Those 3 you mentioned are non traditional banks. There are traditional banks that do not charge exchange fee. I know PNC bank does not charge conversion fee for money withdrawn abroad. The ATM operators may charge a dollar or two, but the bigger expense is the conversion fee your bank charges. Capital One credit cards do not charge any conversion fee for charges occurred abroad. They use the XE published daily conversion rates. You can bring cash to some countries where the exchange rate is very good, close to XE rate with no fees. Like in London, also in Istanbul Turkey where you get excellent rate at the Grand Bazaar. In short, bring a capital one credit card and then inform your credit card company of your travel plans so that they would know you are using the card in that foreign country, also ask your bank if they charge a conversion fee if you use the ATM card outside. Several banks do not charge conversion fee. We generall bring some cash just incase our credit card or ATM cards run into unexpected problems. We change a small at airports upon arrival, just enough for taxi or other expenses before getting to hotel. And then find a good exchange place in the city. You can google for these info for any city.
"Female tax" is for the mammogram and pap smear that males don't need. You know this so the sexist dramatics were not really necessary.
Now do "Man Picks Irish Handcuffs". 🍻
Thanks 👍 They both seem very in-depth . I wonder how much Turkey's inflation issues effected the higher cost. Still both are night and day different from getting something similar done State side. Question..... Have you ever done a video on the shots you needed to get before you started your slow travel journey?
Thank you. I suspect the Turkish prices is higher because they are targeting Brits. Their prices are in pounds. We have not done videos on our vaccines. We did get yellow fever, typhoid, hep abc in Malaysia
Glad you loved us. Come back soon.😊
Very soon!
Great information!! We are so interested in doing this too. Do you know if there is an option to add a dermatology specialist to the package in either location? Thanks!!
Yes, in both places
Thanks for the great comparison! We were wondering!!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video. I’m trying to get my kids onboard to do this. Two of the 3 live in Europe, so a little reunion in Istanbul would be right up their alley. And my daughter speaks Turkish, so that’s a positive, as well.
Go for it!
Thank you so much for this. Very helpful. We go back to the state every 6 to 7 months so we continue to get annual checkup in the states but we decided to do the comprehensive check up like in KL every 3 yrs. We’ve been wanting to visit Turkey so we will coordinate our next comprehensive checkup with our visit there. We are NOT a fan of KL so this helps too.
Glad it was helpful!
Fabulous information, thank you! I think I'd lean towards KL too based on your experiences. Agree that being able to converse easily in English helps reduce anxiety levels :-)
Good decision!
This was super interesting and helpful. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Great video and info! Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Our pleasure!
Based on the info you provided I'd pick Turkey. But I'm not a KL fan. Did you look for a similar facility in Turkey, maybe in a larger city?
We only checked out one place in Fethiye. I'm sure there are others elsewhere
The Carotid Artery check is a great test. I'm told it's relatively inexpensive in the US. Anyone with high cholesterol and a family history of heart disease should be learning about this test.
Yes. It was $75 in Fethiye
Great information - I’m looking forward to doing a full wellness check in the next year or so. I had semi-urgent surgery about 2 weeks ago for an issue that I’ve probably have had for quite awhile, but most likely would have presented itself much earlier on the tests and scans you had. Luckily it all worked out, but so frustrating that annual exams in the US aren’t much more than a blood panel, EKG and a conversation.
Thanks for watching and I hope you're feeling better. The doctors were shocked that my diagnosis was never found.
Nice to see the comparison. I have been getting my annual health screening at Prince Court in KL the past 2 years and have been totally satisfied with the care I've received there. As you've shown, you can get a similar experience in other countries, but I think this confirms to me that continuing to have my health screening done at Prince Court is the best course of action. I really think that most in the US can't imagine health care being better and more affordable in other countries, but as our experiences have shown (not only with health screenings but other medical care as well) there are other places in the world that put US health care to shame. Thanks for sharing!
You bet. Glad Prince Court is working for you
Very informative, thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Almost the whole population in Turkey smokes that it was hard to walk outside without constantly being exposed to secondhand smoke. It got so bad that I ended up cutting my trip short because of it. Kuala Lumpur feels so much better in comparison and hardly anyone smokes, and the air outside is so much cleaner!
That is an important factor. Yet I heard Malaysia really got into the lockdowns which is something I would want to avoid for me personally ..
The smoking in Turkey and accompanying litter of cigarette butts is atrocious
Most countries let you use a credit card at least at a hotel. Get your cash at the airport. You can pay for your taxi and get some food. Schwab fidelity USAA and Navy federal all work. I have never had any problems
Thanks for watching. ATMs with no fees are out there if you know where to look
If I connect my li USA phone number to Google voice and the other platforms too when I come back to the State could I get my old ( present one using) phone iver to ATT and next question WHY WHY would I go back to att
You can port your number as many times as you wish No reason to go back to ATT.
I just subscribed and will use flexierom My question when and if I come back to the states would I want to do go back to AT a local internet company So when I link my USA phone to Google voice I keep my phone number when I come back home would I want to stay only with Google voice
No reason not to stay with GV
Thanks for the ideas.
Glad you like them!
Strike-Out!
Love Charles Schwab. Decline ATM exchange
SO HELPFUL. Do you have a discount/affiliate code for FlexiRoam? I didn't see it elsewhere. :)
Interesting video guys. Looks like a beautiful area. One of my friend goes there often from the UK and always raves about it. I can see why!
So glad you liked it. We're leaving Turkey tomorrow and already making plans to come back.
Absolutely spot-on advice! My wife and I have also traveled extensively and years ago we stumbled onto the Fidelity debit card. Fidelity offers a cash management account that technically isn’t a checking account, but has most of the same features. In addition to saving on ATM fees and getting the best exchange rate, the account can be pegged to a money market fund, SPAXX, that presently pays a 4.28% dividend. So, money staying in the account isn’t idle.
