For the 10 minutes it takes each week, meal planning has the biggest payoff in terms of keeping our kitchen organised, our routines peaceful, and our food budget down. The meal planning system we’ve come to love isn’t jus...

Is DIME worth trying? What’s confused me, UK vs. US Price Comps & Unpaid Review!

Is DIME worth trying? What’s confused me, UK vs. US Price Comps & Unpaid Review!
I found your page in 2024 looking for someone cooking organically and love your ethos and hearing about your life. Thank you for sharing. Also feeling inspired to try sewing, found two old sewing machines in my loft so need to get on it!
Do you know real life users in the US? It says there’s no web app or iPad function which would be a hard swap. I can’t see yet if the kids accounts are US available yet. Keeping an eye on this!
Which ethical children's clothes do you choose to buy from for your oldest? I'm finding lots of brands for smaller kids.
Would you be wiling to share your hair color source? I’m obsessed! 😍
Just my natural colour with greys shining through more or less depending on the day 😂
I work in a charity shop - ladies clothing is by far our biggest seller - Mens clothing sales would be better but the donations are low. People shop for a number of reasons - ethical - financial. Really enjoyed your video ..
I meal planned your way tonight, usually I just plan the dinners and what we're out of. I'm curious to see if the food shopping bill will be less.
I enjoyed this video because I did a whole second hand year in 2020 - everything, not just clothing, even gifts - and it was so easy. Mainly I guess because of over consumption. Someone is always getting rid of perfectly good items I can use. Since then, 95% of purchases have been second hand. Like you, I am trying to source quality - not plastic - clothing items going forward and purchasing from ethical brands in good fabrics when I do buy new.
Totally agree I love all the features of it. All my children use monzo but they are grown up. Keeps us on track. However I must point out if you use the app you must go into the settings straight away and do your security settings. If you don't it is not secure. Do this and it is amazing. So user friendly and ethical too
Yes putting “Face ID required” etc on banking apps is a great idea! Love that you all use it. ❤️
Truffles?
That’s a great idea!
@ I made some yesterday with ingredients I had at home. It was 2/3 cup almonds, 30 dates pitted, 2tbs cocoa, 1/2 cup coconut flakes and 1tbs coconut oil.
Thank you, love your videos. I'm going to make the leek and potato soup.
I always wonder how it can taste so good but it does!
How about salted caramel pavlova ?
Sorry, Salted caramelised "apple" pavlova !
Ok that sounds amazing! Love that idea!
I’m not good at meal planning AT ALL! This has been the most helpful video I’ve watched on it I think. Gonna try it and see how it goes!
I'm so happy! Everyone needs something different but I think the basis is the same - did you find the meal planning template download? It's in the blog post linked if it helps!
Oh I didn’t see that but I will check it out!
I messaged my family today and told them this is how we are gifting this year and would love them to do the same. Either secondhand or experiences. So far well received. The most difficult person to please has a birthday in Jan so at least I’ll get the hardest done with first.
I love that! Well done, this is the time of year to do it! 👏
Have been wondering this for a while: do you use butter (or coconut oil) instead of olive oil for budget reasons or health related or just flavour? I’ve always been lead to believe that olive oil is the healthiest, but the prices have gone through the roof recently and there’s so much conflicting information out there on seed oils that I don’t know what to opt for… I also have coronary heart disease in the family so saturated fats scare me to a degree 😅
I so hear you - nutrition information can all be so different! Personally I've never liked olive oil (I drank from a bottle of it by mistake as a kid and now it makes me gag!!) so that combined with the smoke point being lower means I just don't really work it in to how I cook. I mostly use butter because it's the most local thing I can use that I also like, and then I keep coconut oil for frying and for when I'm making something dairy free if people need that. I tried a local unrefined rapeseed oil but that taste came through in all the cooking and I just cannot do it!
Happy New Year! I really enjoyed watching you in 2024 and I look forward to watching in 2025.
