Defeating True Vide in Octopath Traveler II - without taking damage! (100% Consistent, no nuts)
For a long while I thought this was impossible, but with some clever tricks it's actually doable - and it's even usable as a guide if you so wish, since no nuts nor duplicate battle-tested weapons were used. Throne is level 70, Castti and Partitio are level 65, and the others' levels don't matter. Turn-by-turn write up is in the comments.

How I Beat Octopath Traveler 2's Hardest Bosses in 3 Hours (Speedrun Explained)

I've always wanted to make a video like this, and now that I've been doing some speedrunning I finally decided to do it. This video is a commentated version of my recent personal best in the All Extra Battles Speedrun category. Since my last run I've made a few changes to the route too. I got pretty unlucky but played fairly well.

FLASHING LIGHT WARNING FOR HIKARI CHAPTER 5 AND TRUE VIDE THE WICKED. I'm pretty happy with this one. Shows off all the route changes since my first run and has minimal mistakes. I'm probably done with this category for now since I run on 60 FPS, which means I can't really compete for WR.

While my play was a bit slow at times, it's still a solid showcase of the new route I made for the category, and is 100% capable of WR with better play (it's also more consistent than other routes I've seen). Gear and Support Skills in the description. Turn-by-Turn Breakdown: Phase 1 (Throne, Ochette, Agnea, Partitio) - party order does not matter for this phase Turn 1 Throne: Latent Power - Reinforcing Jam on herself, then Aelfric's Blessing on Ochette Ochette: Springy Boots on Throne (guarantees Throne acts first on turns 2 and 3, though only turn 3 matters) Agnea: Latent Power Reflective Barrier (prevents damage from Calamity of Night) Partitio: 1 BP Donate BP on Ochette Turn 1, bonus turn Ochette: Dreadwolf (debuffs physical defence and does decent damage) Turn 2 Throne: Latent Power - Reinforcing Jam on herself, then Aelfric's Blessing on Partitio Ochette: Provoke Beasts - 1 Woodland Birdking III, 2 Headless Horseman (buffs Throne's speed for next turn, and buffs Throne and Partitio's attack and crit for the rest of the fight) Agnea: Energizing Pomegranate on Ochette Partitio: Summon Turn 2, bonus turn Partitio: Summon Turn 3 Throne: Latent Power - Reinforcing Jam on herself, then Aeber's Reckoning Ochette: 2 BP Provoke Beasts - 5 of your double hit beast (breaks Vide) Agnea: Energizing Pomegranate (L) on Throne Partitio: 1 BP Hired Help - Ruffians Turn 3, bonus turn Partitio: Latent Power - 3 BP Lionheart's Axe: On the Hunt Turn 4 Throne: Latent Power - 2 BP Surprise Attack, then Aeber's Reckoning Ochette: doesn't need to do anything Agnea: Energizing Pomegranate (L) on Partitio Partitio: 2 BP Lionheart's Axe: On the Hunt Turn 4, bonus turn Partitio: 3 BP Lionheart's Axe: On the Hunt Phase 2 (Temenos, Castti, Hikari, Osvald) - Castti must be above Hikari in the party order for this strat to work Turn 1 Temenos: Aelfric's Blessing on Castti Castti: 2 BP Concoct - Pomegranate Leaf, Whimsical Leaf, Diffusing Serum, Strengthening Serum. This is used to move Osvald or Hikari ahead of the remaining tentacles if they were hit by Tentacle Bash (which pushes the target to the end of the turn). Hikari: 2 BP Hired Help - Beastlings Osvald: One True Magic II Note: the reason everyone is at 1 HP is so that tentacle bash (which sets its target to 1 HP) does not damage anyone. If you don't care about doing this damageless, you can have all 3 non-Castti characters at whichever HP you wish. Turn 1, bonus turn Castti: 1 BP Concoct - 3x Darkdelion. Target the only tentacle that isn't broken with this to break it. Turn 2 Temenos: Creamy Saute on Castti (spicy jerky and elemental soup also work) Castti: Conjure Lightning Hikari: No Rest for the Weary (guarantees that he gets an action with sealticge' seduction up) Osvald: Sealticge's Seduction on Hikari Turn 2, bonus turns (listed in the order they occur) Hikari: 3 BP Divine Protection Castti: MAKE SURE YOU'VE SWITCHED TO YOUR STAFF BEFORE DOING THIS (concoct is weird and is the only magic skill to require you to be holding your elemental attack weapon to get the stats from it) 3 BP Concoct - 3x Darkdelion, Strengthening Serum, Diffusing Serum Turn 3 Temenos: 3 BP Aggressive Slash Castti: Energizing Pomegranate (L) on herself Hikari: Latent Power - Hienka Osvald: 1 BP Attack (Staff) - can use the other BP if you want, but it's not needed. Turn 3, bonus turns (listed in the order they occur) Hikari: Sacred Slash (debuffs and breaks Vide) Castti: 3 BP Concoct - 4x Darkdelion, Strengthening Serum Turn 4 Castti: 2 BP Concoct - 3x Darkdelion, Strengthening Serum The others don't need to do anything here.

