell, thanks for the effort in providing tips on building a network on Linkedin that will help you get a job. i have been reaching out so far to both recruiters and advocates , and I got one connection as an advocate who replied to me they will pass on my resume to their supervisor. hope it works, it happen 1 week from now. What you are saying is true, is what I am doing and I am happy to watch and listen to this video as it's exactly what I am doing my messages are not short as yours . Keep up
Hey dude so much benefit from this legit thanks man!!!!
Nice video man, Keep doing this.
Thanks for sharing
HELP! I had two connections who used a generic request but I did tell them both why I loved their profiles then informed them about the position I applied for and I asked for details about their experience with the company. I know my message was read but no reply. Should I send a new message? I really want to work for this company and just want an opportunity to showcase my abilities.
Hi Derricka! If I’m gathering your situation right, you requested a connection and shared a message in the request. They read it and added you to their network but no reply. If my understanding is correct, that definitely happens a lot. It could be they didn’t read it or they perceived the question as too much effort to respond to at the time. It doesn’t hurt to follow up at all. I’d bump the message by saying “just wanted to follow up, if you have 5 min to chat or tell me how I can do X” I think you’ll have better odds. If a question is too vague or open ended, I find it hard to give a meaningful response. And often that turns into no response. Let me know what happens!
@@MarkellBaldwin thank I will certainly follow up and I will let you know how it goes I appreciate your advice
Your tips in theory are great. However, I have tried your method(s) prior to viewing your video and it NEVER works. It seems like LinkedIn is only used for people showcasing their accomplishments, but no one is willing to help. I do apologize for sounding negative.
No apologies necessary. I totally hear you and I definitely think there’s a lot of self serving and promotion on LinkedIn. I’ve been thinking of redoing this video with a Twitter lens as I’ve found that to be a more valuable source to connect with people.
I totally agree with you. They just there to show up but nobody is willing to help. I think people in there forgot that somebody gave them a chance too
This is what I have seen. I worked in the medical device industry and everything revolves around documentation. Many of my more senior colleagues have amazing technical talent, but their writing skills are very lacking. I ask them to document their testing and lab work, but the document is often unorganized and full of holes, from an audit perspective. They often forget to add decisive conclusive statements on their findings or even fail to explain why the work is being done. Sometimes I get some impostor syndrome being in a senior role at a young age, but then I see things like this and it kind of levels out the playing field.
Glad this was reassuring! The ability to articulate thought is such an imperative skill. Even in engineering because data doesn’t speak for itself.
What would be a job title(s) for the advocate position that a company might have? I know sometimes recruiters go by different titles so I’m wondering if it might be the same for the advocate role.
Besides recruiters, anyone with the title you want or in the area of interest that is actually engaged online or shows hints at being receptive to cold outreach (content, specifying interests on their profile) works. I try to think of it as an experiment too. You won’t know exactly who but the only way to find out is to reach out. You’ll start to see certain messages that are more receptive or people who tend to respond more frequently.
