Lav bullet?
Yes. Lav bullet.
Thank you Jeff.
Thanks for watching Don! Hope you’re doing well!
@@onseteducation921 Getting better every day. I hope you are happy and having fun. I've watched many lav technique videos and yours was my favorite. Very thorough. Thank you

Yay Jeff!😁
Congratulations, Jeff! Wishing you lots of interest on this project.
Thanks Kathy! A work-in-progress! What classes would YOU be interested in?
nice video. i had the dadm 226 under the mixer - plug and forget . now using sound devices 833 with sl2 - love th video =)
Im trying to be an assistant I’ve sent a lot of emails to photographers but they don’t reply how I can approach to them, what is the best way to
Sometimes people don’t respond to email at all. It’s very easy to ignore an email. Call them on the phone. Leave a brief message that you’re an assistant and looking around for work. It’s also, as of the time of this message, a bit slow overall in the industry. Don’t give up, things will pick up. Find the other assistants in your area and reach out to them too. Often word of mouth can get you gigs. Also ask around about (or research) who the producers are as they often hire crew too. Get on their list.
How much total cost roughly is that bag with all it's contents? Curious.
With 4 channels of transmitters and IFB, about $15k. But that’s new - you can find a lot used these days. Thanks for watching!
You're way too professional with this bag AND your backup bag. Thanks for having a RUclips channel to show the way.
I have a healthy distrust of tech - so I make sure I have solutions available if things go wrong. It’s like sailing, there are limited maneuvers a boat can make - it’s how you react when something goes wrong that makes you seaworthy!
Great work!
Thank you and thanks for watching!
A 690 neg resolves equiv to a 250MP digi and I can confirm this - we use Fujifilm GFX100II and Hass 907x100c and an X2D - and having used a HassH6D 100c and also a Phase One - we often use the 690 (and a GX680) and have to re-adjust the res down for clients - one thing we sometimes do is print from the 690 - and create a digi file for printing using the 907x to copy - it the difference is staggering
Love 6x9
wow yes that was great tell me more about your antenna distribution and how that gear to the front of the bag and your ifb ?
The distro is from PSC, distributes the signal from the Betso antennas into my receivers. The IFB is a Lectro LT in B band with a battery eliminator so I can power it off my power distribution and I use RMas for receivers. I also have some Comteks if I need a an additional separate feed in which case I use my SD633 for that scenario as the MP10ii is limited with outputs.
What easy rig are you using? Do you like it?
It’s a Flycam Flowline Master with steady arm - it’s ok. I wish I had gotten an Easyrig instead mainly because the waist strap on the Flycam is kinda thin and cheap and not as supportive as on an Easyrig.
Thanks for the video. I use the limited shift feature of my Nikkor 28mm f/4 PC lens mounted on my full-frame cameras to control perspective. When I need to control the depth-of-field by using the Scheimpflug principle to alter the plane of focus, I use a Nikon to Fuji tilt adapter to mount my Nikkor 28mm f/4 PC lens on an APS-C Fuji X body. This adapter adds a tilt feature to a lens that has a shift feature. The only disadvantage to this method is that the 28mm wide-angle lens now performs like a normal lens. If the front shift/tilt movements of my Nikon 28mm f/4 PC lens mounted on my Fuji X body with a tilt adapter does not meet my needs, I use the front and rear shift/tilt features of my 4x5 inch monorail view camera.
Does your 4x5 have a digital back? Check out the Cambo Actus series - pretty cool. Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching!
@@onseteducation921 No digital back; thanks for the recommendation.
My photo professor told us to place softbox while on the stand but this makes much more sense. No more worrying about knocking the strobe down. I'll keep note!!! Thank you!!
The reason for this is some boxes are large. Try putting a six foot tall octabank on a strobe while it’s on a stand and you’ll immediately see how clumsy it is compared to this other method. Not all photo professors have spent significant time on set.
How do you get around having the easy rig rope in front of the monitor? Just have to deal with it or is it out of the way?
Doesn’t bother me at all. Yes it’s a bit in the way but the camera is off to one side, which means I’m looking at the monitor at a somewhat oblique angle, which puts the cable off to one side of the monitor, I still cleanly see 2/3rds of the monitor. Even with all that, when I’m shooting I’m concentrating on other things and the cable fades away.
Are you doing mostly auto-focus or manual focus? I just can't get over the rope in front of the monitor. And then mounting the monitor to the left puts the balance off for the easy rig. Still trying to figure out what works best for us@@onseteducation921
Currently in film school and I will say where I am attending is pretty much intro to film, no specializing. I have learn a few things but nothing worth all the time I've spent stressed. I could have learned more by doing.
If there’s a film industry in your area, the best way in is to look into your state’s film office, hit the crew list, find who the film producers are and ask them to be a Production Assistant.
