What was that weird quest after Simulanka? Hoyo's message to players
Просмотров 15 тыс.4 месяца назад
There was a very strange quest at the end of the 4.8 event, that seemed completely unrelated to the rest. But was it? Maybe Hoyo was trying to tell us something. Let us explore this possibility.
A Tribute to Fontaine | Shenhe visits the nation of Hydro [pre - Natlan]

Can you remember the feeling of setting foot in Fontaine for the first time? Diving into the waters and the stories? I can't believe it's already been a year. This is an appreciation post, as I truly loved everything about this version.

The "heavens gate" is NOT the same thing as the floating Island of Celestia that we see in the sky. 2. For the purposes of this video, I will ignore the possibility of the sustainer of - and the heavenly principles, being two different people. Nahida speaks of the HP as ...
I really love how genshin manages to combine so many esoteric concepts, and yet, they do it in a way that allows for many interpretations. The single most reason I still play Genshin to this day is because of this worldbuilding, not seen in most animes and games these days. However, I have one thing to add specifically about persona. The origin of the word is more related to a "face" you use. Personality gives the idea of an inherent mental quality of the person, that differs their mode of thinking from other people, while Persona is more of the "face" you present to the world, kinda like for example how Furina's persona was that of the hysterical, celebrity archon when in truth she was this extremely lonely girl. Considering the Jungian aspects of the lore, I think Persona here is related to the idea of the Jungian Persona. So maybe, the surprising thing about Phobos having a persona isn't that it has a personality, but that it has a "face" of some sort to present to the world. Stretching the concept beyond it's Jungian and Genshin boundaries, wouldn't the "face" of something be the exterior, phenomenic form of it? I mean, you can be made of prima materia, have essential qualities, accidental qualities(Properties) and a Relation to other beings, but you still need a "husk", a "shell", a "form" of some sort to present externally to the world, so other people can identify you as you and not someone else. It's like the shadows from Plato's cave or Idiya's projector thing. I think for example, the first thing the many collective consciousness attempts in Teyvat did to people were to remove their "faces" in a way. For example, even if Jeht's father's will, memories and soul were not removed by the golden slumber, but added to it(which the quest implied), he still lacked the "face" of which to present himself to the world, one where Jeht, a being external to him, could interact with before, and probably won't reincarnate through the Leylines since his soul wasn't really gone (So for example, Hu Tao wouldn't be able to meet him). Another example are Melus and Silver, they didn't really die, they integrated into the collective consciousness of the Oceanids, and yet they don't have the external "face" to present to Navia anymore. Also, when you "disfigure" a being, you are removing their "face" and making the person unrecognizable to other people, despite the fact to the person disfigured, their experiences, their qualia, is still the same, and only other people are being immediately affected. Maybe Hilichurls cannot remove their masks and look beyond it at themselves or they "Caribert" themselves out of existence because something happened to their Persona.
You KNOW WHEN SOMEONE IS POWERFUL WHEN A KNIGHT IS Tackling her begging HER TO Stay away!!
The way I described this quest to my friends was "Kaveh and Alhaitham troll the entirety of Sumeru unintentionally via a book"
My only problem with this is that the two paintings depict vastly different looking dragons. Not to say the theory holds no water, it’s just a sticking point for me.
With kinich's part of the tibal quests we do see an old "friend" from th abyss order.
Abyss Impact rules
It's freaking Enjou again, I thought we punted that guy 😭
@@catdownthestreet Yup, my guess is the Abyss order wants to use Natlan to weave some new ley lines with their loom, since Natlan doesn't have stable ones.
Each of the Obsidian slabs that have the reputation rewards in each of the villages seems to be a nail (or a piece of a nail), that is covered in obsidian. If you look at the very tip of the bottoms of each of them, you can see what looks like the blue of the nail from under the Obsidian's black.
The leylines in Natlan were destroyed but the human realm didn't disintergrate.
