Good field recorder probably

you know I don't really plan ahead in life so my special technique is I just listen and wait for the times in between the wind to press record hahaha this is genuinely true. BUT, to take it further, I think that for recording drum one shots like in this video, a little wind isn't so bad. In fact the whole appeal here is grabbing sound that already have some full audio spectrum activity on them like the crunchy leaf stuff on my kick drum sample. Instead of grabbing a traditional kick drum sample and then conditioning it with a tape simulator for a more saturated and airy sound, just forage a wild sample and then use EQ to tone it down if the wind or whatever is too high. I see people in the studio layering white noise or even the sound of a bike pump expelling air over drum samples. But here I guess I'm letting nature do that for me. Sorta some John Cage philosophy of music, giving the opportunity to encounter chance in the music creation, letting some elements be decided by a natural force out of one's own control. This, I guess, makes the music a conversation with nature and the external world instead of an insular and solitary practice.

@@-47- yea probably also this though haha. Zoom H4n is what I'm using here. The thrift store micro cassette recorder wasn't cutting it haha.