Thanks for being here! Glad your enjoyed it so far - I’m still learning this platform but I’m loving it! ❤️
Excited for another year of journeying with you! And I was never bothered by you talking with your hands, just keep being you!
Haha thank you! People are opinionated on the hands apparently but honestly I don’t think I can stop so they’re here to stay 😂
Love it!!
Thank you! ❤️
Id love to move to Europe from the US for the next 4 years.😅
Let’s just say there are parts I do not miss 😅. I hear you. ❤️
This is my 6 year old’s sons desire!!! However he was blessed with a mom who doesn’t understand their gifted sewing machine (or tagalong books) by any means. 😅 but seeing this keeps me determined to figure it out with him.
This! 👌🏼👌🏼 I’ve been making as many of my own clothes as possible for a while now, and thrifting the others… I genuinely have had to re-think my style and not always found it easy if im honest. But the human cost to fast fashion cannot be ignored anymore. My kids watch how long it takes me to make clothes and can see that if they can buy a £5 pair of jeans from a high street store, then someone isn’t getting paid properly to make them.
The human and environmental cost - yes! I love that you’re doing that and that your kids are seeing it. How do they respond in buying their own clothes?
A little reluctant to think about it when they buy clothes (they are all teenagers) But I showed them some video documentaries of workhouses etc and also discovered Vinted with them, which is a definite step-up.
you should do things for yourself not social media
100%. Did this for me which is why there are no videos of the process! I didn’t want to document it - it was my fun project offline during the holidays! I also want to show a different way of life cos I think it’s desperately important - and that’s why I’m not sharing the finished project here. ❤️
@thewholehome when social media came around I thought 'this is great I can share my creations' but then I feel that I no longer created things for me to enjoy, I created for others to enjoy. and if I don't get approval and praise I got dishartand, it's a vicious cycle. this ultimately led me to quit social media and live for 'me' .wtf am I even yapping this much for, ignore me.
Watching this as I am ordering my weekly food shop. Recently found your channel and so happy I did. Quick question have you always lived in England or did you live here then move to America and then come back? I found your channel and thought your accent was Australian at first ha!
I hope it helped the weekly shop! We did live in California for 12 years and it comes out in my accent sometimes as Australian! 😜
@ ha! It did I forgot about breakfast dinners and how good they can be. Also we do a pizza night one night per week think it’s my girls fav meal of the week as she likes to help roll the dough etc and pick the toppings!
I really struggle to think of meals! My son is fussy and I find I cook the same things so I almost don’t need a meal plan 😫
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that if it’s working for you!
Exactly! His palate will grow as he does.
Omg, the ballet outfit story had me actually cheering at the phone! It's sad how normalised ultra fast fashion has become. Well done for challenging it and WHAT A SCORE! 🎉
Thank you! I was SO happy to find 4 matching dresses it felt like such a win cos I didn’t really want to make them 😂. Then two of the sellers never shipped them so I had to RE-FIND two matching dresses but I managed again! Haha I was so happy!
@thewholehome I definitely believe in second hand karma - someone was looking out for you 😉😁
Another great video, keep them coming. Thank you
Thank you for tuning it! I will do! ❤️
The jacket is awesome! About 10 years ago I made a rag quilt out of flannel sheets that were not holding up well. It turned out great, but it was so heavy by the time it was done, I struggled to use it, so I donated it. I like to think maybe someone else discovered it and loved it, maybe even still using it.
I love that you got to give it away though! I’m sure it’s being loved by someone!
I do not need to buy no clothes from anywhere...I do not need free clothes...
I’m not sure I understand but thanks for watching! Free clothes is not the ultimate goal - but hand me downs and passing on what we’re done with is an amazing way to be more sustainable in the way we consume clothing. So it’s less about needing free, and more about the world really needing a more sustainable approach to the clothing industry. If that means sharing and passing on things without charging friends, then that’s amazing.
I do not need hand me downs or anything...I have so much
Great stuff. And thrifting for an AirBnB makes complete sense because you just don't know how people are going to care for this stuff.