Hey, there's another way. You can send yourself money through Western Union for a small fee and pick it up from a local agent. I did the math, and it only costs about 1% on top of mid-market rate. (The more money you send at once, the cheaper it is.)
Good to know, thanks
I used airalo esim in Australia and Hong Kong, very slow connect for Uber, restaurant finder , direction, So switch to pocket Wi-Fi glocalme numen air 5 G, what’s your thought as far as speed ?
We can't comment on your esim. Flexiroam is usually 4g.
interesting picks, many we have not been to. thx for this.
Thanks for watching!
Does flexiroam have unlimited plans and allow for mobile hotspotting? For activities like Netflix or gaming connecting to a tablet or laptop? Also, probably step zero is to make sure your phone is unlocked. Thank you for doing videos like this. It is very helpful. Do you guys use a VPN?
Excellent video!! Such great advice - I learned the hard way 25 years ago traveling about 'cash advance' on a credit card - that was a nice wake up. What I learned today was it was okay to go to the ATM at an aiport. Do you usually find a 'bank' ATM at the aiport? thank you!!!
Yes, frequently
Sorry for not fully understanding here. Trying to learn about this as a standard American who has never used a cell phone internationally. Link to flexiphone? Your promo code? I am confused? Is that your main provider then or just data? If just data, who do you use for your main provider? What is the rough breakdown of your bill for the esim case? Who is provider (cost and what is covered). For data you use flexiphone, both global and local. Do some of the local plans have unlimited data and allow hotspotting?
Our link to Flexiroam is in the description. Their pre-paid Global data works everywhere, so no need to have a different US plan. Our phone calls and SMS are through Google Voice. Calling and Data are not the same. US carriers just want to confuse you into thinking you have to buy them together and pay monthly for service you won't use.
Flexiroam has unlimited plans and you can hotspot with other people/devices and you can share your data with others too.
Axos Bank has unlimited DOMESTIC ATM fee reimbursements, but not international. You didn’t mention that in your video.
That's AxIs Bank that charges, not AxOs Bank. My Axis account has no ATM fees.
Another way that can work very well is to take your U.S. Cash into a casino that's near or attached to an American-branded hotel like a Marriott. The exchange rates are usually very good, and there shouldn't be any kind of fee or extra conversion rate. You may have to show your passport. This continues to be my go-to method in both the Dominican Republic and the Philippines, though I haven't yet tried it elsewhere.
Interesting! Cruise casinos too
Interesting! Cruise casinos too
Where does the Wise card come into play? I got mine before going to the Philippines last year and loaded it with $100 in local currency as a back-up but never used it. My Chase Reserve card doesn't have any foreign transaction fees and it worked fine.
We don't use Wise so can't comment. Sorry
Axos only offers 4 free ATM withdrawals per month internationally. Plus, you have to maintain a 75K USD balance. That's HSBC territory and is too rich for my blood.
My Axos free checking is unlimited.
@EatWalkLearn But it only reimburses all domestic ATM fees.
@@ExtraGuac007 The Essential Free account has free ATM withdrawals worldwide. I believe you might be looking at the World Checking. I've had my account for over 20 years.
@EatWalkLearn You were grandfathered in. The Essential checking account now charges a 1% international ATM withdrawal fee.
Great suggestions and I love the variety. Looking great you two and thanks for the great videos and info - Annette 😊
Thanks so much!
Is it working with pay as you go? Not a phone plan?
Pay as you go is awesome. We just got a great price from Flexiroam for 50 gig of data that will last for at least 3 months for both of us (you can share data with others)
Thank you! Can you please tell us how i can keep my bank and all US things without a home in the US?
That's a complicated question. Check out my book, "2 Carry Ons and a Plan" or look at some of our other videos
Excellent video...thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful!
If you are military veteran, USAA checking debit card has no ATM Fee. In addition, they refund other bank's ATM fee on your debit card up to 6 times per month.
Good to know
Even no fee debit/ATM cards do have currency exchange fee of 1% of total money withdrawn. No fee means $2-3 fee to use ATM machine of other banks. This, they will waive or refund, but they still charge the currency exchange fee of 1-3% of withdrawal.
Not on our cards
just did the GPS walking tour, it was great thx!
Glad you enjoyed it!
12:21 those tracks mean "DO NOT SWIM HERE!"
Got it
Great video! We do most of this. One data point is getting funds from your home bank before you leave. Depending on the trip, it may be worth getting a bit. We are hitting Thailand on a cruise and i know I will need cash but time will be tight and I wanted a bit to hit the ground. I was surprised that the rate Chase gave me was very close to market without any additional fees. Totally worth it. It may have helped I have Chase checking and cards. 💁♀️ Cheers from Cairns.
Good point about arriving by cruise ship. And since I'm also a Chase customer it's good to know they gave you a good exchange rate. Thanks for sharing.
Great video. Thank you for all that you two contribute. I have 3 notes of things that I'd like to add for security. 1) LOCK your card in the app when not in use. It's usually easy to unlock it on the phone or a computer when you need it. 2) On TAP ATMs be sure to make sure you are fully logged out of the screen before walking away from the ATM. 3) Setup ALERT text or emails on you phone for any transactions. I'd much rather get a nag alert when I get money out than miss an alert of someone trying to use my card or number when I'm sitting at the beach. Again great video and I enjoy the value you add to the community.
Great tips!
Never heard of Axos bank but it has to be making up for those free ATM fees somewhere. With Schwab and Fidelity it is on the investment side fees. However, I will check them out as money is insured by FDIC.
