How do subscribe, there is no subscribe button but I have set the bell icon. Thank you for the video. I struggle with the right settings on my machine. I find cottons ok but other fabrics have me pulling my hair out.
Tap on the little sewing machine its blue. It'll take you to his page. There you can subscribe and watch previous videos.
I’ve been researching the best serger to get for beginners and the Brother 1034D is the one I’m favoring so far. Thank you so much for sharing this video. Very informative and appreciated.👍👍
Thank you so much was a real help
Omg where have you been for the last few years that I needed you 😂 I’m so grateful to have found your video and now I just hemmed some knits and they look so beautiful. I’m trying your serger method next time to see if I like that result better. The twin needle looks so nice tho
Thank you!
The best tutorial about hemming! Thanks!
Thank you!
Thank you for the tips, for sure. I would have liked to "like" the video, except, #1: the video itself is a little too fast, #2: the narrating is also fast; #3: the music is simply too loud and competing with your voice. Now, I know I can slow down the speed myself - so I have a solution there... but lowering the volume prevents hearing your instructions. However, I will work with it for now by pausing and restarting. Thank you again.
Sorry you find the music a bit overwhelming! I will work to mute the music track a bit more in upcoming videos. The video does have an English-language subtitle track that tracks the spoken word near 100%; perhaps that would be a solution for you?
Do you recommend this machine?
That's a very interesting question. It's a capable dedicated coverstitch machine that's available at a very good price compared to other machines on the market, though it doesn't have as many stitches as the higher-priced models. I'm very satisfied with the quality of the stitching it can make. Where it is really lacking (and is the reason I made this video in the first place) is user-friendliness. On the plus side it's very easy to thread, especially compared to most sergers. But it's very difficult to manage the threads getting your project in and out of the machine, and you can damage your project if you are not careful. I had to consult online tutorials to learn the right way to do this (the official manual is not helpful) and those tutorials are themselves a bit complicated. If you're looking for a good basic coverstitch machine and you're willing to deal with the procedures I cover in this video, then yes, go for it. If you're not mechanically/technically inclined, I'd say look elsewhere.
Very nice! Thanks for the tips. 💖😄

How to hem short band
I'm sorry, I don't follow. Could you give a few more details?
The most straight and clear tutorial in RUclips.
Hi I love 💕 all your recipes because I 💕 vegetables…. Thank you 🙏
Awesome teacher!!
Thank you!
dope thanks
I apologize for this complaint. Your voice and descriptions are perfect. Unfortunately, your hands are often in the way of seeing what you are doing.
Thank you for the feedback - it can be a challenge doing this for the camera, since I have to do what the machine wants me to do, often with the camera right where my hands are supposed to be!
Hi. I would like to know that was a sleeve you were doing.? is that the same way you would do a crouch, lengthening and shorting? Or is it difference when you length and shortening a crotch length?
Yes, the example in the video is a sleeve, from a hooded sweatshirt. To lengthen the rise of a pant, look for a lengthen/shorten line on the pattern midway between the waistline and the crotch point. If the pattern doesn't have one, pick a point midway between waistline and crotch point that interferes as little as possible with other features such as zippers and pocket openings. Don't forget to lengthen both the front and back pieces!
Purchased a Bernina L890 serger a year ago, felt totally intimidated, and have been searching for a video such as this since then. This is most helpful! THANKS!
amazing
What an excellent presentation! Clear, concisely filmed ans explained! Thank you. ❤
Hands down, compared to those of other sewists on RUclips, your instructions are the most thorough. Thank you so much.
Thank you - that's what I'm aiming for.

Coverstitch machines are insanely expensive here for a single-function machine
Can you find one for less on the used marketplace? In my in-person serger classes, people ask me if I will teach coverstitch, so in my opinion no video on hemming with the serger is complete without it. But in this video I also wanted to show that even if all you have is a basic serger, you still have alternatives. (Most of the demos in this video were done on the Brother 1034D, an entry-level serger).
@LineOfSelvage no, no second hand options because i live in a remote area. Coverstitch are generally only owned by folks who do commercial sewing. They sell for $1800-3500 here. Thanks, Ive used an overlocker for 25 years and know the options
Omg…thank you! This is so to the point and easy to follow….now to see if my serger has cover stitch capability…🤣
Thank you! Hoping your serger has coverstitch!
I think you just saved me a lot of headache! Thank you! I like your tutorials a lot. I'm interested how you have your sewing/cutting area set up. I'm just about to organize mine so I need examples of efficient way to go about it and internet seems more prone to show up pretty decorated sewing rooms. I hope/think you have a more practical approach :)
Thank you! My studio space occupies a long but narrow portion of my home garage. There's a photo of it on my Instagram, if you're interested (@lineofselvage). The space is not photogenic at all, and when filming I try to arrange the camera angles to show as little of it as possible! But in short there's a small table just for the sewing machine, where I swap in whatever machine I'm using at the moment, a folding cutting table that is usually two-thirds open, but I can wheel it out to open all the way when necessary, and finally an industrial sewing machine with its associated worktable. Nearby I also set up a folding table just to hold things while I work, and there are IKEA pegboards on the walls to hold tools such as scissors and rulers. In another corner of the garage is the ironing station, with ironing board along with a gravity-feed iron. It gets VERY crowded during filming with the video tripods and extra lighting equipment! The cutting table has a mount arm with a GoPro situated over the cutting surface, that I used to produce the time-lapse assembly sequence you see in this video.
Şok very very thanks👏💐 Türkiye den selamlar anlatımınz öğretmeniz harika bizi bilgilendirmeye devam edin kanalınızın büyümesi temennisiyle💐dil seçeneklerinin çokluğu mükemmel bravo 💐🤚
Thank you! In terms of the language options, I do offer Italian language for subtitles, with some proofreading help from an Italian friend who also subscribes to the channel. Other languages are auto-translations from RUclips.
How about how to hem on a smooth fleece zippered jacket at the arms that was ready made. Can it still be done?? The sleeves are too long on me.
You mean there's a zippered vent at the sleeve opening? Answer is likely yes, but it would involve a bit of surgery to shorten the zippers, and to rehem/refinish the sleeve with that zipper almost certainly cannot be done with a serger.
I didn't know you could do that with a surger. Thanks ❤
maybe the best video I have seen for knits...
Thank you very much!
Omg thanks a very good video. I have been looking for a video like this for a very long time thanks
Glad you liked it!
Most thorough and beginner friendly I have seen! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Hmm I knew about this stitch since I first got my serger a looooong time ago.
thank you for watching!
I’ve known about it since I got my first serger over 30 years ago. Why don’t you title this “The Serger Stitch Everyone Should Be Reminded Of.”
Anything that helps serger owners better understand their creative options is a good thing!
Best video! Explanation is so detailed, thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks 🙏🏼
You're welcome!
I have a Juki serger. I use the flat lock stitch occasionally to provide an accent on pillow cases between the cuff and body. I’ve had success with using two threads in one needle. It makes the “ladders” nice and thick when the stitch length is fairly short. I’ve used identical colors, similar colors, and even different colors to give a variegated effect. I typically use a wide flat lock for such an application.
I learned to do that with a regular zigzag stitch, forty years ago.
There's very little you can do on a serger that you can't do with a conventional machine, but in this case the flatlock will give you a cleaner and more professional-looking result.
Thank you! Yes, to undo the stitch I cut the looper thread in the video, but you can also cut the needle thread instead.