Such a good point!
Love that this video popped up on my feed! I've just started a year long challenge of buying nothing new - the underwear question was definitely one of the ones I had too, good to know there are options :D Thanks so much for sharing your journey!
I love that they’re starting a buy nothing new year! We’ve LOVED it in so many ways. The underwear question is a big one haha! One other commenter just said they make their own from old tank tops etc. which I thought was clever. I think it still requires elastic but it’s a good idea!
@thewholehome ooooh, I like that idea! Might look more into it later in the year 😁
The best clothes to thrift are in Charity or Opshops as we call them here in Australia is clothes that a decade or 2 old. Vintage, some forever pieces. Brands made in Australia of top quality brands, some who now do not exist. Online isn't the same as looking, feeling, does it speak to me and trying on. I look for natural fibres and good quality, brand name, not so much. The point is you don't need to buy new and you keeping clothes out of landfill. I also sew, fabulous for altering or making a new garment out of great fabric. I only brought one new top this year and it didn't wash up well. Huge regret. And a pack of socks. Undies I will be sewing soon out of old tanktops I never wear. Bras will be the only thing I will be buying new this year. Secondhand everything is so much better than new, better for the enviroment and I will not support 'fast fashion' companies with horrific labour practices.
I so agree on feeling items being so much better! I find jeans work online when I know the style and size for a particular brand but otherwise yes I’d rather the charity shop. And I need to try making my own undies! Why have I never thought to do that?!?! That’s brilliant!
@thewholehome I remember years ago people were making them and I thought it was cheap. Not now, I follow a few on RUclips who have used their leftovers stretch jerseys etc or upcycled their sons too small tshirts. A lot of underwear is rubbish now, so thin, not sewn well (who wants to repair underwear) or the elastic is crap, so I've decided I'll be making some soon. And I have plenty of elastic. Going secondhand is easy, buying new has also become a waste of time and money. Great talk by the way.
I loved this video! I have been following for a few months now, trying your sourdough routine (and failing so re-adjusting slightly), loved hearing about flexi-schooling (btw you are very lucky your school even suggested it and agreed! Lots of families would love that option but sadly their school will not agree. We are still trying to figure out if it’s for us or not). I haven’t been following the trad wives ‘drama’ but it’s interesting! I am a SAHM with a Saturday job and I like it however the plan is for me to work more when both of my children are at school. I would quite happily stay home if we could afford it financially. Saying that I am immensely grateful that there is a choice and if it makes sense for a family for the wife/mum to stay at home and she likes it then why not. It goes the other way too, if a mum wants to work full time because she loves her job, go and do it, amazing, if you can’t afford to stay at home but have to work than that’s the sad part when I feel there isn’t much choice. Love your content, love your sourdough and sewing in a non trad-wife way and just love hearing about your normal family life and meals and things you do. Happy and Healthy 2025!
Ah I’m sorry the sourdough isn’t working right yet! Keep trying and let me know anything I can help troubleshoot. And I so hear all those SAHM thoughts, I love that you get to do what you want - that’s the dream isn’t it! I think SAHM is different from trad wife, and in a sense neither are wrong if they’re truly what someone wants. I think I see the “trad” movement as moving the decisions making, financial, and other powers away from the woman and putting it more on men which is a part of it I struggle with! Then there’s the whole influencer trad side of it which is another ball game all together as people portray, encourage and celebrate a life they don’t actually live as by nature being an influencer is a job with the power to bring financial independence. Big topic 😜 I’m going to dive in more!
I love your sweater! I wish I could find something like that second hand 😮
Thank you! This actually took a surprising amount of searching out cos I refused to spend more than £10 and I wanted wool! 😜
I love that you're on RUclips and the content is longer. I've started a low buy year on 10 areas of my life including clothes and you inspired me to see how far into the year I can manage instead of my initial plan to just do January as I did once before. So thank you, you're making a difference! (But I'm buying my underwear new if I need any!) I'd love to see a video on what sustainable make up and skincare you buy now so that I can have suggestions for when mine needs replacing.
