David Gilmour 'Luck and Strange' Album Review

I review the 5th solo studio album from Pink Floyd singer and guitarist, David Gilmour. His first album in 9 years, I was curious to see what this record had to offer as an addition to his impressive discography (with or without the legendary Floyd)

For this Sunday's Premiere, I go through a selection of some of my favourite Post-Punk albums (including one recent discovery and an odd one out from the 'revival' era). It's an influential era of music I particularly feel an affinity with due to its often moody, vulnerable and gothic flavours.

Epic Doom Metallers Crypt Sermon return after 2019's 'The Ruins of Fading Light' with their 3rd full length release 'The Stygian Rose'. I review an album which sees the band move into slightly newer territory whilst not losing any of the strengths of their prior outings. Deeper yet more concise as a musical offering than its predecessor, 'The Stygian Rose' will take you to new towering heights!...

Cool albums. That new Oceans of slumber is so good. No Corey Feldman 😂
The far left = All the hatred, NONE of the answers. What's the END GAME for the lefties? That's what they never tell you
I really like the album. Every time I listen I like it more. The production is something you would expect from a Gilmour/ Floyd project. It sounds amazing coming out of ur speakers. It’s a more “ organic” record than his other 3 solo. It deals a lot with mortality and the passing of time. The guitar work is impeccable throughout as you would expect. I even like the cover. He even mentions it in Scattered. Standing in a stream trying to hold back the tide. Very deep and personal stuff.
The bonus track “Strong Hand” from Chvrches first album is really good if you haven’t checked it out yet
@@samkilgore2373 yeah that's a good one
Always nice to see you have uploaded a video Green man. I have had some great album recommendations from your videos. Listen to them quite a lot. 🙏
Correction: The Sear Bliss album was a late June release
Huge CHVRCHES fan. Anciients has maybe the best album art of the year.
Only recently discovered them (Chvrches) and have enjoyed all their albums (ok - one maybe a little less). Love their sound & catchiness.

Fantastic album👍
He parodies himself so much and falls so deeply into his own clichés that I am now sickened by listening to his old tracks. The lyrics mean nothing other than the emptiness of a musician without ideas or conviction. Ironically, he probably never understood the song that made him famous: "Money.
You are clueless musically.
@@therai1859 Sorry for offending your sacred cow.
@@S-dr7jx You probably know nothing about Floyd if you think the song Money made Gilmour famous. That song was one of the few good ones written by Roger Waters. Clueless troll.
@@S-dr7jx You probably know nothing about Floyd if you think the song Money made Gilmour famous. That song was one of the few good ones written by Roger Waters. Clueless troll.
This album seems to have some Christian themes to it. Tuomas must be having fits since he put his Faith in Richard Sqwakens and his gospel
What about 8 legged freaks 😅
The album itself is 41 minutes long, and that includes the 2 singles that were already released. His voice is gone. The lyrics are cringe. I personally hate the album cover. Theres all this sonic trickery they've used to try to compensate for his voice and on my high end system it sounds ( luck and ) strange. No presence and lacking texture. And compressed as hell. There's all these superficial reviews that are not taking these factors into account. Nepotism is whats driven this and all his solo albums after the first 2 are very patchy and driven by sentimentality rather than creativity. There's some nice guitar as usual. But after 3 listens I havent developed an urge to play it over and over again.....😢
@markrigg6623 Fair enough, you don't like the album. I personally think sentimentality can be part of creativity and that's fine by me. I enjoy the album and feel there was plenty here to justify my positive feeling towards it.
@thegreenman4925 Fair enough. There's definitely a place for sentimentality, but to me it feels the over arching sole driving force. It is by definition, a form of nepotism. But to be clear, my dissapointment feels like it's because of how much he hyped it up, which I feel is where he has a bit of a cognitive bias judgement wise.
@@markrigg6623I have to admit that I disagree with this point. I find the nuance and depth of the musicality of this album to be shockingly good. The many layers and very small details in almost every track create an opportunity to explore those details throughout many listenings and constantly learn something new. The music engineer did a hell of a job while both supporting Gilmore's style and challenging him to run deeper. This is Gilmour exploring the musical knowledge he has gained over 60+ years and even adding some new stuff, and he is doing it while exploring his own life, death, memories and recollections. I really hope nobody shits in you when (if?) you get to that point in your life, call you sentimental. That's harsh. Unfortunately, I think many come in with expectations for Pink Floyd sound, expecting Gilmour to always be the same and not grown and develop, and then have to deal with disappointment because David didn't do what they expected. Like type casting actors in cinema.
@Mhantrax Yeah that's fair enough mate. It's all subjective . I think what really annoyed me is how short it is and the way he talked it up.
Great review. I still have not checked this one out.
@@hectorThechilldudeonacouch I think you'll enjoy it if you like his last couple of albums

Really solid tune. Loving the Daniel Avery remix that was released along with it.
Not Of This Earth at 13.🙄Get out of here! 😂 For me it smashes Crystal planet down the stairs. Satch is one of my fav guitarist growing up. Been listening to him sins I was 12.
Awesome album
For me dark waters is by far the worst album.
@@forefather6974 interesting. I love it! Thanks for stopping by.
@@thegreenman4925 its not bad just my least favourite. I don't like very much Diana cause is more pop sounding singer and her tone is like a little girl sings. Not a bad singer but not for metal. As for the songs some are kind of boring for my taste but ofcourse overall its a good album .
Sacrifice is an absolute gem of a song, that finishes off the album so well.
@kefkaspawn79 yeah absolutely. I think it builds up so well. That last couple of minutes or so is goosebumps inducing!
Hey Green Man, which of these musical styles that start with B is your favorite: ABC Mouse, Britney Spears, Blink-182, Bullet For My Valentine, Beastie Boys, Bizaardvark, Blur, Bring Me The Horizon, Butcher Babies, Bon Jovi, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Billy Joel, Billy Idol, Boys Like Girls, Bob Marley and Barry White.

The title track is a work of pure genius. Only Lemmy could have written that
I love "Shed by Shred", but I want to know what exactly is the meaning behind the lyrics.
Opeth easily
Hey man, just Keep Talking
Tom! Invincible Shield is killer and I'm not the biggest Judas Priest fan. I’ve tried to watch Immaculate twice and I keep shutting it off. I'm bored to tears. Abigail is amazing! So fun! Rock on, my friend! 🤘🏼

Metal music this year so far... not so hot yet for me but: - Midnight - Hellish Expectations - Rotting Christ - Pro Xristou - Orden Ogan new album - Schattenfang has a new album as well -Fleshgod Apocalypse next month hype for that one too. A little late to the party here, but cool to see you talk about one of my favourite bands of all time. Even though our rankings are pretty different it is just nice to see someone appreciating the greatness of this band. I like every single album from these guys so even though something is placing pretty low doesnt mean i dislike it. My ranking looks like this: 1: Queen Of Time (2018) 2: Under The Red Cloud (2015) 3: Silent Waters (2007) 4: Elegy (1996) 5: Halo (2022) 6: Eclipse (2006) 7: Skyforger (2009) 8: Tales From The Thousand Lakes (1994) 9: Circle (2013) 10: The Beginning Of Times (2011) 11: Am Universum (2001) 12: Karelian Isthmus (1992) 13: Tuonela (1999) 14: Far From The Sun (2003)
High hopes ❤