Adapting these to Sony E is the best 😁
Cool! I’ve also heard they are great on the Fuji cameras too.
Very well said!! Wish you a great time!
Thanks for watching!
Great video! And I LOVE how simple but NICE your filming setup looks like!
Thanks so much! Keeping it simple!
Sorry if this has already been answered, but why is 4exp/120 an option? I can't seem to find a practical use for this.
There used to be a film in Japan w 4exp. The reason, I speculate: this camera was real popular with tour group organizers because they could take a group pic of everyone and the large neg allowed them to see peoples faces with clarity. But having 8exp was overkill for what would be 1 image of the group. So 4exp could be bracketed and process that roll per tour group.
Beautiful Camera, like a dream from childhood... I thinking in my young years, that design and dimensions is best for cameras. But this price...
I just wish it had interchangeable lenses! But otherwise it’s fun to get back to basics with no bells or whistles and still make great images.
@@onseteducation921 Yes, interchangeable lenses for such a wonderful device would be really cool! But its cost would also increase by 2-3 times. The result would be an expensive 6x9 system with lenses. By the way, a month ago I joined the medium format first. And wanting to return to a simple analogue, I bought Kiev 6C, but it is 6x6. Of course, I dreamed of a Fuji camera like yours, or a Fuji 6x7 SLR. But everything has its time, for now it’s a high cost for me. I wish you great pictures and pleasure in your work!
Wow it really looks like you're ready to get up in that fighter jet with that bag 😬👏
Incredible, thank you 😊
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
Very informative video. Do any productions rely primarily on audio recorders with lavs on the talent with or without a wireless transmitter back to a wireless receiver in an audio bag like yours ?...or is wireless recording like your setup the defacto gold standard for every type of production all the way up to Hollywood movie sets ?
There’s no “it’s this way all the time” in audio because every show is different and has different requirements. Some productions might be framed to where you can boom most or all of it. Some might be framed where wireless lavs are what you hear all the time. Some scenes might need lav but be too far away for wireless so they record to SD card and sync with timecode. But the vast majority of modern productions now lav everyone and boom as well for as much coverage as possible. Every show is different and every scene might require a different approach. Thanks for watching!
Would love to see some street photography from this thing! Enjoyed the video
There’s definitely some other reviews out there with some street photo uses! Thanks for watching!
What about sound equipment used in a motion picture/film? Is the gear in your sound bag used in that also or does a commercial motion picture film crew film crew use different equipment ?
You “could” record a major film with a 6 or 8-channel mixer, and I’ve worked some narrative projects with this bag setup - however many mixers on feature movies use bigger machines with more options, off a cart. It’s really just a matter of how many inputs and outputs you need, and how close to set you can get. Many feature film mixers use Dante networks, antenna arrays, and mixers that have between 8 and 32 inputs that can handle 1-2 wireless booms, multiple wireless lavs, timecode, Dante, and tons of outputs to accommodate IFB, earwigs, VOG speakers, playback (musicals), and all sorts of comms and talkback for boom ops and such… basically ready for any and all sorts of situations. Usually all that runs off a cart. The benefits of Dante and antenna masts are that the cart can be much further from set. Some folks use Sound Devices 8-series or Scorpio, some use Zaxcom systems, some use Aaton Cantar. My sound bag has some gear in it that can definitely be reconfigured for that type of work - my wireless transmitters and receivers, my IFB, antennas, power distro - it’s really that I’d want a mixer with more inputs and outputs and routing options like a 688 or 888 or Scorpio in the Sound Devices systems. Thanks for watching!

Thank you!! So far so good! Moving in the right direction!
Love this/these vids Jeff. Nice work on the hustle and for sharing your hustle. The bit about employers wanting applicants to wear 20 different (very skilled professional) hats was spot on. Freelancing is tricky, but sometimes is better than being squashed by the mechanics of a “day job”. Hope you are having some fun in your new town!
Thanks Andy! I suppose this is the only world I’m finding some success. Keepin on with the keepin on! Thanks for watching my friend.
Neat. I love my GSW690 II! Such neat cameras and so much fun to use. With my viewfinder app for exposure, that is.
Totally agree! Haha good thinking with the app. I use a small spot meter. Use what you got!
I have the Fuji GSW690iii and the GSW670iii that I carry in a backpack, along with a Sekonic light meter and a few filters. The backpack is reasonably light and easy to carry. I mostly shoot b&w film in both. I have had the 690 since 2002 and love it!, Sadly, it doesn't see much use these days, but it is a joy to use when I do. Thanks for your review!
Thanks for watching! Yeah there’s just something fun about the bare-bones nature of these cameras. Back to basics and high image quality. Not for all shooting scenarios but does great with what it’s best for. Cheers!
