Welcome to the basement! My name is Wilson. On this channel you'll find me reviewing and giving my two cents on movies and shows. The main goal of my little corner of RUclips here is to host a place for people to talk about what they liked or didn't like about the subject matter. I'm well aware this is a crowded niche, but this one is mine and I hope you'll join in on the discussion!
When I put out a review, it's not with the intention to let you know if you should see it or not. I'm simply letting you know what I enjoyed about the content and what I did not. I WANT you to watch it and then get down in the comments section and give me your thoughts on it!
The majority of my uploads will be movies/shows from streamers like Netflix or Max or Disney etc. I will try to get to the theater for the bigger tent pole films though.

Deadpool & Wolverine - Made For Each Other.
The 3rd entry in the Deadpool series is a solid flick. Reynolds and Jackman are made for each other. It still falls victim to tired multiverse plot lines though.

The Acolyte - The Discourse Is Strong

As far as Star Wars goes, is there anything worse than The Acolyte? Not in my opinion. This is a show that doesn't contain any of the hallmarks of Star Wars, save for lightsabers. It's a heartless show.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F - Better than part 3!

The 4th entry in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise is a decent return for Axel Foley and company. Because of a very weak sub-plot involving his daughter, it doesn't reach the heights of the first 2 films. There is enough good stuff here though to make it more enjoyable than the infamous 3rd film.
The Boys Season 4 - Halfway through and halfway interested

The 4th season of the Amazon exclusive The Boys is easily the weakest entry thus far. There's still time to turn things around, but with all of the boring subplots, I have my doubts.
Under Paris - You're gonna need a BETTER boat.

Under Paris is a bit frustrating. There's some really good elements in this movie, that are some of the best a shark movie has produced in a while. Unfortunately, the movie is held back by bland, dumb characters and very inconsistent effects throughout. For fans of the genre it is still worth checking out.
The Acolyte - Scum and villainy made this show.

The first 2 episodes of the Acolyte are confirming the worst of what the trailers showcased. This show is nothing but propaganda...so far anyway. But if I'm being honest, it probably isn't going to get any better. I know it. You know it.
Tires - A refreshing change.

The new series from Netflix, Tires, written and created by Shane Gillan, is a little different than what we typically see from the streamer. While the show is certainly not perfect, it does feature some laugh out loud moments and is good enough to have me looking forward to another season.
The Fall Guy - Celebrating the stunt crew!

David Leitch's new film The Fall Guy is a self proclaimed love letter to the people that do the dirty work in movies. The film does a great job show-casing what stunt men and women go through to make movies. It's a fun movie and does some very cool things, but a very forgettable story holds this one back from being one of David's best.
Rebel Moon 2 might be worse than part 1

Zach Snyder's follow up to Rebel Moon part 1 really does feel like the 2nd half of a larger movie. Unfortunately, that means all the issues that plagued the first movie are still present and in some cases, even worse. The door is open for a 3rd movie. But maybe it's best to just start fresh with something new?
FALLOUT - REVIEW

Amazon's adaptation of popular video game Fallout is a pretty solid show. It does a great job of balancing its different tones, being playful and fun for the most part, but getting dark and serious when needed. The show is a "W" for video game adaptations.
ROAD HOUSE REVIEW

Road House compared to the original is inferior in every way. Road House as it's own movie is not good. Road House as another example to leave classic properties alone...successful.
DUNE PART 2 REVIEW

The highly anticipated sequel, while not without faults, is a great film and worth a trip to the theaters. In my opinion, the visuals and audio alone are worth the price of admission. It is a gorgeous film, held back by some inconsistent performances and an ending sure to be divisive.

The 4th season of HBO's True Detective fails to live up to the lofty standards of the series, especially compared to the first season. I didn't find it to be a bad watch, but nearly every aspect of the show, from the acting to the plot, left something to be desired. I'm already missing the old show-runners.

Netflix's new show House of Ninjas left me feeling a bit...meh. As far as ninjas go, the show does a lot of things right. But the lack of action made it feel longer than it needed to be. I hope they make a 2nd season, because the opportunity is still there to do something truly special.

With the recent passing of Carl Weathers, I wanted to do a review of what I believe is the best Rocky film...Rocky II. I'm aware that I'm in the minority with this opinion, but I stand firm in my view. I think Stallone was well aware of what made the first film great and improved on it in nearly every aspect. Apollo Creed was never better than what he was in this film.

Yeah I’m definitely mixed on it myself. Finally saw it today. I never watched the Loki show so I had to be filled in on a few things. I really don’t watch the marvel shows lol.

