The giveaway was a brief ‘squeal’ sound from it after startup though which yours doesn’t seem to do. Could be another option if problems return though - was about £400

Sounds like you need new spark plugs and coil packs buddy.

Very slow crank. Mine didn’t sound that bad but I replaced the starter. It was time and now it starts very fast and sounds perfect (06 base Boxster)

Probably didn't need to get the whole terminal out - just a good rub with sandpaper while in situ would have done the job as well. But good to know - my car is almost identical to yours (silver S, 2005) and mine has always sounded like yours does after your fix - a very lethargic turnover, although it has never yet not started.

The electronic bonnet release has to be one of the biggest design flaws in car design. I've got the same booster pack (got it from my partners dad) and it's had to save me a handful of times and I've only had the car since July, but anytime I work on the car it just drains the battery. I've never had this issue, but my starter is on the way out. And you were correct, I already had a comment about cleaning the leaves typed out but I held off until the end hoping you'd clean it 😄

I feel like the starter turns much slower than mine, even after the fix... Could you battery be on its way out as well, maybe because of all the jumping / 0v it experienced lately?

You are right, it’s not normal. Mine always burst into life all year round cold or hot. Respect to you doing these jobs, I wouldn’t have a clue

Just a note. There are 4 drains holes in the battery compartment. 2 under the spoiler and 2 under the hood (where the wing and rear quarter meet) . Thanks for the trick fixing the elastic. Hobby craft Botley Rd it is, then back to OX18 !!😂

I bought a 987.2 pdk in July. Its fantastic. Keep an eye out, its in Carrera white. I noticed you drove through Alvescot which is 1½ miles from me! Two weeks ago a mate who lives a few doors away took me out in his GT3 down the road from Alvescot to Kencot. I thought i was gonna die!! 😂 One thing i would say is people do look at the car. I reckon silver doesn't do a Boxster justice in my opinion.

Hoover the area around the front and rear (convertible) drains every few months. This reminds you to check for rodents or ants living in the battery box. Hoover the front radiators too.

I bought my 987 S, 2005 for £8,500. Yes, I'd obviously prefer something newer that I wouldn't have to keep fixing but the cheapest 981 is about £20k - that's £12k of cash saved for very similar performance and feel. Also, I'm far less worried about my cheap Boxster because I won't be hugely out of pocket if something terminal happens to it. This is the eternal issue for non-millionaires :-)

Those service prices don't include VAT. I would say keep to the manufacturer service schedule but with an annual oil & filter change.

Wow, that's very interesting you broke it down as monthly costs. So from an American perspective costs so far for 2024 on my 2006 CS : Oil changes are about 85 bucks for the kit every 6 months, i do the work, Tires new set of Michelin Pilot 4 S $1350, Registration- $326, smog check is every other year, i think that's 80 bucks. Insurance pretty cheap i think its maybe $800. i bought front and back brake kits i'll be changing soon, $425 each. It's not cheap like my Camry but its hella fun to drive! Thank you for the very cool and informative video!

Great vid as always, Will. I found it very interesting comparing costs in the UK compared to Australia. Due to luxury car import tax, my 06 Boxster S will set you back about $55,000 AU down under (a shade over 20k English pounds). Agreed value insurance around $100AU per month. The rest is very comparable. I don't use mine as a daily drive so I would expect my Michelin PS4's ($2000AU a set) to last me three years or so. I haven't had to tackle the brakes yet. I would estimate since purchase, including two services and a replacement temp sensor (so far, its only fault) that my baby is setting me back about $300AU a month. Small price to pay imho🙂

Think we saw your Booster when I was with my 7yo going back to my 987 Cayman S. You're going to be delighted when you do your service and your fuel economy goes up. 20mpg is what I was getting before I did my service. Oil and air filter make a difference. Sounds like we're both wrenching on our cars. Enjoy!

Hi will, I’ve had my 06 987.1cayman for 3 months and absolutely love it but …………… took it to maundrells because of a noise from the engine area ………they did a full vehicle health check and found that all coils were badly cracked ( deffo over three months ago it would have happened !!) and there is a noise from the water pump which needs further investigation and a leak from the a/c pipes at the rear of the car !!!!!!!! Maundrells said they would have never sold the car in that state !!! Going to ring the specialist that sold me the car to see what they say if it’s a tough sh#t from them I have a warranty to fall back on !! So just a quick heads up for any future buyers Get a really good inspection done before parting with your hard earned dosh. Love your vids by the way mate

If you think it is going to be easy doing a suspension overall check out 'It's Joel's Vlog "Suspension overall on my Boxster 986S", even a Porsche specialist struggled with ceased bolts. Stick to Boxster's, it is great content.

Nice useful video I have a battery charger but leave it in the boot. Didn’t think about I can’t open the boot.

The drainage thing is a common problem on all modern day Porches hardtop and cabriolets Also I wouldn’t recommend a cheap obd 2 scanner you would be better off to buy one that gives you the ability to reset service intervals and program certain electronics including the battery. If you are not planning to drive the car for a long periods you just disconnect the battery cables and don’t close the hood just leave the front hood slightly closed not fully closed if you are concerned about battery life even after you have disconnected the battery start your car once a week and keep it running for at least 20 minutes or drive it to your local grocery store also to keep engine oil in all the right areas to prevent bore scoring.

It is a labor of love. I have a MY2003 Boxster S. I have spent what it is worth again on parts and updates. If you want the car to be perfect, there is a cost of ownership.

For gods sake, wear some form of eye protection and a face mask. Trust me, you really do not want to inhale plastic dust or get even the tiniest spec in your eye…

In the US 981 S manuals are roughly 2x the price of 987.1 S manuals, so totally different price points.

Too late now but I would have explored redress from the seller. I’m not sure that ‘sold as seen’ removes the legal obligations of a trader under the consumer rights act. If it was sold with a known and declared problem then that’s fair but, if it isn’t fit for purpose (as a car!) after 4 days then I think they may have been responsible for a disastrous pre existing issue like this. If anyone else is in this position then I’d advise them to at least look into it before paying themselves. Be fair to traders for sure - I’ve seen some stories of really unreasonable buyers expecting a 10 year old car to be brand new - but make sure your rights are respected.

I've got the same booster jump pack and it's saved me after shutting the bonnet with a disconnected battery, and when the battery died. Something to note (note sure if it's specific to that jumper pack), but it didn't like me having it on the red fuse and the ground point, so I had to use the manual override button on it.