@@GhostEmblem true! But they were not completely destroyed, and memory still flows through the night kingdom, as well as the remaining ley lines...
bro i love your lore videos! i think you need to work on your thumbnail design so that more people will click and watch your videos, what type of fonts and colors to choose is important to make interesting thumbnail, you can learn or copy from other creators. please continue what you're doing!
@neoneo4069 thank you so much! It's true, thumbnails are not my forte, there is definitely a lot of room for improvement there 😅
Apologies for the re-upload: I tried to fix some sound issues, especially the BGM that was interfering with the narration at times. The previous version of this video is now unlisted and will be deleted soon. Thx for the feedback and the suggestions left over there by some of you! :)
On the subject of sound editing, please use something to soften your s sounds. They're really bothering me as someone with sensory processing issues, which is frustrating because your videos are amazing :(
@catdownthestreet thank you! I will take this to heart and I know what you mean. I actually tried a de-esser but I haven't gotten the hang of it yet. I really appreciate this feedback!
you just reminded me.... i never finished that kaveh thing. i do remember going and helping kaveh for like two seconds then dipping LMAO
Since Collei very pointedly directed us towards the Sumeru quest at the end, I don't think it was something that was just tacked on to the end of the Simulanka quest with no meaning. I also don't think the storyline was a 'jab' at any part of the player base. I think Hoyoverse realized that their pattern of foreshadowing Archon questlines with the summer event was not a feasible strategy anymore, since the secrecy about the Natlan region, people and questline was causing a lot of anticipation to find out anything about it. All eyes were on the Simulanka quest for answers. So they said, you want answers, we'll give you many - but not about Natlan but more so about the entire mystery of Teyvat. I think they filled Simulanka with almost related storylines and red herrings so that people would try to theorize and make assumptions and added the last Sumeru quest as a way of saying - don't believe everything you see. I took only one thing away from the quest and thats the fact that we probably have already guessed the true mystery behind Teyvat and the main storyline, probably pretty early on in the main storyline, but Hoyoverse has filled the stories of Teyvat with many many red herrings throughout the 5 nations, so we cannot be sure until the main storyline concludes. I really think this was the reminder or hint they were trying to convey with the quest. (But also I could be reading too much into it haha, always a possibility) Anyway, I am happy that the summer event didnt include much Natlan foreshadowing, as I am having a good time exploring the Archon quest for myself. This video was well laid out, thank you for sharing.
There's this theory from Ashikai about how she intrepets it, it's all about the meaning of "name", this is how I remember it Name as in something that dictates fate Name as in something about role Name turns out to be not important at all, is what the Sumeru quest is all about, because the book have names that referenced real character name, but it is after all just a name and that name affects nothing of the story or role in the book and funilly, this interpretation answered in the current archon quest by Kachina's story so far. The ancient name given to her has meaning, it describes about her nature so well, is her name meaning resillience or something, I forgot, but in the end the Wayob said, the name is actually just a name with no special powers, it is Kachina herself that choose to follow that name and become what she is now, but she do choose to be like that because she want to live up to her name right? So the name does dictates the fate, asign a role, but also actually not important at all because what important is the holder of the name, maybe it is also like the Simulanka where the residence given a role, a fate, but in the end the are given freedom to choose their ending
I don't see any harm in theorycrafting as long as it's not taken seriously. It's just for extra fun
I agree! :)
i absolutly loved the old and newer pop culture referances in sinulanka they were fun to find, it was really nice to drop in on everyone in sumeru before leaving for natlan
It was about how they were going to retcon the Murata tribe out of existence. People have been "circling that name" since the manga came out since it's Himeko's last name and the fate of HI3 Himeko is still not 100% clear. But that's all gone now. There is no Murata tribe and the Archon is not named Murata. The name was pointless.
Haven't finished the video but Imma say one thing: I found this silly quest to be really enjoyable. I got to see most if not all of the Sumeru cast; and even if it's just filler in the end, I wish to have more quests like this one where we just see the characters interacting with one another or the player in a more casual way.
