Worked the and learned to fly in the late 1970s. We had two Chimpunks and a bunch of PA28-140s, 180, Arrow, Apache and Aztec. It was owned by Maurice Looker, ex RAF before the current owners. It was inside the London CTR at that time and we had a height restricted 'freelane' so we could get out of the control zone west to Twyford with a circuit height of 800ft agl. Glad to see you are now just outside Heathrow's airspace.

Just stumbled upon this nugget (better late than never) and thought it was a fantastic conversation. Huge CCasual fan. I keep my 1981 Beech Baron at KFRG on Long Island and totally agree with what Steve was saying about his Aerostar and how piston engine aircraft need to fly and not sit. Heard he sold the Aerostar since this aired. Tailwinds. Andy

For those interested the Irving Beak referred to by Mark at 19.53 is a fairing that extended the full length of the rudder and protrudes into the tail fin. Its movement inside the fin creates venturi effects to assist movement of the rudder against high air loads.

39:15 What a goof….painting “airline pilots” with a broad brush. He obviously doesn’t realize the jobs that many of us have done to get to the major level, to include flying crap equipment overseas. Typical thing, probably sour grapes….

I started being interested in learning about planes when lockdown started and i was in 3rd year of high school studying for exams to get into university. If you know Greece system you know how hard this year is and now covid hit in the middle of it. I fell on aviation youtube. One of the first youtubers i followed was Peter mentour pilot and within less than a year i was over my fear of planes and flying. Without knowing it i was following more and more aviators and becoming an avgeek. Found Jerry through Juan Browne through his 2 lives " a man watching a man watching airplanes" years after the lives took place😂. Went to my first ga event in a close to me grass strip ga airport and i loved it. I flew as well. That was a feeling i will never forget.

I’m typed in a jet that allows AT during OEI and the 737 which doesn’t. I found I used ATs more as a new jet pilot and then less and less as I got more jet time. To the point now I prefer to leave them off. They were a crutch initially, but I found myself playing catch up with rudder trim and it turned into a bad cycle. With comfort and experience, I can leave power settings largely unchanged (thus reducing rudder trim changes) and manage speed and coordination better with only flap inputs.

An excellent video. One thing you didn't comment on, was safes in hotel rooms. Do you use them? I have travelled a lot , mostly around Europe and have never had any problems. One has to be aware of their surroundings, especially when out and about. That was the case when I was in Frankfurt, as the area around Frankfurt Station was frequented by beggars and rough sleeper, but the area was well policed and I was never approached by any of these people. It's just a case of be sensible and don't take any unnecessary risks.

Good video save for two technical errors. (1) The "variable camber flaps " (VCC) shown at the leading edge of the wing are not actually the Kruger flaps. The Kruger flaps are positioned between engines 2 and 3 and the fuselage, respectively. VCC's were then positioned further out on the leading edge until just before the wing tip. (2) The cabin dimensions on 001 are EXACTLY the same as the -400. The main deck cabin width remained 6.1m (20' 1") for the life of the type. Length of fuselage, height at tail and wing spans varied according to model variant only. Sorry to be picky. 😃
