Great video, what is the CFM of that compressor for dry spinning the 8D?

Did you use T45 transmission?
Just got a 93 do I really need to use clutch everytime when shifting
@@CreedManess if you're good at floating gears then no. Depends on driving skill and transmission condition.
If you don't want to put additional wear on your synchronizers, I would recommend using the clutch.
Nice, just note that by adding the larger pulley you slowed down the alternator revolutions. This is why your charge is so low. low 13's when that alternator should be charging at low 14's. Otherwise...good job!
TRY FINDING THIS VIDEO SOMEWHERE ELSE. EVERY OTHER SITE I VISITED ONLY EXPLAINS A ONE WIRE ALTERNATOR CONVERSION. WITH THIS VIDEO YOU CAN JUST SOURCE A THREE WIRE ALTERNATOR IN THE BARN OR AT THE WRECKING YARD. ALSO USEFUL TIPS ON HOW TO ATTACH THE ALTERNATOR TO THE BLOCK USING WHAT LIES AT HAND IN YOUR USED PARTS BOX. A REAL MONEY SAVER, WELL THOUGHT OUT AND VERY WELL PRESENTED. JUST WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED FOR MY 1953 FORD NAA(JUBILEE) TRACTOR. THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO PUT THIS EXCELLENT PRESENTATION TOGETHER & GOOD LUCK GOING FORWARD.
Great straight to the point video. Very helpful. Thanks for making this video
I like your thinking on the whole conversion. Especially useing the two taped pair of holes you used to bolt down the accel. linkage. One not so like...the motor is form here...which makes it 300 Cubic Inches. The foreign jibberish #'s...that is for foreigners. Why spoil your otherwise excellrnt vid ??
@@petersipp5247 these engines are referred to by both 4.9 litre and 300 cubic inch. I just included both. You'll find earlier 80's and the 70's models were called 300's but from the mid 80's onward through the end of the run even Ford themselves seems to call them 4.9's. Yes Ford is an American manufacturer but let's face it. They have been using metric hardware for nearly 40 years now in one application or another. Whether we like it or not, the days of a vehicle being developed, assembled and distributed in the same country are pretty much gone.

Nice job, is your coil 1.5 Ohms across the top posts ?
@@jimmoravec1326 no clue. The tractor has been sold for a couple of years now.
@@junkinjames6345 Just curious, I heard if your 12 volt coil is 1.3-1.5 Ohms you don’t need a external resistor
Where would one look to get a hold of a 12 volt coil on the cheep side/ what was yours off of?
Thanks for the information, do you have a source for the thick gasket. I can only find a thinner felt gasket.
Everything was good with this video. UNTIL I realized I have a shifter cable still attached to end of column. This video is for standard transmission. Just be aware.
Do you know if the transmission is the M5OD or the ZF5. Considering swapping my 85 f150
This was the m50d but I have swapped the zf5 into a short bed f150 of the same vintage.
Was the process mostly the same or are there some differences to look out for. I was thinking about the Mazda tranny but I’d rather have a stronger ZF5.
@@gamer-gaming-chair8198 the only issue I ran into with the zf5 was the clearance between it and the forward gas tank on my short bed. The speedometer cable interfered and caused It to flex at an extreme angle. It failed shortly o After. I routed a new cable differently and it held up fine afterwards. Otherwise the same process. Redrill holes for the cross member, connect the clutch. Out the shifter in and figure out driveshafts.
@@junkinjames6345 thanks, I might swap it one day, but till then it’ll do
Great explanation
That big bumper to small bumper modification was sheer genius! Now I know what to do if I end up buying a big bumper car. Mavericks are hard to find here in Mississippi.
I have an old Dixon and I love it!
Hi ? The connection it will fit in can be from automatic transmission to standard
This actually helped a lot I'm doing a tilt column swap on my 94 f150 tomorrow
Doing this on my Ranger currently!
Did you not need to install a resistor to keep from burning up the points?
Depends on your coil. Some are internally resisted. Others are externally. Have to read the coil to find out. But technically the higher voltage will shorten the life of them but I've used them for countless hours this way and haven't had an issue. Same with the starter. Won't last forever on 12 volts but will last many years none the less
I would like to see the EFI intake with a carburetor on the dyno top please. That EFI intake has great looking long runners. Ought to make great midrange,.
Used to do that years ago in Wichita, KS when I worked for TWA. We had to tow aircraft on and off the single gate we had, often. I would motor the engine on the DC-9's we'd get in to scare the hell out of my coworkers thinking I was going to light it off. LOL
that was a lot of help thanks 👊
Still using that carb? I just got mine today hoping it will last till i fix my holley 4412
Yep, still running the cheap 2 barrel
That’s typical restoration project here in the UK wish it was mine
Good video, but in my days during dry runs, or full start, N2 would be monitored, instead of N1, as N2 is what the started turns, while N1 up to that is just going along for the ride. Hopefully that airplane is still airworthy and flying.
It's been used for training and unairworthy since the late 1990's. Thanks for the info. I was never trained on turbine engines and was more or less self taught on this process through reading the manuals and help from several people who had done it before
Do you need a frame? I got one, just let me know
What bulb are you using for a charging indicator lamp? You need about 1 amp to excite the alternator.
Just a random light I had in a bucket of scrap wiring. Did the job
Me looking for my tilt switch for two years…. 😑

