A video showcase many of the samples used in the Zelda soundtracks, and where they came from. (Edit: It appears I have made a factual error in relation to the track African 04 104-1. Rather than coming from Zero-G Ethnic Flavors, it comes from a different library from Zero-G simply called Ethnic.) Altered States samples used in Shadow Man
Просмотров 4,7 тыс.4 года назад
I've recently purchased the Altered States Sample pack for research purposes, and coincidentally I recognized many sounds in the library from the soundtrack to the 1999 game Shadow Man. This video shows samples from the Altered States Library used in both the Shadowman OST and Shadowman Alternative Soundtrack.

Credit to Silent Hill Historical Society user VIVIsect for finding all of these. They've compiled a folder with all of these including a written list of its content's I'll leave a link below in case you want to check it out. There's more in the folder than there is here, including samples used In the more recent Silent Hill games. If you're interested in the subject of music sampling, I have an...

I've just noticed that I've done more of these In a Nutshell Videos then SolarSands has. I'd celebrate if this was an accomplishment of some form. In a Nutshell series by SolorSands ruclips.net/channel/UCR6LasBpceuYUhuLToKBzvQ

Based on the original 1998 release, but I like the remake as well. It was a pain editing this on the windows 10 photo app, but at least I have a video done. Again I must mention that the In a Nutshell video format was made by SolarSands link to his channel: ruclips.net/channel/UCR6LasBpceuYUhuLToKBzvQ

At 01:48 that Spectrasonics Liquid Grooves - SNT VC WHL sample is also in the soundtrack for Tenchu 2 in track 04 Shiren (Tora Eno Rasetsu). At 07:28 that Best Service Orchestral Colours A# Race sample is also in the soundtrack for Mutant Penguins (MS-DOS, 1996) in track 07 (CD track order).
If this video were food, I'd be devouring it. Thanks a lot for this, Rayman 1 was such a highlight in my childhood -- imagine discovering this game when you were 7 years old.
99% of all artists today use samples... the rare 1% are those out their hunting down unique sounds never heard before... which at this point may as well be damn near impossible.
Trent Reznor cooked here
How beautiful<3 thank you
reading the title I thought these would be taken from already made songs... but these are like raw RAW samples drum and bass artists used to make music with, that's how legit Yamaoka is
Silent hill 2 soundtrack is so relaxing
This video is wonderfully assembled. Bravo to the creator
4:44 sounds like a track from Revolution but I can't place it. Globox's House I think
Never imagined zelda games used samples for their songs... now I love it even more as a huge fan of Silent Hill soundtrack
This sounds very similar to a R4 Ridge Racer 4 song from the PS1.
Using samples is a separate art
That last sound is used in the goron mines, too, in Twilight Princess.
1:54 I think this sample also was used in "White Lies" from Silent Hill: Origins!
Other game composers used samples a lot. So no biggy
Puppet Ganon Second Half seems to just use that one sample outright with zero alteration
People need to remember this... Your job as a musician is to convey emotions.. by any means.
Randomly found your Lego You've Been Framed video, didn't know that 16 years later you'd still be releasing videos
Every now and then at least ^-^
Why people here are very upset? . Using samples is something common in music industry. I mean, they paid por that in some cases..
This is a reminder that the first four games, to my knowledge, generated most of their audio in real time using the consoles’ on-board sampling tech (at least on Sony hardware). Only stuff like openings FMVs and credits actually used prerecorded music.
What a splendidly specific sense of sounds.
The itty bitty sounds he had to track down. Hes so good.
I wonder if someone once played OOT and when they entered Deku Tree for the first went like "heeey... I made this !"
Well, It didn't take me long to find out that the distorted reality 1 was made by one guy, Eric Persing and that this samples CD has been used everywhere for the past 25 years so it's more than probable that it never happened.
Akira isn't a genious or anything like that. He's just a fine musician. Using samples denotes lack of creativity and skills. But it is undeniable that there is merit in recognizing good samples and knowing how to use them to create good song. Although I find it overrated, I recognize that the songs are good, but the most commendable feature is their uniqueness. But for the love of God, stop worshiping this guy blindly. He's no big deal.
People in the comments of this video saw him as a musical genius and it seems like their world ended when they discovered that he used samples. But blind adoration for a false idol still speaks louder, and they still need to seek praise even if they are emotionally hurt. These comments are ridiculous, what a sad thing to read. Before people said "Sensei Akira Yamaoka did an incredible job creating this masterpiece of music art" but now they talk "im not disappointed at all cause sampling is so fucking cool [...]" Silent Hill fans always speaking with this tone of arrogance and superiority of someone who is never losing... This kind of thinking is anti-art. They don't admire the art created by Akira Yamaoka, they like to feel superior because they worship Akira Yamaoka.
he a genius, using samples is awesome and people do it all the time.
Your kind of thinking is anti-art, dude. Plug your pretension, some of the best art in the world is made from pre-existing things cobbled together into something new.
quit talking like sephiroth dude 😭😭
Thanks for the post ! to come back to what some say, Akira Yamaoka uses samples to make his music, but the trip hop, ambient genre is essentially built like that, now everyone can use samples but managing to create something interesting and sufficiently constructive with it is not given to everyone, so to those who criticize, do as much and we'll talk about it again! and then making a full album with only new sound design is extremely long, it's not one or two projects per year that he would do but one every 2 years!
Some of these really slap
That 3b radio sounds in the beginning also plays in the first hellraiser when he shows up
They don't make them like they used to. This mystical/wonderous sound is what the late 90's/early 2000's sounded like in my head.
WOOOOH SO COOL
Fantastic graphic work and audio editing. Glad to see you back.
deeep
The sheer creativity of some people. I dabble in making music and I often hear samples and sounds and have no idea what to do with them. Meanwhile other people make absolute bangers out of seemingly random stuff.
Thats why zelda's n64 years were so unique, the sampling and music direction were so damn unique and trippy compared to what came before and after, except for TP,that ost was very memorable and weird too
8:29 cyberoptics strange van white man
4:52 When I heard this sample I thought of "Eerie" from Terraria
Distorted Reality was the secret to making darker themed soundtracks and themes in MM and TP...
Good video
This is so amazing and notable video! I wish I watched it long long time ago!.. oh, dear...
How did I even play these games this is so scary
1:49 i cant find that track anywhere mannnnnnn
These were all released for free in 2022! Get creative! 😎
How can i make
That Spectrasonics CD must have been the most valuable item in Nintendo music department fro late 90s to early 2000s
Fun fact: The Massive T sample from EastWest: Twisted Textures was also used in the song Teardrop by Massive Attack!
3:36 I'm certain that this sample was used in the Frank Henenlotter film Brain Damage in a scene where Brian experiences a weird hallucination.
this fucking ROCKS! the rayman soundtracks were always so delightfully twisted and surreal. so fucking glad to finally have a vid of them
At dinner with the creator!