I think circling names definitely some type of foreshadowing to natlan ancient Names. The names being one letter off of historical figures names while also being diff people overall is def a self jab or meta from hoyo since alhaitham, who says this, is such a figure himself. I think this was overall a meta narrative that navigated how diff people read a story while inserting these things into their own characters. Some nice meta writing while also foreshadowing natlan.
The fact that the quest was unvoiced, and was literally nothing but travel around to get dialogue (which amounts to at least 100 pages of yapfest), makes me think that it was entirely unimportant. Even the reward was less than the detective quest in Metropole. Now that I say it, it does have a similarity with them both being about a detective/police who turned out to be the culprit, but it still doesn't feel like it has any deeper meaning. I felt like it was a lazy way to shoehorn in (give screen time to) characters that Hoyo couldn't competently incorporate into the story.
I'm Nahida
Playing through this quest I was getting rather exasperated with Kaveh. Like, plenty of names have slight variations in their spelling or get modified in fiction, why're you making such a big deal out of it?😂 Loved this breakdown of the quest❤ I'm like Nahida, but enjoy a good discussion after everything has been displayed on the table.
I was wondering about this exact quest! Thank you for sharing your point of view in the quest, it looked so out of context. I'm the one like Nahida then, :D I'm playing to enjoy the game and the story, not the spoilers. thanks for the video!
One time after finishing a world quest i got an achievement with some weird greek name . It stuck out to me so i googled it and found it was a reference to a childrens book. And that the point of the quest was some obscure metaphor. Afterwards i started paying alot more attention to names and achievements finding that allot of genshin content refrences real history and mythology. I think everyone already knows about the ars goatia, but it was also really interesting learning about some films and novels i never heard before. At some point there was so much, i thought of it as less of a nod towards the media and clues that the devs are trying to imply teyvatt and earth were once one and the same. 😅
Certainly underrated. More genshin players need to hear this theory/analysis because it's cool af
There's one possible purpose this quest served: it ensured every player doing it has recently been back in Sumeru and remembers how to navigate some of its more popular spots. (This probably increased the chance of players finding Nilou and Nahida in the aftermath of the Simulanka,, although it also meant anybody looking for the "venturers" would be thinking of Sumeru City's Bazaar or Port Ormos... instead of the Fontaine clock shop, of all places.) Not sure why it's important players remember how to get around Sumeru right now, although Sumeru City in particular is one of the most potentially confusing urban areas in Teyvat to learn to navigate. All those arcing ramps. I recall thinking at a certain point in the local main questline, "at least I'm finally sure I can get anywhere in the lower part of the city", and then realized. Possibly the devs feel it's time to return there for the next "non-summer holiday".
If the book was aimed at the player base, there would have been more details on character powers and meta rather than just the story.
I could see that quest as a way to have obligatory Sumeru character time because we won’t be seeing them for a while
I honestly take things like nahida at first but then pick-up the altered version just for fun. I honestly like to see the details and have overall fun and joy with it all. As well for the small subtle suspicious sugestions of mihoyo ways of getting money on a very very clever almost villaneous-way. ... With that said, there we have the obligatory... *_inhale_* SLIME-ARCHON THEORYYYY!!!
Personnally , i think the major point will be the resurrection of Durin, because of everything said in the quest and also , the title of Natlan's Story quest "Incandescent Ode of Resurrection" And maybe the fake sky
i really liked your view on this
Man, you really cooked up something amazing here. I was already following another channel with great theories based on all the text available in the game (Wei), now I'm going to follow yours too.
I respect most will be wrong as well! Only time will tell! No real theories, just looking forward to Natlan! 😊
very good take.
