can I take a pro res raw and turn it into another file that davinci will take for raw color space
Select clips - Clips - Render and Replece done
Great Video buddy
ah yes you want to change container from mkv to mp4 but instead you re-encode the whole thing instead of copy the encoder if it's already in an supported codec
Bro, this will save me. Thank you so much. Subscribed.
Woah I finally found a real industry-working editor and not another "influencer" that only teaches you quick tips and tricks. Thank you so much. Subbed.
Man this is one of the best comments I’ve received. Thank you!
The problem with this is that if the clips have different in and outs (opposed to having the entire clip in th sequence) the script will export the full clip, not the in and outs. It is basically doing the same thing as with the project manager but giving you the option of encoding to h264 or whatever else you set up later in media encoder. Also, if the clips have effects applied to them (in my case, lumetri) the exported clips wont have the effects applied. I contacted the developer and he thinks there is a workaround and will look into it in the future, as of now this is how it stands.
amazing indeed!
Glad you think so!
Thanks dog
really and 4 years later you still helping people you're a hero
That’s too kind. Glad it helped!
i see your video 1st time
thank you so much for this help full Video for me ,
The version i downloaded doesn't have a way to enter the input and output point. How do i do this, so i can cut a video without re-encoding it?
Thanks for this video - one concern though: is there a way to avoid the stretching which comes from inserting the Gana device? I was hoping to capture the VHS footage in its original aspect ratio and without any distortion of the picture relative to the original.
Not that I’ve found. You can fix it in almost any video editing software after it’s recorded though.
this smooth cut on davinci 19.1.1 looks waaay too different.
Our colourist uses Resolve and AAF files linking to original media can cause all sorts of headaches if there are speed changes and motion keyframes so there's a few more things we do a little differently: With picture locked, I do all the clean up you do but before I export I move each source to it's own video layer (E.G. Sony A7siii track 1, GoPro Track2, etc.) --- colour coding the source clips based on camera type speeds up this process. Then I save the whole project as a temporary "export for CC" project. I remove/disable all LUTS on all the source and selected clips. Then I export each track individually as a ProRes QT (you have to turn off other tracks while you export each one). Then I reopen the original PP project, create a new timeline and bring each exported video track in and add them in the same order to the new timeline. Then I selected everything and choose "edit detection". Then I delete all the black clips from every track. Then I export and XML. Comes into Resolve cleanly without errors every time. And the colourists knows what is what. Wish there was a fast way to create a flattened video/audio file within in the timeline like Avid Media Composer can. Wish there was a fast way to temporarily turn LUTS off and then turn them back on; or exports that have an option to disable all source and applied LUTS. Helpful video. Thank you!
The separate project for the color prep is an EXCELLENT idea.
This is an awesome video, thanks for making it. I wish I knew this when I was learning prep! A few thoughts: 1. I wish the remix tool COULD be sent to mix without having to create a mixdown. The thing that sucks about a mixdown for music is it has no handles for the audio mixer. 2. Instead of using gang, I put the reference on the top of the timeline and change the blend mode to difference. Less chance of me missing subtle details. 3. I'm eternally tickled by the different jargony words we use in film. Instead of "Bake & Blade" we call that "Tape-to-tape." Funny little industry we work in.
Glad you think so! It’s the nerdy stuff that trips us all up right?
OMG! thank you! you saved me from an unsolvable puzzle
Or you just go to file, project manager, consolidate and transcode, select individual clips...instead of buying a stupid script.
The problem with the project manager approach is that you can't render into H264, and sometimes you just need that
Project manager also will not export the clips with their effects from the timeline - that I’m aware of. This script does.
special thanks from brazil!
bruh, 2 hours to convert lmao
for anyone looking at this in the future, track select forward should be "a" as the default shortcut
This free piece of software is INCREDIBLE!
2:26 Jump into Premiere?!
This is INCREDIBLE. By the way, I adjusted your script to fit my workflow a bit better and actually thought you might be able to use it as well. In my VFX workflow, I usually count by 10s to allow for additional shots be slotted in later. I added a new variable called 'Count By' and set the default to 10 and exposed this in the user inputs. I then changed the shot number equation to be "(start-number - Count By) + (Count By x counter). This equation also allows you to increase the number by a specific amount. So lets say i wanted to add 5 shots between 30 and 40, I can simply set the starting number to 30, set the count by to 2 and it will add 5 new shots while still keeping numbers open. This is EXACTLY what i needed and premiere should include this out of the box
whoaaaa 👌👌
Sometimes it doesnt let me move clips 0.001 second, instead it jumps like half second. Is there a way yo move clips by value I input?
Sir, you just made so professional and detailed video on topic, no one even covers, I cannot thank you enough.
So nice of you to say, thank you!
Thank you for this!
You bet!
Not what I was looking for
Okay
thank you
Really great video, short and to the point. Four years later it still helps!
Glad to hear it, thank you!
I thought overcutting was when you cut out too many of the gaps. That's what I'm looking for
Thanks bro!
klamstwo!!! Im have DAVINCI Resolve 19 no MKV Support. Only sounds loads from video. I have 2000 videos in MKV and my camera use MTS, more than 500 videos. I cannot ENCODE ALL VIDEO and DROP DOWN all quality of video for those program.
Sorry to say this is a bit of a dumb idear. Dont re-encode the footage degrading it at the same time. Re-Mux the video into another container that is compatible with DaVinci.
Different method. Similar results.
Do you know if there has since been a faster way to import mkv into DaVinci without encoding in Handbrake? I just dont want to have to turn every movie file I have into an mp4 to only splice a few shots from lol. I currently have the latest DaVinci 18.5, but when I import mkv it still comes into the timeline without audio, video displays fine but no sound.
Sorry, but I’m not sure.
Hi, i tried it ,but the number all dispaly as "###" in timeline, what's wrong with this? Please help me to solve thanks.
This was so helpful, thank you so much!
I'm so glad!
if i import .mkv the file has no audio. how can i fix this? adobe media converter cant do it
I actually was able to fix a video that I couldn't get handbrake to do no matter what I tried.... In my case, I recorded a video using a capture card through OBS at 30 FPS..... Watching the recording back, I would see some stuttery frames here and there (not horrible but it bugged me)....so in the filters I turned on drop duplicate frames (which I had no clue how to do on handbrake) I thought variable did that... anyway...when I played the video back it looked SOOO much better when you havee those zoom in/out or move side to side slowly... it looked so much more smooth... funny... in 2024...I don't see some of those settings now in my version.... I see nothing about GPU settings.
and 4 years later you still helping people you're a hero
Glad to help
How do I move a clip say two or three minutes ahead instead of frame by frame which takes forever
With a clip selected in the timeline, you can type in the time you want to move it to using the num pad. Or you can press + followed by a time, like 100, and that’ll move it forward by 1 second.
thank you!
You bet!
My God why is this so hard.
It’s not anymore 😎
Amazing course! Coming back to editing after a year and needed a refresher. Learnt some more efficient workflows too. Couldn’t rate this high enough
Thank you! Glad it helped.
1:17 I don't get any yellow trim marker, just the normal red one
You need to change your trim preferences. There’s a checkbox you can tick that will enable this.
Amazing! Yet is it possible that with the latest macOs the creation of the folders is not happening anymore?
I suppose since I'm not doing it all the time, I should just figure out how to do the command line. But it does seem really useful if it's something you do all the time to buy the software.
I’m looking for an editor do u edit for others?
