Sycamore Canyon Mixed Surface Gravel Ride - Point Mugu State Park
When I was in Ventura County in the Spring of 2023 I did a great ride through Point Mugu State Park that I regretted not filming. While back there this spring I made sure to film it. You can ride from Newbury Park to the beach at Sycamore Cove, which was my plan, but debris and high water from winter rains changed the plans. It is still a beautiful sunny spring ride though the natural terrain of coastal California, and leaves room to shoot another video of the beach section! Hope you enjoy!

Santa Barbara to Ventura full bike ride
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.3 месяца назад
Ever since I posted a video last year of my May 2023 ride from Ventura north to Santa Barbara I have wanted to make a better version of it. I had battery issues and once I reached Carpinteria I only was also to include a few clips shot on my iPhone, and the section through Summerland, Montecito and into Santa Barbara is some of the most scenic of the entire ride. This year, I travelled back to ...
Sandy River Greenway Trail Extensions in Troutdale

I drove out to Troutdale, OR to do a mixed-surface ride and check out new paved extensions to the Sandy River Greenway Trail/40 Mile Loop, now also named as the Ch'ak Ch'ak Trail (a native Chinuk Wawa term for Bald Eagle). This enables a smooth, car free way to get from Blue Lake Park to the Interstate 84 crossing of the Sandy River, removing the need to ride on busy arterial roads like Marine ...

    @jharris-pdxrides Jason, do you know if there are plans to extend the Rincon path to include the section that now requires the rider to enter the freeway at Bates road? Also, how do you learn about future trail extension plans (such as this one.), in general? Would I usually need to inquire with the municipalities' transportation department, or ?

    • @jharris-pdxrides
      @jharris-pdxrides 11 дней назад

      Yep, there are well developed plans to extend the trail between the end of Carpinteria Ave and the current start of the trail at Bates road. This would bypass both the Bates/Rincon Hill climb route and the freeway ramps route. I do not know if an alternative has been decided on yet, or if it has received funding/construction plan. But here it is on the City of Carpinteria website: tinyurl.com/yd9hz7ua Generally the county/city websites planning or transportations office pages are the best place to search for planning docs. I think I found the one above just Googling it.

    I live in Carpinteria and have been biking this area for the past 4 decades. It was great to view it from the camera’s perspective and not worry when going past driveways and such. In all that time, I’ve only had about a half-dozen close calls and all but 2 were caused by clueless pick-up truck drivers. (The other 2 were due to elderly tourists driving big rented motorhomes.) Thanks for an enjoyable video !

      @@jharris-pdxrides Thanks Jason, its now officially "had" as we just got home. Your video was so spot-on and I'm stoked we found it.... My wife and I are in our mid 60's and I used to windsurf/kiteboard C-street but we never thought about riding the path until we saw your film! Stayed at Pierpont Inn as we have before, and made it to Rincon and back before sunset. SO MUCH FUN! That coastline is raw and pristine like San Onofre where we also ride. We are on 2000w scooters, but we got mad-respect for all the bicyclers riding into that wind!! Thanks again for the inspiration, we are going to come back in a few weeks and do it again! Happy rides, Jason! Kai.

      I really love the video. Thank you very much, but I'm gonna tell you something. You need to be careful even if it's just a 1/2 mile on that freeway at 1 hour and 50 minutes extremely extremely. Yes, you heard me say that several times very dangerous. I've heard of people getting rear-ended at 70 or 80 miles an hour, and on a bicycle. You're gonna meet the stars real quick. Please don't do that next time you can go around that section. I thought you guys already knew that. Anyway, great video and the pickup truck guy in the white truck was an absolute idiot😊

    • @jharris-pdxrides

      The gravel/dirt sections are pretty tame, though there is some loose sand and gravel in spots. The recorded ride was done on a gravel bike with 38mm Specialized Pathfinder Pro tires. It is virtually flat, so an ebike is a nice option but not needed for any tough sections FYI.
