      From the research I’ve done, there’s two big options: zip ties or synthetic whale bone. If you go with the synthetic boning, you can get it from Burnley & Trowbridge in various thicknesses by the yard. Pricewise, I think both options come out about the same. If you do use zip ties, I’d say buy the longest you can, as that’s the cheapest route (often the price difference between 18” and 24” is negligible but that can buy you 2 bones per tie or more).

    on your straight stitch you are missing the thread going through the guide right above the needle.

    Awesome job demonstrating a square knot! I used to own the same model of serger as you before I purchased my industrial model. That Juki MO-654DE is a great machine! When rethreading a serger, I personally never bother trying to get the knots to pass through the needles. I find it much quicker to just cut the needle threads right before the eye of the needle (before pulling anything through) rather than spending time fiddling with the thread chain and needing to be fussy about avoiding tangling. Yes, it means I have to rethread the needles every time, but I find it much quicker to do it that way because it also makes pulling the looper threads quicker and easier when you can just pull the whole thread chain… (Plus, it’s too easy to bend the needle when trying to pass a knot through.) Try it and see if it works for you. Also, the threading on your serger looked a little odd to me, so to be sure I looked at my copy of the manual for that machine and also referenced some old photos that I have when I first unboxed my machine… you might want to give the manual a quick look because it appears that you are not threading your machine correctly! (At the beginning, the thread should loop around the thread guide plate, not just pass through it. And you’re missing some thread guides right before the thread passes through the eye of the needle.) Lastly, on your industrial straight stitch machine, is there a reason that you skipped the last thread guide on the needle bar? Or just an oversight? I know this is there to help guide the thread along the groove of the needle (opposite the scarf), and while I’ve seen some people take things a step further by wrapping the thread around the needle before passing through the eye (for nicer topstitching), I’ve never seen anyone skip that thread guide altogether? Anyways, I hope my comment is helpful. I enjoy watching your videos!

    • @french.meadows
      @french.meadows Месяц назад

      Thanks for your feedback! I did in fact not thread the serger correctly when filming this and did some rethreading between the initial steps and when I finally show the finished results. Since this video is not about how to properly thread this type of machine I did not think that important enough to refilm. As for not threading the top bar on the straight stitch, I often skip this step and I never notice a difference between it being threaded or not, at least for the types of sewing I’m doing.

    I am struggling with this currently, but the ID verification is throwing me. Under 'Go Verification' It's asking for identity proof as in, legal documents, and proof of my 'enterprise registration'. I don't own a company, I just draw pictures that are being stolen! How do I go about filling in these kind of questions??

    • @french.meadows
      @french.meadows Месяц назад

      Last time I looked at this I believe it just listed enterprise registration as an example but not a requirement? For an individual I believe you can simply upload copies of an identification card like a drivers license or passport.

    I do alterations from my home, I have incorporated many of these already especially the magnets. I use a sticky dot to keep the magnet where I want it instead of having it lift from the machine when I pick up my snips, but your paper clip on the thread stand is brilliant , thanks

    I’ve been enjoying your videos for a couple of weeks now. Thanks for the content! I like your idea of keeping a separate tomato with pre-threaded needles. I’m going to have to set that up. I keep small trays next to each of my industrial machines (straight stitch, overlocker & coverstitch) which hold all of the tools I regularly need at that machine: thread snips, tweezers, awls, needle/looper threaders, etc., and I add or remove things depending on what I’m presently working on. I store my bobbins with my thread and only keep bobbins for the thread I’m using in the machine table divots. (I sew a lot of different things though - upholstery, leather, clothing, dog accessories, etc. - so I have a very large variety of threads.) Under the right side of my straight stitch industrial machine, I have an IKEA Micke drawer unit which is full of additional things/tools I need access to, but maybe not so frequent as to justify space in the tray. My top drawer has three plastic organizers full of presser feet, plus some presser feet accessories; in the second drawer I have dividers/organizers with numerous seam guides, machine needles, screwdrivers/pliers/tools, a magnifying glass for seeing needle sizes, etc.; in the third drawer, I keep boxes of empty bobbins, bobbin clips, bobbin labelling accessories, etc.; and in the largest bottom drawer, I keep my buttonholer attachment, binders with machine manuals, machine oil, compressed air, large tools, etc. The nice thing about this setup is that most things I need are easily within reach and I don’t have to stand up to get them. The fact that the IKEA Micke drawer unit fits under an industrial machine table is amazing. Obviously, everyone’s setup will differ according to what they sew, how much space they have, etc., but I have three additional Micke drawer units under my pressing station. I personally don’t like using pegboards or having my thread on display because I like to have everything neatly put away and out of sight (like our kitchen: no appliances stored on the counters). But I’m also the kind of person who puts things away in exactly the same way, every time. (My t-shirts, for example, are hung up in my closet always in the same order.) I label the drawers in my sewing room so my wife can find things too, but I personally don’t need the labels. I can say, "go into the sewing room, the drawer unit under the straight stitch machine, in the second drawer in the back left corner there’s a black screwdriver in the divider tray…" and it will be there! Anyways, hopefully some of my ideas are beneficial to you. Thanks for the videos!

    So cool you found what works for you. Organization before starting to sew is the most important thing I can think of. Its almost the most sanity saving thing as well. I myself have a few boxes holding specific things on my sewing table and the tooks are used for both machines. The magnets as you use them didn't work for me as my Autism had me obsessing about alignment constantly.
