    Idk if you have used magnesium flakes to soak in before but it works a lot better than epsom salt soaks from my experience. Coupled with scraping and I've found that to be the best self administered recovery methods, along with general mobility. Amazon says the brand I ordered, if ordered by midnight would be delivered tomorrow. Again it's well worth the try for recovery imo. Good luck tomorrow and run well. I'll be running the half again, ran it in 2022 and it was terrible between the heat and foot arch pain I developed 2/3rds of the way through. I ain't super fast or fast, but I'm fast enough and in good enough fitness this time to start in A wave which is a first for me, and at 40 y/o I'll take it.

      Great advice on the magnesium flakes, I’ll give it a try. Good luck in the half - we have great weather this year so hopefully it will be a better experience. Also, it’s much nicer when you don’t have to battle the elements en route to the finish.

      @@robmazzanti Weather is a lot better looking this year for sure! Plus the wind being out of NNW will be a tail wind for 2nd half of the half, hopefully it works to your advantage in the full also!

    If your up to it, I'd love to hear a 100, 200, 300 mile updates and thoughts on this shoe. I tried it on at fleet feet in short pump. I personally like 8-10mm drop in a running shoe, however it is so comfy and while the foam is soft it is so soft and squishy to where it was a lot of instability. Also, for me at least I have a wider forefoot so trying to find a shoe that has a wider base and not just more upper volume to where the upper is too big to fit my foot correctly is always challenging. I'm looking at options to replace my Invincible run 3's by the end of this month into middle of next month, still kinda considering these as I feel they fit the bill better than any other shoe I have tried or considered, though the 6mm drop is a more minor issue, the lack of width could be a much larger issue for me in terms of edge blisters forming.

    • @robmazzanti
      @robmazzanti 12 дней назад

      Great idea - I agree reviews are much helpful after logging more miles and getting a better feel for the shoe. I’m getting close to 100 miles and will share an update soon.

    Just found this race after I ran the Army Ten Miler while seeing what other 10 mile races are within 250miles of Richmond. I was wondering why kinda recognized your name, you stole a CR from me on strava a week and a half ago lol. I'll consider this race next year, I am already signed up for the ATM again. And good luck with the Richmond Marathon, I may or many not run the half or 8k, undecided as weather pending closer to race date.

    • @robmazzanti
      @robmazzanti 16 дней назад

      I ran the Army 10 miler last year, it’s pretty fast with good support throughout the course. The VA 10 miler is much more challenging, but logistics (parking, hotels, etc) were runner friendly and it’s a really deep field with a lot of competitive athletes. Looking forward to Richmond - weather is typically good with the exception of the warmer temps in 2022. Less of an issue for the 8k, but definitely noticeable once getting into the half.

      @@robmazzanti I ran the Marine Corps Marathon 10k this past Sunday and stayed all the way in Reston and just took the MTA in from there, much quieter out that way and nicer I felt, just a 45 minute ride each way. I did the Richmond half in 22 and was fairly miserable due to the heat and also the dreaded arch pain from the AF1's. Ran the 8k last year. I'll surely keep the VTM on my radar for next year.

    how do you have a life running so many miles? what do you do for a living? family? I apologize if your other videos answer these, first time watching

    • @robmazzanti
      @robmazzanti 24 дня назад

      Great question - I’ll preface my answer by saying that I love running and that’s how I choose to spend most of my free time. I like to travel and try new restaurants, but day to day, outside of work, I have a fairly simple routine doing things that bring me joy like spending time with my finance, running, video creation on RUclips (newest hobby) and some light reading / watching tv. It’s very possible to run 100 mile weeks with some planning and good time management. On an average week, I run between 10-12 hours per week with three days where I run 60-70 mins in the morning and 30 mins in the evening, 3 days where I run once for 80-90 minutes, and a 2 hour long run on the weekend. One of the great things about running is the flexibility - I can lace up a pair of shoes and get out the door whenever my schedule allows or most convenient. Until recently, I worked in investment banking and worked ~80 hours per week, 12-15 hours per day during the week and another 15 hours over the weekend. I would wake up around 6 and run, and then get to the office by 9 am. After work, I would fit in a second run whenever I could, sometimes that would be before / after dinner, other times it would be at 10 pm. This was difficult because I was only sleeping 4-5 hours per night and was always tired. After two years, I decided to leave the firm to find something more sustainable. I’m currently still in the job search, so I have more time and flexibility in my schedule. Prior to investment banking, I created and managed a high-performance junior tennis academy, and I’ve returned to coaching a few athletes part-time in the afternoons / evenings while I figure out my next career move. Also, I do not have a family yet - but I do have a very supportive finance. We share the workload around the house and help each other whenever we can so we can both pursue our interests / hobbies. Overall, I’ve found that I’ve tended to prioritize the things that matter the most, and I’ve removed a lot of things that I don’t truly enjoy or help me achieve my goals. There are also several things I do that help make running more efficient with a busy lifestyle - this was so important when I was working long hours. Some are really simple but go a long way, such as laying out outfits the night before, meal prepping, and having workouts and routes planned ahead of time. This is something I can make a video on if there’s interest. I know this is a lot of information, but I hope it’s helpful!

    Thanks for the round of questions😍 What is your body weight at what height and how many kilograms do you think would be helpful to reduce in your case before it tips over? What is your ratio of specific runs to miles per week in terms of volume? Are you a fan of cross-training or do you prefer to take a break to only run specifically? Do you think your maximum oxygen uptake is genetically higher than that of ambitious average runners or have you also measured it? Do fast long runs of over 30km play a key role in your training? You are an action hero! 🦸

    • @robmazzanti
      @robmazzanti Месяц назад

      These are great topics and I’ll go further in depth for each of these ideas in future videos. In the meantime, here are a few answers: 1) Bodyweight is 145 lbs (65 kg) and height is 5’9” (175 cm) - I’ve lost about 20 lbs (9 kg) over the last 18 months through endurance training and maintaining a clean diet. I place less emphasis on a target weight and focus more on fueling to optimize performance and promote recovery. 2) Training volume varies depending on my target race. I’m currently averaging just over 100 miles (160 km) per week over the course of 7-10 runs for my fall marathon build 3) I have an extensive foundation (10+ years) of weightlifting and plyometrics, and incorporate 2-3 hours per week cross training including cycling, playing tennis, light weights, calisthenics, and core work 4) I had my VO2 max measured at 68 in 2023. The combination of high intensity workouts and endurance training have helped developed this over time, which may also be influenced by genetics. I plan to get this tested again soon so look for that video. 5) Long runs are a staple in my training. I will run over 18 miles (30 km) about 10 times in a marathon build, most of which include a workout after a warm up and cool down. These vary in structure from progressive runs where I finish at target marathon pace (or faster) to fast intervals / long tempos following an extended warm up and steady state effort.

    • @PERFECTWORKOUT
      @PERFECTWORKOUT Месяц назад

      OK, thank you for these valuable clues: I have a similar weight in relation to height, which confirms a guideline. It is also interesting that the magic number of 100 miles always comes into play for a performance like yours. I would have expected an even harder volume and intensity for the long runs, and I am relieved 😆🎉

    I have a question! Even on easy runs, my heart rate is super high - what would you recommend to someone to lower their running heart rate?

    • @robmazzanti
      @robmazzanti 3 месяца назад

      Try building in short walk / run intervals to help keep your heart rate lower on easy runs. An example could be to run easy for 3 mins and walk 1 min - and then adjust depending on other factors such as weather (heat, humidity, etc), sleep, stress, and general fatigue. Over time, the amount of time you’re able to run will increase and the amount of time walking will decrease.
