I heard this language used by the Ocelotl in For Honor and decided to learn it, thanks for helping me! So many of the resources for this language are in spanish, but if anyone is trying to learn in english, I recommend using the wired nahuatl dictionary (they include references for words, so if something doesn't line up you can see where it came from) and Nāhuatlahtolli from the university of Texas that provides easy daily lessons, hope this helps!

This script was likely used for the nitty, gritty practical stuff. Like you mentioned, taxes, lands, identifying people, etc. More intellectual stuff, stuff that was worth spending ink and for which a higher level of expertise was necessary was expressed via big complicated sets of universally recognized symbols coming together to form a whole, such as we see in the codices (thinking of the Borgia, and the rest of those). Somebody trained in the priestly scribal tradition could very well identify those ideas and read the books like any one of us can read an alphabetical book. Just like latin script is taught in schools, all of that had to be taught as well in elite schools.

Yak’éi Tlingit áyá, yaat’áa TL-ingit chá shoogoo TL in Tlingit as your folks NahuaTL. The TL sound at the beginning of Tlingit, is the same sound as at the end of NahuaTL. Ours folks describe as a voiceless L, pronunciation of the TL I tell people put the tip of your tongue against the back of your teeth, and blow out air and it comes out the sides of your tongue making a good TLingit or if I’m saying it like you. I think so, sounds the same 🤙🏽 good stuff Gunalchéesh 🙌🏽

This is a really good format for your lessons. I hope to see more content like this. I’ve studied Korean, German, and Spanish throughout my life, so I can see Nahuatl being relatively easy to learn with this style of teaching. Also to put the grammar explanation simply 25:20 Nahuatl doesn’t have “definite articles” (The) nor indefinite articles (A/ An). Also there are no auxiliary (helping) verbs (is / are eating, etc). Very similar to Korean or Japanese.

I stumbled onto Mixtec by complete accident. Originally it was a branch of Marindinesech or you could say Marind language which is Papuan. The first inhabitants of the Amerikas was the Papuan: Quechua, Mayan, Guarani, Nahuatl, Aymara, Mixtec, Zapotec, Otomi, and some Amerindian languages. Although Amerindians are branches of Marindians "Papuan" the differences they immigrated to Amerikas in a much later wave about 30,000 and 12,000 years ago. Papuan would be Amerikas and oldest inhbaitants and the worlds oldest in every country👍

the drumming documented in the CANTARES that is demonstrated is being played with a straight 8th note rhythmic feel, but most modern day practitioners play those rhythms with a triplet based rhythmic feel and not a straight 8th note one modern practitioners also play them with sticks and not with hands, and the drums continue to get shorter and shorter there are only 3 images in the Codices of tlapan being played with a stick in one hand and either a rattle or a fan in the other and they are deities playing the drum, not people all the other images show tlapan being played with the hands only by human beings but it is also documented that "They struck them only with their fingers, but it required infinite dexterity in the striker" Fray Javier Clavijero from the HISTORIA ANTIGUA DE MEXICO when asked "how do you know what the music from that era sounded like?" the answer is we don't know, we only have the instruments but no recordings but it should be pointed out that there are also no recordings of instruments being played in the 16th century from Africa, China, Egypt, India, Japan etc. But there are modern day practitioners that continue to play from all of the above. How much has performance practices changed in the last 500 years in those countries? Should be pointed out that you can go to quite a few places in modern-day Mexico and Mesoamerica and EXPERIENCE these instruments being played every day, not for a celebration, or a commemoration but as a matter of fact Have been in 28 countries and 5 continents multiple times since 1990 and have yet to experience any musicians from any of those countries playing 2000 year old instruments every day. Their 2000 year old instruments are locked behind glass cases in museums........... The Mayan Bonampak murals are radio carbon dated to 790 A.D., when did the MEXICA come into the Valley of Mexico,? sometime in the 13th century the MAYA were already playing those instruments for 500 years Hernan Cortes landed in Mexico in 1519, 505 years ago How much has changed between 790 A.D., to the present in regards to the instruments and how they are currently played? China and Japan have music notation that goes further back than the 16th century while Africa, India and MesoAmerica do not. and the first treatise about MUSIC that we have was written in India over 2,000 years ago but without notation. The way music on any instrument is taught in India is that the musician needs to be able to sing the composition from beginning to end before they attempt to play it on their instrument of choice. A piece of music can be 3 minutes to 3 hours long and there are many who continue to play this music, through the ORAL/AURAL TRADITION this is also well documented in the MesoAmerican traditions e.g., the TELPOCHCALLI - THE HOUSE OF YOUTH the CALMECAC - THE HOUSE OF LINEAGE the CUICACALLI - THE HOUSE OF SONG & DANCE The biggest difference between those other continents is that MesoAmerica had 90% of their population decimated within the 1st 400 years of Europeans invading their home lands. and yet........... the culture, the history, the instruments the people continue albeit in a different form a TRADITION is always in flux TRADITION is not static what continues is a multi-faceted world where a world in each facet all we have to do is stop to look to investigate to appreciate to acknowledge........