    Wait just curious how can you get hikari to hit max? And what learnt skills do you recommend for the fight??

    • @Chewythebigblackdog
      @Chewythebigblackdog 7 дней назад

      Dealing lots of damage in this game comes down to both having high attack and having a lot of damage multipliers. Thanks to nuts, my hikari has 999 physical attack. Alpione's amulet gives him a x3 damage bonus at 1 HP, finisher's claws gives a 1.5x damage bonus to critical hits, and the battle tested blade and giant's club combine to give a 1.6x damage bonus to all physical skills. In this context, the main reason I can do so much damage with hikari mainly comes down to the x3 damage from alpione's amulet (I've used it on castti, temenos, and throne in other strategies to similar results). As for learned skill recommendations for the fight, sentencing gavel is his strongest aoe option assuming he has a staff job equipped. For single target dps, if you want to do 1 HP + alpione's amulet with him, limb from limb (what I use in the video) is going to be fantastic. If you aren't going to be doing 1 HP strats, his EX skill shinjumonjigiri (also shown in the video) is the best option. As for other learned skills to get for this fight, divine protection is very useful to provide an invincibility buff (combine with dancer divine skill for best effect). Aggressive thrust can be very useful to break during the first half of the fight.

The videos for those (on the Games Done Quick channel) have decent commentary. Personally, I might get around to running Galdera at some point (if I do there's a decent chance I'll make a commentated video for that one), but any% is just a worse version of this category imo (since it's basically just this but with less detours and no extra battles at the end).

    Hey there, I'm prepping to try this fight out, and while I have an Ancient Cursed Talisman, I only have the one. I need to re-read your descriptions and comments again, but I was wondering if there was a way to steal/farm for more of them? I'm finding conflicting sources online. I've seen they only spawn on the Island where we find the Arcanist class. I've seen two sources saying they can be stolen off the Delsta Devil in the Sunken Maw as a rare encounter, but one was debunked saying it was an Ancient Sentinel Core, then on the Steam Resource page, it says it is in fact able to be stolen from the Delsta Devil. Was wondering if you could confirm for me one way or another? I'm still going to go look for it in the meantime, but figured it was worth asking. Thanks for these videos!

      You get everything you used (consumables, money, concoct materials, NPC summon uses) during any extra battle back after you either die or win, so you don't need to worry about wasting your limited consumables on these fights. The strategy only needs one (and technically speaking you could actually replace it with ochette's howl and have throne use a beast liver on herself instead, but my true vide the wicked no nuts strat also needs one ancient cursed talisman so it's a pointless distinction to make). You can't get another one, the only 4 ancient cursed talismans in the game come from 4 chests on the lost isle. The other items with limited supply include decaying dragon's essence (2 max), grail of life (2 max), almighty olive (1 max), reinforcing jam (17 max), and rejuvenating jam (3 max). There's also ruinous relics and wrigging roots but those aren't nearly as useful. Regarding the delsta devil, not only can you not re-fight it after you've defeated it, but you can't even steal from it. Maybe they mean that you can find enemies with ancient sentinel cores in the sunken maw (which is true), though that area also isn't the only area you can find sentinel cores.