I love that you’re doing a low buy year! And I love that you’re inspired to see how far into the year you can go. 👏👏👏
In terms of skincare and makeup, I don’t know where you are in the world but I’m a bit useless on makeup cos I use it slowly and I have bits from a brand that’s shut now. But in the UK PHB ethical beauty has been my top choice so far. Google where they’re sold cos they’re a little hard to get hold of sometimes. But worth it in my experience. Skincare wise in the UK Evolve Organic Beauty is my top choice. They work really well and are one of the most truly sustainable brands I know! (Also female founded and a high rating B Corp.) Sometimes I get stuff direct from them, sometimes I search unopened bits on Vinted! Here’s the link for them if you want it (aff link) tidd.ly/3JAlsYN Not to say they’re the only one - but after a deep look at the brands here when we moved, they came out top top. There’s also a blog of my top bits from them on thewholehome.co.uk.
@thewholehome thank you.
@@pauline9933 you’re so welcome! Good luck on the low buy!
It is so funny (about matching ballet T-shirts). I feel like I would be more influenced to buy, especially if the kid wants to, to not be left out, so I might be persuaded more easily. But if I would say no, and it would be ordered for me, I would never pay for it and take it, you do not spend my money without my agreement! 😅
It’s so hard to know when to join in, and when to stand my ground but there are some lines I won’t cross and that’s one! But yeah I was a bit taken aback that it was purchased after our conversation on NOT having it. I appreciate the discipline of ballet but there are some things about the culture that in my opinion really need to change!
I think you’re one of my favourite people on RUclips. Bless you in all you aspire to do.
Ah thanks so much! It’s been fun posting here that last year and I’m looking forward to another! Have a great Monday! ❤️
Oh, use your hands! Everyone uses their hands to speak , it would look odd if you didn’t!🤭 I am learning so much from you! Keep doing you!❤
Love your videos. I'm checking into ducks. Would enjoy the actual process and how they live. Really anything you post is great. Move your hands all you want.
Maybe a day in the life of a duck here then! We do love them - highly recommend them as an addition if you’re considering it!
Your channel became one of my faves in 2024. Absolutely love what you’re doing in this space. Looking forward to all that’s to come!
Oh you are the kindest - I’m so glad it’s been a space you’ve enjoyed. It’s easy to doubt the impact of anything we do but anytime I see another Shein haul or a life of overconsumption glorified I think it’s time to make another video!
Interesting talk, I love your honesty. Simple is good. Also jacket is fab
Honesty is all I have the energy for 😂. And yeah there’s a pressure with the new year sometimes, but it’s just continuing the small steps and celebrating the little changes on the journey this year for us!
I love your videos- we are making some big changes in our family life and I’ve been very inspired by your content. I too have SO many thoughts on Ballerina Farms, but I’ll die on the hill that she is NOT a stay at home mom. She is a work from home mom, with a TON of help and resources, who runs multiple businesses and performs on the internet that she is a stay at home mom. I think we need to open up the conversation that most people really aren’t a stereotype, but that in order to fit in on the internet & niche down society at large now refuses to recognize that everyone (particularly women) can be many things and don’t need to fit into a box (I’m referring to everyday women here, not performative influencers).
