    Hi Guy. This is the route we went. But not nearly as hefty as this idea of yours. Used 45mm Iroko and made up about half your length then sandwiched it between two layers of ply effectively trapping in the stringer. I hope this will handle the up and downward loads that you anticipate.. Thanks for sharing your progress videos again, cheers Grant

      Cheers mate, i am sure if you've done it as thorough as the rest of your work it will be fine. Ive over built it like most things and over complicate it, my main concern was being able to do a thorough job in the restricted area ( had visions of wet epoxy stuck everywhere it shouldn't be :) and no access below.Cheers.Guy

    Nice solution. Looks quite beefy from here. We have gone with your original plan (ala Lucky fish) but have the benefit of including it in the build before the hull plates went on. That video has yet to be edited.

    Another impressive belt and braces proper job. Funny I have just removed my front beam (it was massive, ugly and very heavy) filled in the half moon and installed 7mm wire across the bows instead. So far there's been no noticeable negagatives as far as sailing performance goes. If indeed the bows can now move towards each other more readily and cause momentary slackening of the forestay, Its kind of a drop in the ocean in terms of loss of perfomance with a Wharram. One thing the spar was good for that i miss though is that when Med mooring with the bows into the dock to keep the vulnerable rudders away from the concrete, is a place to land the passarelle.

    • @fromgumtreestoblueseas3349
      @fromgumtreestoblueseas3349 2 месяца назад

      Thanks for the input, if it doesn't add much to the weight i don't mind beefing things up on structural areas. I never really thought about the slackening of the fore-stay, interesting(i never actually sailed it prior to haul out :). Med stile mooring access will be handy. the biggest motivator will be the inclusion of a furling Genoa up forward and possibly a sprit pole? I'm wanting to be able to sail it single handed (not solo).Cheers

    Great video with lots of useful detail. My mast case only exists on paper and computer so far, so I may well steal some of your ideas, the sampson post for example. I am planning to go for double bow rollers too. I'm interested in your idea for stowing the anchor chain under the deck as I have been concerned that stowing the chain in the mast box would cause problems with the windlass due to lack of a vertical drop for the chain. I look forward to seeing your chain stowage when you get to that. I've been a bit worried my beefed-up mastbox design might be too heavy. How much does yours weigh do you think? Will it be easy enough to manhandle into position on the beams or will you need a chain hoist arrangement or similar? Keep up the good work!

    • @fromgumtreestoblueseas3349
      @fromgumtreestoblueseas3349 3 месяца назад

      Thanks for watching the video, ill do another one after painting in a couple of weeks with the windlass and rollers in position. The chain stowage will operate similar to the engine sleds, this will keep most of the chain and spare anchor weight next to the mast beam. As for weight it currently can be maneuvered by 2 people. Thanks Paul, The original design, location and placement would be fine however most upgrades i do are are if the previous arrangements have been lacking, either from use, neglect or abuse. With the planned adequately sized chain 10mm and vulcan 20kg or 25kg im hoping to rest a little easier at anchor.Cheers

      I intend on using a Jordan Series Drogue, to stop the boat (Rudders will be locked). from my understanding the bridle will exit the points at 13deg to the center-line of the hulls.As the vessel moves one bridle leg will slacken on the side approaching a rudder(assuming no tension no chafe?) and the other leg will take load and reline the vessel.Cheers

    Hi Guy. Great to see you are still chipping away at it. Curious to understand why you've just coved the upper sides of the stringers. Is it a moisture/condensation thing? She's looking good. Editing videos is time consuming..

    • @fromgumtreestoblueseas3349
      @fromgumtreestoblueseas3349 3 месяца назад

      Yea i wanted to prevent a place for moisture/debris to sit, the cove joint at the upper and lower hull chine on the interior fore and aft cabins are concave this presents the leading edge of the plywood as an out side edge which is prone to being abraded. By filling and then rounding the edge the paint will sit on this corner much better and prevents it being a wear edge. Its only in these spots, i can only imagine that the original builder was just light on filler for that day. You can see it in the previous videos. i have gone over the full interior and given as large as possible rounding to ALL edges and re-epoxied them. I didn't edit that video, just recorded and straight upload to RUclips. That is pretty much what im going to try to do for the moment. I may do a bit of editing later using there editing platform later when i gain more time and confidence. Cheers

The vessel is over 20 years old and required attention to ensure it will last another 20+. The interior could have been left however, as i have the vessel readily available to work on in my spare time, and with the amount of attention too detail going on the exterior components of the vessel it will not be much extra to tidy the interior as well. Have watched a few of your adventures and find your spirit of and for adventure inspiring. Cheers Guy

    Good day I was very near to making an offer on a 42 Phahi. I was blessed to spend a day and one night aboard this magnificent boat. I have for many years been a huge fan of Wharram cats, and firmly believed I would live on one. The one and only problem I have is my wife has had two hip replacements and the idea of climbing up and down the hull entry ladders did not sit well with her. May I ask how you guys are managing this and have you any ideas and plans to make it easier. Or are you fine with it. Kind regards John

    • @fromgumtreestoblueseas3349
      @fromgumtreestoblueseas3349 2 года назад

      Hi John, this is the Wife here (Chelle), As we age there are definitely allowances that are needed. The Tiki had a ladder type set up and the spacings where uncomfortable for Guy so he has made them into steps, and he will put handrails on them that slide up so that as you come out of the Hull you can pull yourself up. I have a dicky hip, no replacement yet, however, I have a tendon issue that plays up from time to time. I know it is going to hurt and I manage the pain. I cannot comment on a replacement as I am not there yet so I don't understand the restrictions or pain, I just know that being wood, the Wharram can be modified. Guy will make sure that we have all the supports, spacings and comforts that we need so that we can sail for as long as we wish. On another note, we stayed on Moves a Foot for a week to see how I felt about it, going up and down to prepare food, go to the toilet etc. I found that I worked around going up and down a lot, I had a tray that I would prepare and throw up to Guy to reduce the up and down, I loved being on deck and only went below when I had to. Guy and I have a different relationship with sailing from each other and I will go on some trips but not all. I am happy for him to have his dream and me to watch the chickens and water the garden :) I am happy to chat any time.

    It would be great to hear how the project is going. You're doing what I dream of doing with one of my dream boats

    Just got a new subscriber. I just found your channel. I’m planning on building a Tiki 38 myself so I’m looking forward to seeing how the rest of your build goes. I might even find an idea or two to barrow.

    Rather than a pole up from the table, how 'bout a line.

      A bit harder to dance on a line, the pedestal leg is in and looking good will have updates soon.

    Your full lid idea will be best. If you put the dish drain on it there's little chance it can leak onto the motor as long as it resets upon the lip of the counters. Great idea.

    Yeah; it seems like he set you up on the counter tops. You should have picked the ugliest one he offered, just to see his reaction.