    • @parkermacneil5523
      @parkermacneil5523 Месяц назад

      @Chewythebigblackdog Yes, I am aware of the fact I get the items back, but I appreciate you letting me know. I was mostly just curious as I was farming Elixirs today and was wondering. Thanks for letting me know about the all the limited items too, much appreciated. Regarding the devil, there was contention about its rematch, and the source that was debunked said it was Sentinel Cores like you mentioned so now I know for sure. Thanks a ton.

      The extra battles were added in an update a few months ago so if you haven't played in a bit it's understandable to not know about it. If you've beaten the main story, there'll be a new option on the main menu called "extra battles". Choose that, select a file that has beaten the game, and then the rest is self-explanatory. Note that regardless of if you win or lose, you actually get to keep any consumables you used during the fights. Absolutely bonkers strategy, thanks for sharing! Only thing I would add is that you forgot to mention in the comment with the turn-by-turn breakdown that on the extra turn from Hienka, you need to have Hikari do a 3 BP Shinjumonjigiri; it's shown in the video but the comment doesn't mention it. As a bonus, I didn't have a Shady Inspiriting Plum (couldn't find anything about it online) but I managed to kill my party still somehow with Forbidden Elixirs, lmao. Probably wouldn't recommend it but it somehow worked out for me.

    So i don’t really get how Aebers Reckoning works…? With your recommended equipment, Throne is too strong, so I switched to the recommended stuff. But that made her way too weak, so I added a couple speed boosting weapons as well, but that did nothing?

    • @Chewythebigblackdog
      @Chewythebigblackdog Месяц назад

      Sorry for the late reply, but you can only get the benefits of the secondary stats of one weapon at a time (the one you are currently using). This means that the only weapon you need speed on for an aeber's build is your dagger (hence vengeful knife) and additional weapons won't help in the slightest. Note that this only applies to stats, weapon effects titled "equip effect" (e.g. battle-tested blade, sunshadow staff) will apply regardless of which weapon you are using. If the damage output is too high, don't do all of the things that I recommend at once, do some of them at a time until the damage works out. For example, start by unequipping her armour (maybe even just one piece of it) or using a worse dagger, and if it's still too much damage, do more of the things. Skipping the ancient cursed talisman should only be done in extreme cases (which I'd imagine yours is not). As for how much damage you need to look out for, the top 2 tentacles need to take more than 80k damage, but less than the damage cap.

      There actually is! Viewing a travel banter resets the step counter for getting an encounter, so by viewing a travel banter there I can avoid getting an enemy encounter. I also use it during Osvald chapter 4, Partitio chapter 4, and Throne chapter 2 father's route for a similar reason.