Great video! For me, I was intrigued by the first few episodes, but quickly lost interest, I think for a lot of fans, this show was the last straw. You're conclusion is spot on, they need to sell or completely change the whole organisation of LucasFilm!
Anakin slaughtering younglings/Tuscan raiders/dooku/separatists with sith eyes- his lightsaber didn’t turn red. OSHA with some mumbo jumbo lesbian producer made heroin does. Ok. That was nothing more than complete bullshit.
I didn't even give it a chance. Obvious ESG DEI BRIDGE bait for Blackrock to give investment funds to Disney. This movie is not made for you. It is made for the investors in Disney who want to push something.

Axel F was the name of the instrumental song in the original movie. This makes the title a nostalgic call back, like the rest of the film.

Honestly I’m not big into the shake genre outside of the first jaws and maybe a small selective group of shark movies it’s hard to find a good one. Least this has some good things about it
Well, you’re exactly right about the shark genre. Most of them are pretty terrible.

New supes aren’t much of a physical threat, I agree. Their purpose is more psychological in my opinion.

Yeah. It seems like Butcher has been sidelined this season also. Which is a problem.
@@viewsfromthebasement Have we watched the same season? Butcher has been a main plot point with his tumor and plan for Ryan, and the teasing of his superpowers is a major point of speculation. He has been anything but sidelined.
I guess not. In the season I’m watching he’s literally been sidelined from running the team. M is running things. I mentioned his lame story arch in the video.
THE SHOW IS DECADENT AND VILE.PERIOD.
I agree with the Hughie's mum plotline. Maybe there's a pay-off there which will hit later. Outside of that though, I guess I'm pretty easy to impress, as I've quite enjoyed it. I like the qanon styled satire that firecracker has brought, which hits close to real life. You nailed it with Anthony Starr though. Homelander is despicable. Horrible. Intimidating as ever, maybe even more unhinged. What a performance.
I think (hoping anyway) there will be some good things that come from Firecracker and Starlight.
I don't get how you struggle with writing when the show is only ~8 hours long . While I enjoy sage and cracker, I wish they just took our set of characters to further flesh them out. They could have done so much with how they ended season 3 (especially since 5 is going to be the last season). I don't think one person cares about hughie's mom or frenchie's lover plot.
Yeah pretty much, things have just gotten worse every season.

To answer my own question, outside of Jaws, the Shallows might be my favorite shark movie.
Anyone who thinks Rocky V is the best one, probably thinks the same about The Godfather, Part Iii. Rocky II is my favorite. I have watched it the most. It is my marathon inspiration movie. When I ran the Philadelphia Marathon in 2021, I even made my own version of Rocky II. That was a dream come true.
I really appreciate this comment. The inspiration factor is the real deal. This movie gets people motivated.

Growing up, my best friends and I worked at McKee tire in Collingwood Ontario, shout out to McKee. I can 100%say this is almost identical to how life in a small town tire shop went.
They were demons, used to treat staff like they were biblical hookers...

It’s just a solid show. I was pleasantly surprised with it.
I like it. Ghouls backstory was very lengthy.. but it tells the story.. If the story n action are alright.. cgi isn't as big for me

What's up Wilson, new subscriber here. I agree with most of your review, the acting was bad. My least favorite characters were the bar owner and the doctor. No chemistry with Jake and her throwing punches is ridiculous....I did like Jake's acting and I actually loved McGregor, just over the top and hilarious to me. Yeah obviously the tone is way different than the original awesome movie, but I still had fun watching it.
Thanks! I guess I was just surprised at how messy it was, because the director has made some really good flicks.
I liked it a lot, had no problem with the pacing as they didn't seem like fillers to me. The action was well-done but I wasn't a fan of the last episode since it turned into the usual 'invincible protagonists vs neverending supply of baddies'. Looking fwd to s2. Btw, the Fuma leadership is pretty lame since their 19th leader was just some reg-ranked dude and their 20th is a brainwashed enemy... don't they have anyone better/more senior?
In regards to Fuma leadership, if I remember correctly, I believe they are “elected” in a manner.
@@viewsfromthebasementSure, but I'm still wondering why they didn't have anyone 'better' waiting in the wings: usually the baddie is the most powerful but here the 20th was already beaten by Haru (and maybe could have also been beaten by his mom and dad). Hopefully, they can develop more characters from the Fuma side because right now it's just Gaku, an evil-looking Shu Qi and an endless/faceless supply of nobodies haha.