Where coil wires go
Hi, the video shows where to put the coil wires. You'll have one coleing from the battery to the coil and one coming from the coil to your points to open and close the contelact. If you currently have a positive ground system and are swapping to negative ground, simply swap the wires on the positive and negative studs of the coil. Positive being battery power and negative being the points on a 12volt negative earth system.
I see a 60s style Altered build there, with a 16 71 blower, injection atop a ZZ632 Chevy, Lenco, tube frame, FAB9 rear end and so forth.
May I suggest, a heat shield between the exhaust manifold and gas tank. I'm sure it does some good, noticed one that almost looks factory made in another video. But heat is not a friend of gasoline. Enjoying my TO 30 in NE Ohio for over thirty years now. Thee, best investment of my life. Sporting a front bumper fabricated somewhere between 1992 and 2002. A twelve volt system and last year, had to put a clutch in. Running the same tires that where on it when I got it.
Sir, I like your front brush guard and ball mount. Had one on a buddies tractor, and had two made for me and another buddies tractor. Mine being a TO 30, and my other buddie, I believe is a TO20. What a life savor for any tractor.
My to 30 has the same front bumper with ball. But I have never used it in the couple years I have owned the ferguson. What do you use it for? Just backing trailers easy? I have a 3 point receiver mount so I can back to a trailer and just pick it up quick. I guess the front ball would be useful for tieing rope or chains to foe pulling also.
Hi! Ist she still airworthy?
Unfortunately no. However a new group of students has been investing a lot of time and money getting it as close as possible to an airworthy aircraft again.
Good walk through. If buying an alternator, look for the "mini hotrod' Denso model since it tucks in the engine bay better. Some of the GM truck big alternators and bracket/belt situation puts the alternator case out where the steering arm will bang/break the case when going through rough terrain.
Did you ever get the motor running again? Part 2 still pending?
Unfortunately no. A family member was restoring a similar Willy's. I ended up selling the jeep to them To help finish their project. Willy's parts have become scare locally. I never ended up finding what I needed available to move on. Once the restoration is done I may see about getting just the engine back to see about following through with getting it running
awesome didnt see the valves moven tho
I have an Oliver 550 taht was converted prior to me buying it. The coil is hooked up on the coil + to the distributor. Should I look at switching it around?
Id say if it's running how it is I wouldnt mess with it. Unless the wiring is a mess and needs repaired or you are having no start issues.
@@junkinjames6345 thanks man. My most recent problem is it will run for a few minutes and then cut off. No spark for a few minutes and then start and run for 2-3 minutes.
@@TruthJockey after some online research go ahead and swap those leads around and see what happens. Apparently it will run either way but you'll get less effective spark if hooked up backwards and could damage the coil according to some
@@junkinjames6345 Thank you.
thank you i enjoyed.
Your memory of WD 40 being flammable is mistaken my friend. Back about the time that the Willies that you are working on was built, the Acme company was contracted by the U.S. government to develop a formula to displace water that was non corrosive, non flammable and non conductive to chase moisture from electrical fittings. That is, why by the way, you can spray it into a wet distributor cap to get the motor started. Since the compound that we all know and love was the 40th attempt to fulfill the contract, it was called WD (water displacement)40, or WD40 today. It was never designed as a penetrant or for rust repair. Isn't it nice though that that we can ridicule it for something that it was never meant to be.
If you go on wd40s website it literally says it penetrates stuck parts. Directly from the website it says ..... Although wd 40 stands for water displacement ......it contains a special blend of lubricant for anti corrosion and penetration. I hate to burst your bubble but if you look up the msds of wd40 it warms its extremely flammable. It also lists it's flash point or ignition temp as 268 degrees. Meaning. Yes it is flammable.
I just watched a video where they reseated a tire bead like you do with a can of starting fluid and a match but they used a can of WD 40. Gotta admit that I was surprised to see it is that flammable...
Wow ford and Chrysler together man you really made the worst vehicle ever 😂