    Gear and support skills are in the description this time. Turn by Turn Breakdown: Active Party when starting the fight is Osvald, Temenos, Ochette, and Throne. Party order does not matter (note that speed does matter, check description to make sure your speeds are correct on each team). Before you do an actual attempt, you need to fight the boss (use same teams) and have Osvald use 2 BP Analyze on Vide's body (as shown in the video). This is to allow for Elemental Bomb Bottle to do 12 hits later. Turn 1 (A Step Ahead) Osvald: 2 BP Peacock Strut on Castti Temenos: 2 BP Precise Shot - all 4 hits on Wicked Left Arm Ochette: 1 BP Provoke Beasts - 4 Devil Deer. The counterattacks will kill her and she will revive with 32.4% of her HP. Throne: Latent Power - Forbidden Elixir on Castti, and Spicy Jerky (or Mountain Sausage) on Hikari. - You can farm forbidden elixirs in large quantities by following this tutorial: ruclips.net/video/WoX1ef5yq3A/видео.html. This fight needs 2. Turn 2 SWITCH PARTY Hikari: 2 BP Shinjumonjigiri on Wicked Left Arm - kills it Partitio: 2 BP Stimulate on whoever is last this turn (since ochette died, whoever gets paired with her might be placed after vide and this fixes that) Agnea: Windy Refrain Castti: SWITCH TO STAFF (if you don't, concoct will hit like a wet noodle), Latent Power, 3 BP Concoct - 4 Blusterblooms, Strengthening Serum. Use this on Wicked Right Arm, which will kill it if you switched to your staff and are built correctly. Turn 3 Agnea: Defend Partitio: Latent Power - 3 BP Hired Help - Foreign Assassins Turn 4 Agnea: 3 BP Elemental Bomb Bottle Partitio: Ancient Cursed Talisman Turn 5 Hikari: 2 BP Latent Power - Hienka (if you don't have full HP when using it, you should deal 40k+ per hit. This is still enough to get the kill) Partitio: Revitalizing Jam on Hikari Agnea: Latent Power, 1 BP Springy Boots. When all party members have springy boots, turn order is fully determined by speed. Castti: 3 BP Concoct - 4 Blusterblooms, Strengthening Serum Turn 5, bonus turn Hikari: 3 BP Shinjumonjigiri Turn 6 SWITCH PARTY Osvald: Energizing Pomegranate (M) on Castti. Temenos: Latent Power, 3 BP Precise Shot - all 5 hits on Wicked Left Arm Ochette: 3 BP Attack (axe) on Wicked Left Arm Throne: 1 BP Disguise on Agnea Turn 7 SWITCH PARTY Thanks to Springy Boots, turn order should look roughly like this (if Partitio and Agnea are swapped it's OK). If not, check your speeds. Hikari: Vacant Stare Castti: 3 BP Concoct - 3 Blusterblooms, Strengthening Serum, Diffusing Serum Partitio: 3 BP Attack (spear) Agnea: 1 BP Attack (dagger) Every single party member here will die to the darkness effect. This is intentional, and abuses the fact that when one party dies, all remaining actions that round (including vide's) are skipped. With springy boots this then allows the other party to immediately take their next turn. Turn 8 Thanks to Springy Boots, Temenos goes before Osvald and Throne goes before Ochette this turn. If not, check your speeds. Osvald: Energizing Pomegranate (M) on Castti Temenos: Revive (DO NOT BOOST THIS) Ochette: 3 BP Latent Power - Beastly Howl Throne: 3 BP Elemental Bomb Bottle Turn 9 SWITCH PARTY Partitio/Agnea (whoever goes first): 1 BP Stimulate on Castti (this ensures Castti does not go last) Castti: 3 BP Concoct - 4 Blusterblooms, Strengthening Serum After Castti's action, SWITCH BACK TO THE OTHER PARTY. Other 2 characters (either Hikari and someone from the other party, or 2 characters from the other party) will do the following: Character 1: Energizing Pomegranate (L) on Ochette Character 2: Stone-Roasted Rice on Castti. If it's Osvald, can use 1 BP Peacock Strut instead for the same effect. Turn 10 Only Temenos, Ochette, and Throne are guaranteed to be alive here (thanks to the lightning resistance amulets). Temenos: Latent Power, 3 BP Precise Shot Ochette: 3 BP Provoke Beasts - 6 of your 2 hit sword/staff/fire/wind beast Throne: Rite of the Sun Turn 11 Note: Osvald's turn is placed randomly when he gets revived, so he's not included here. If he gets a turn, can just do a basic attack. Temenos: Shady Inspiriting Plum (buy from the black market). This debuffs defence on the bottom party, which ensures they die to dark calamity. Ochette: 2 BP Provoke Beasts - 5 of your 2 hit sword/staff/fire/wind beast Throne: No turn thanks to Rite of the Sun. Turn 12 Due to Springy Boots, turn order should look roughly like this (Hikari and Agnea can be in whatever order) Castti: 2 BP Concoct - 3 Blusterblooms, Strengthening Serum. The Strengthening Serum actually isn't needed here, can do 1 BP instead without it. Partitio: Donate BP on Hikari (technically this is only needed if hikari has 2 BP this turn from dying, but it's done anyways) Hikari: Aelfric's Blessing on Castti Agnea: Forbidden Elixir on Castti Turn 12, bonus turn Castti: 3 BP Concoct - 4 Blusterblooms, Strengthening Serum Turn 13 Only required actions are listed here. Other characters can do whatever they want (just don't heal castti). Partitio: 2 BP Donate BP on Castti Castti: 2 BP Concoct - 3 Blusterblooms, Strengthening Serum Turn 12, bonus turn Castti: 3 BP Concoct - 4 Blusterblooms, Strengthening Serum - kills (technically you only need 1 hit to kill lol but using 4 is funnier)

    Two questions: -Why does Hikari need to use Peak Performance instead of starting the fight pre-damaged to 1HP to abuse the low hp damage boost? -Why does Hikari need to use Shinjimonjigiri instead of Limb From Limb against the first hand he destroys?