Excited to finally play Natlan and see what were red herrings and what was accurate
it is also a jab to themselves 😂
Imo if that is the case, while I can appreciate mihoyo's frustrations about leaks, it sort of comes across as weird and defensive? I dunno
simulanka most likely hinted about the witches goals... as of they are trying to correct the wrongs or that bad things celestia did and save people\creators.. it also told the story of durin, him being a good dragon, which can prove that gold's creations were good but somehow got curropted.. just like elynas in fontain got curropted.. and that rift hounds also probabaly got curropted by what caused the cataclyms 500 years ago. some desert notes stated that celestia used kaenariah as a scapegoat.. and that gold stopped a bad expiriment : the one that "history" said that caused celestia to kill them all.. the one dainslief believe and why he hates gold and calls her sinner too.. even though at that time based on aranara\pari lore, we know that when the cataclysm started he was NOT in kaeanriah, he was helping the pari with lumine and than he was near the pari region very injured, the pari saved him and than he helped him (the pari elder told us this). so from where did he got the information that the expiriment did took place and that gold didnt want to use her power to help kaenarianhs? dain also said that gold is in the possesion of a power that can destroy all... but fact is: albedo has that power, since he asked the traveler to kill him the moment this power gets out of control: so gold never wanted to use this power to destroy anything & she did stop her peers from doing something shitty back than: THESE INFO PROVES THAT DAINSLIEF IS VERY MISINFORMED ABOUT GOLD at least, if gold was that bad, the witches would not let her be part of them: since it seems like they do have morals. those tiny pieaces of lore and the fontaine lore about how celestia used remains of a visitor from outside of teyvat & sovereing dragons to make the gnosis: all show that celestia is hungry with power and collected different type of powers and reporsing them and doing expiriments. everything points to that that celestia was the one who tinkered with abyssal power and fked up, they already disliked kaenariah for rejecting gods so they did 1+1 and blamed all on them. at least this is my theory.... becuz all the nails were dropped on civilazations with knowledge and power that is now hordered by celestia: teyvat;s fake sky, time flow, astrology, laylines, elemental powers... (astrology especilly beucz dragonspine princess had the natural power to see the future and they were loyal to celestia, but celestia still killed them: and now we have astology and as mona confirmed: they can only see the future they are allowed to see by the higher power\celestia: it was confimed in the 2nd summer event were mona was present), plus all those civilazations had another thing in common: the irminsul branches who got destoryed by the nail too. i guess celestia was scared the truth will be reveled and celestia will lose its power as the higher god of teyvat XD)... now celestia is dorment, maybe they played too much with their greed for power and it backfired XD even the iilness celestia cursed the desret people is literaly has the same symptomes that turned kaenariahns into hilichurls: rukhadevata story showed us that she managed to save the people and stop the curse but it used all of her power and life force... or the fact that ei revealed that makoto actully went to help kaeanriah, which also showes that archons that went against celestia got killed too (look at egeria, she wanted to give better life to oceanids and gave them human form, but celestia made a machine to execute the hydro archon in general, but focalors managed to trick the machine and give the rightful power back to the dragon, since only the soveriegn full power could stop the primodial water)... and if celestia wasnt the bad guy, why would they make archons who witnessed what happened, sign a contract to never talk about it?? and if kaenariah was the bad guy: why would they send all of their tech and people all across teyvat to help against the abyssal rifts that oppened everywhere: why would kaenarianhs fight till the end in sumeru to protect it, slowly turning into hilichulrs (the huge mechas lore in sumeru). nahida and the irminsul are the answers to turn back the curse imo. cuz rukadevata manged to stop it once; the evidance of ealzer and hilicurse being the same is too strong.
That's exactly why I avoid fan theories. Let me discover it on my own.
simulanka will be gone? thanks for telling me.... i wil try to finnish it
Every summer they do an event that adds a new region for the entirety of that version. So keep an eye out every summer for an event like that so you're prepared.
That quest was just kaveh story quest disguised as a limited time event quest
It certainly would not be the first time they did that 😭