Yes! I 100% agree and this is one of my big commentaries on her! People are looking at her and their takeaways are what life as a stay at home mum could/should look like. In reality she’s an heiress running an empire with a ton of help. (E.g. She “homeschools” but with a full time teacher employed!) She seems to not be hiding a lot of these realities, but people see a simple stay at home mum and homesteader. When she’s running a huge farm with likely no budget boundaries and a lot of staff. 🫠 We need to be able to see it all like you said - people can be many things and the boxes need to go. “Stay at home mum” has a thousand different iterations! And I’m so glad that I can be a tiny inspiration as you make changes in your life! ❤️❤️
I would love to see videos on your wardrobe/closet. Or any house organization with kids! I am about to have our first baby and feeling very overwhelmed. lol ❤
Hi! Oh I’m so sorry you’re feeling overwhelmed - but I get it. On my wardrobe, honestly it’s so simple, I don’t have a ton of clothes and I have a rail of clothes and some more folded on a shelf. In terms of house organising - I think keeping it simple is the biggest tip I can give. Babies really don’t need much at all. We bypassed a lot of the “stuff” that people recommend. I had a crib, carrier, and car seat/stroller combo and not much more. I didn’t do a change table or play gyms or anything like that. Then nappies/diapers and not too many clothes. We kept it really simple and it takes a lot of the stress out of it for me - cos there’s less to keep track of and organise. If you do find you really need other stuff, you can pick it up along the way but babies really do need very little. ❤️ Then there’s just not very much to organise, especially early on. But for what there is - developing systems and routines really helped me, like meal planning and laundry routines so it’s all pre planned and those things aren’t adding to the mental load. But I’ll try and put together some kind of video! All the best as you get closer to welcome your babe!
Ooo! I love this move! 😍 I stayed away from WhatsApp over the last two weeks and it was WONDERFUL. Some things got missed, some people phoned to get the answers they had wanted, and it was all absolutely fine 😊 Deleted Insta, FB and TwiX long ago, never used TikTok, Snapchat or any other SM apps, other than RUclips, and I enjoy learning from long form videos so much 😃 Sewing is fab, I feel like it’s been a new-found superpower that I’ve discovered later in life. I’m also enjoying clay, papier maché, and about to start trying Silver clay - a podcast-y video to keep me company is so enjoyable 😊 Wave your hands all you like, and looking forward to what you’ll be bringing in the coming year! 🎉
Fewer apps is always a wonderful, lower cortisol move right?! 😅 I haven’t downloaded Instagram again (the only other one I do) but I will this week as the kids go back - I do value getting to share there, it’s just a mixed bag too. And yes to sewing - with the level of destruction that the textile and clothing industries bring, we need to all have at least a level of sewing skill to help us slow our consumption! What are you working on at the moment?!
@ I got AGONISINGLY close to finishing a quilt for my niece’s 1st christmas, so that’s one WIP still on my sewing table. I also have the materials I want to use to make some bags for cosmetics/packing cubes/etc. I made air-dry clay hanging decorations as Christmas presents for everyone. And I got some silver clay for Christmas as a gift, and I plan to make some jewellery based on my daughter’s wonderful drawings with it. If I get on ok, I have other sentimental jewellery pieces I’d also like to make, but we’ll see! And finally, we bought a jacket for my daughter that she and I are going to use as the basis of a craft/sewing project over the coming year, which I’m really looking forward to. She has it all designed, so next steps will be getting the scrap fabrics and materials all gathered 😊 Looking forward to hearing about your own upcoming creative adventures!
I’m so impressed! I’m going to do another quilted jacket but one from an actual quilt - I’m figuring out what I want different from the one I have just made style wise. I’m wanting a bold and modern quilt design and a more boxy jacket. We’ll see! But I’m thinking I should try some more simple little quilter bag or something first cos I’ve never done any actual quilting.
I have sewn my whole life and I can say Well done
Thank you so much! It felt like such an achievement to figure it out and finish it!
Please use your hands All you want. I am learning so much from you! I, 66 and I find your lifestyle refreshing. AND I USE THE WORD STYLE because I love style but not trends.
Hahah thank you! I’ve had a lot of feedback on it so I’m trying but I do just talk with my hands 😂 And I’m so glad you’re learning! Thanks for the feedback!
If people can't cope with background noise/someone's accent/movements then they should just not watch imo. You shouldn't change yourself just to appease a troll.
@ no I totally hear you! I do know I talk with my hands a lot 😂 but I agree - I probably won’t end up changing anything!