Btw if you use bulb mode the shutter stays open until you start to wind the camera. It doesn’t close if you press the shutter. This quirk can ruin your exposer and cause exposer streaks. So you have to basically cover the front of the lens to stop the exposure then start to wind the shutter
Oddly I’ve been looking into Pentax but I’ve absolutely fallen in love with the look of this beast! And it seems to have many upsides
YOU CAN PUT MORE LENSES WITH DIFFERENT FOCALS
It’s a fixed lens camera.
Thanks for sharing your setup. That's a nice bag! I'm curious about your antenna distribution setup. I noticed you have the B-A sma connections looped on your Lectros. How well does that work for you? And follow up, if that's working, leaving only two open sma for antennas, what roll does the distro play?
I have found the distro does give me stronger reception with less drops and more range. Maybe another 30% range. The trade-off is the cumbersome antenna paddles and cabling and extra drain on battery as it is powered. So, it depends on the gig and what distance situations you might be faced with. Arguably this distro is better for a set-up with more RX than I have in this bag, as the distro itself is bulky and hard to really hide on/in the bag, and has multiple sma for many RXs. I’d say it’s more-suited to narrative scenarios than run-and-gun only because of the squirrelly nature of run-and-gun doc-style shoots. But I have used them on doc-style shoots and just have to be quick to move them around and out of the way in tight quarters situations. The distro allows me to have multiple receivers receiving off the two of batwing antenna instead of multiple whip antennas, that’s its main purpose. It is powered and for sure powered on it gives a more robust connection to my TXs. But using just whips is much lighter, much freer, and less battery drain. Hope that answers your question!?
Tremendous video! Thank you for the simple straight forward explanation. Very easy to understand.
Thank you for watching! Glad you found it informative!
Really good video. Very clear and precise. Have you ever tried the URSA foamies? They are my main go-to solution from drama to current affairs. You can use them in conjunction with the rycote O ring and an URSA under/ overcover to eliminate wind noise without compromising audio quality.
The foamies always seemed a bit bulky for inbetween the placket of a button-up shirt to me. I can see how using them with a safety pin taped on to attach to a shirt for like a sweaty athlete where adhesive will get damp could be useful but I haven’t made too much use of the foamies besides as spacers on my Tx antennaes. Maybe I’ll give them another look. I’ve def had great luck with Ursa mini mounts and Bubblebee mounts and the over cover/fur sandwich. Thanks for watching!
@onseteducation921 I have had great results with them. A lot of the freelance sound mixers here (in Ireland) would use them. Great for polo shirts, scarves, and winter wool coats. I find that with the Bubblebee Mount, you can run into problems with men that have "business" shirts that are tight fitting and aren't 100% cotton. Any movement from the contributor will cause you severe problems. As does stubble rubbing on the collar of a man's shirt/ puffa/leather jacket! I always try and use an overhead boom for interviews.
For sure - which is why the Ursa mini mount with my own added paperclip extension - or the overcover-fur-sandwich are my two go-to low-profile methods. I've also had great luck using the sandwich in scarves as the fur keeps the fabric away from the capsule. I always use a boom, unless the framing is too wide. I'll do some ursa foam tests soon!
Good setup. I have been using a Mixpre10 for the last 2 years, and its great for about 90% of the jobs I do.
Agreed. Most of my gigs could be done with the MP10ii -- however, some time after this video's creation I picked up a used SD633 and while it has less inputs, it has a lot more flexibility and capabilities as well as the dual-card write, which gives me a lot less anxiety with data loss than the MP10's single-SD write and USB backup write. The 633 has become my preferred machine for most doc, sit-down, and low-input count programs. At some point I'll step up to the 8-series... in time... Thanks for watching!
A few months ago I saw a short doc film that I absolutely loved. It was exactly the kind of work I hope to do one day. I looked up who the cinematographer was, found their website, and sent an email purely to say "Hey, I saw your project, and I really love what you did. Looking forward to seeing more of your work." They are based in NYC, and I ended up being able to connect with them in person for coffee when I was in town a few weeks later. There's no prospects for work on the horizon from this connection, but I was pretty blown away and super grateful that a very successful DP was willing to take the time to chat with a total rando off the internet and share their insights. And it's turned into a helpful occasional email correspondence! Have definitely come to appreciate the old adage "The worst someone can say is no." And have also come to appreciate just being a human first, and connecting on that level.
Great share! And great to have a meeting with someone doing what it is you want to be doing. Grateful when other pros want to network a bit with all levels of colleagues. Thanks for the comment!
I own the 24mm canon, nice lens, I need to use it, it's only been mounted three times soooo it's pretty much brand new, but 8 yrs old... thanks for this video
The 24mm is one of my favorite lenses. I’ve shot a lot of architecture with it. I would even use it with the teleextender to get a ~35mm TSE. Good stuff! Thanks for watching!