    • @Chewythebigblackdog
      @Chewythebigblackdog 2 месяца назад

      This fight fully heals you to start it, so you can't pre-damage to 1 HP. If I was able to I 100% would have. Shinjumonjigiri is affected significantly less by enemy defence than limb from limb, so when you don't have the 3x damage boost from alpione's amulet it does more damage. If I used Limb from Limb instead, it would have done around 132k damage, which is 20k short of killing the hand.

      For the build here, Castti needs near-maxed out elemental attack and level 80+. Also make sure you are switching to your staff before using concoct. If you want you could follow the route on your playthrough. The thing about this strat is that there's a fair bit of nuance to it that isn't explained too well in the route (e.g. precise speed stats for springy boots turn order). Check out the "True Vide the Wicked 100% consistent strategy" that I made, it's more suited to standard playthroughs and is better documented (and the only nuts it requires is enough to get 999 physical attack on hikari with BT blade and 500 critical with giant's club)

  • @septets
    @septets 3 месяца назад

    if you were making a tier list for the power levels of usefulness of the travelers, how would you rate them? I mainly used Osvald and Hikari in my playthrough but a lot of people tend to rate Osvald fairly low as he's not very useful in the endgame fights (though it seems like you used him as a secondary DPS for your lower level Galdera clear and your 100% no RNG True Vide the Wicked clear)

    • @Chewythebigblackdog
      @Chewythebigblackdog 3 месяца назад

      I wouldn't say any character in this game is "bad", but Osvald is the least versatile (since the only role that his base job and latent help him do is magic dps). Add in that e.def down is hard to access and he's hard to get use out of (especially since the other 2 characters that do good magic dps have better supportive toolkits). Osvald as main dps is good on galdera phase 1 and solid in both true vide fights. I've joked about Osvald being a disappointment every time I've had to build around him (e.g. needed an attack buff/critical scope for the true vide the wicked fights, needed hired help to supplement damage in the galdera guide, and even the HP nuts needed in this run for him to tank hits). The boss fights in this run all don't involve RNG (besides the 95% collects on garnet and stenvar, alrond RNG on the assassins, and h'aanit potentially getting an RNG extra turn). As an aside, the main reason that Castti is the main dps for the extra battles is that she's actually my only way of killing True Vide the Wicked's right arm without needing to either get better defensive gear, more ochette beasts, or stone of truth (and additional levels). I'd say that from a pure combat perspective Castti is the best overall (ignoring the Ochette glitch), with Hikari, Ochette, and Throne (in no particular order) making up the rest of the top 4. If I'm looking specifically at making optimized strategies, then Partitio and Agnea both have good latent powers that make them useful if the strategy needs it (Partitio also has unique access to that OP divine protection NPC). Osvald and Temenos imo bring the least to the table for optimized strats (Osvald mainly has his single target damage output, and Temenos has his night passive, second EX skill, and the cleric job). If looking at usefulness for a normal playthrough, I don't think you can really rank them tbh. I've done quite a few playthroughs and everyone has more than pulled their weight. I even did a meme run where every character needed to be the main damage dealer for their own story chapters (and as a bonus challenge, I didn't let myself use the same strat on 2 different characters).

Learned skills also take more time to get than Castti's potency weapons. My other kill also used a higher level Osvald which is infeasible to get in the run, since only 4 characters can come to assassins, and partitio, throne, and castti are required to go (once you add hikari you have no more room). tl;dr: the other kill is better suited to normal playthroughs, this one is better suited for speedruns
