This channel is a mixture of my past and present work with guitar and lute. The earliest videos of faculty recitals on guitar begin around 1985 and continue to more recent times. Most of these performances were given at Eastern Michigan University where I have taught since 1975. Although there are occasional mistakes, I hope the performances show the enthusiasm and excitement from playing before a live audience.
I am in my thirty-fifth year as a professor of music at Eastern Michigan University where I teach all students in the guitar program (see ruclips.net/user/emuguitar) and graduate courses in music history.
I have two studio-recorded classical guitar CDs. "Classical Guitar Recital" is a digitally-remastered version of a recording made in 1988; "Summer Serenade" is of newer material recorded in 2006. Both are available from CDBaby.com (see link below) and iTunes.

Baroque Lute Exercise (Nelson Amos)
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.13 лет назад
Robert Barto and Richard Stone inspired this "daily exercise" for baroque lute. The exercise consists of a descending/ascending diatonic scale, followed by a descending/ascending pattern of thirds (all over a C major chord in the treble), then concludes with outlining bass-note triads on C, F, C, G7, C. Good for thinking about sound production, practicing the primary chords in a given key, and ...

Beautiful music and also very well played! 🎵🎼🎶
Beautiful instrument
It doesen't get any better than this. Delicious.
Beauteful music.ruclips.net/video/fXcrsyNUr6Q/видео.html
nigel is great but this is not his best, he really rushed through it, many flubs and didn't let the songs develop, too bad
Wonderful, as to be expected!
This is awesome.
Divine performance!
Hi there Doctor Amos! I've moved from Dallas Texas to Lansing last year. I'm interested in learning baroque lute and I have one. Are there any teachers in the area that you know of?
Excellent player..!! The expression, phrasings and dynamic are REALLY GOOD...!! 10/10
First one sounds like bad version of Da Crema Ricercare 11?
Bravo!!!🙏
Очень приятная музыка, спасибо!
Thanks!

My word...the head of that....instrument....isn't just out of the frame, I think it's out of the zip code!
Just beautiful.
I built a cigar box guitar theorbo called a Tiorba Cigarra. It has 8 strings (the lowest 5 are diatonic). On this instrument the bass strings are used a lot (chacones & passacaglias). For $100 I built a nice sounding instrument. And it's easy to play and hold.
My teacher thought that there isn’t more play through of this songs except one video-a different video... *One search in youtube later* Well you were wrong
ass kissers the lot of you
What a primitive instrument!
Sounds a little heavy metal... 🙈
Nope. it is the contrary, heavy metal sounds like this! Metal bands are influenced by baroque and renaissance musicians.
It's actually extracted from era's Turkish music
@@warforglory Yeah. You can literally hear the classical turkish music influence on this piece
朝早くから聞いています。この音色は朝にぴったり。爽やかになります。
Fantasía #40: 4:45 I love how they call it "The Minute Masterpiece". It's my favourite da Milano's piece and wonderfully played by master North.
This is the most beautiful thing I've heard all year.
Beautiful ...
This deserves the thumbs up just for keeping a lute in tune! Quite the task!
"lets put the microphone on the floor, that will sound great!"
I would imagine that this devine music even reaches the soul of insects.
Hello and I used your video on my classic guitar blog. I hope that's alright. Best regards! www.lm-guitarra.com/francesco-da-milano/
Lysande!!!
Nigel's playing here is magical. He and Francesco da Milano both sound divinely inspired. Absolutely gorgeous.
Fantasia 41 4:30
Magnífico
my ear is not used to this tuning.. I would cringe if I were playing tuned up like that.. Nigel is doing a great job as usual! and renders the tuning comfortable to my ears.
why does he appear nervous..this is basic lute
I look forward to hearing your version of these 'basic' pieces.
Theorbos are banned in California. Instrument string capacity is limited to 6. We allow open carry of Theorbos in Michigan.
Theorbos of war only belong on the battlefield.
Considering how many ppl play, or the amount of music out there, this is great even if not so good.
No soy uruguaya. Soy gaditana.
Bravo!!!
I've been wondering what this funny looking instrument was I surprised the guy playing it didn't fall into the water lol
BRAVOOOO!!!
Who is the Lute maker ?
Not absolutely sure if it's the same one, but the lute NN plays on his Milano CDs was made by Malcolm Prior: a truly lovely instrument!
That was some of the most uninspired playing I've ever heard. Technique certainly isn't everything. I'll take Jonas Nordberg any day of the week. He makes the instrument sing.
Just a question. Would he be reading from tablature or standard notation do you think?
Tablature without a doubt
tab I wonder if he reads Italian
sorry it's upside down..cheers
air braille!
Nelson, could you tell the name of the luthier of your instrument?Salutes from Brazil
Enchantée.
What a wonderful instrument, played perfect.
You make the playing of this piece appear effortless.... A mark of true competency.
Me encanta!
