How about a tiny camera in the bird box? Then we may see the viewings even if the birds don’t take up residence, if they take up residence we can watch the babies hatch! However agree with comment about making it higher and with overhang. Stoat, cat or other predator may be able to access

Hi Brian, I know how your mate feels . When I was in my late 20s early 30s I fancied the pants off one of my vets,Simon was his name. And one day I was in the car with my friend it was an old red Renault 5, my son in the back, we were driving down the HighStreet which was one way and slow traffic, as we approached the the top end and the front entrance to the vets, who should walk out, yes Simon, and at this point the car stopped due to traffic, and instead of winding down the window and saying hello, I slid down into the footwell, and to my utter horror ,Simon lent over tapped on the window and waved😂😂. Both my son and friend were just creased up, I to this day don't know why I did that, so I can sympathise. Much love from cold grey gloomy southern UK ❤

Love that you are building boxes for the birds and are conscious of the fact that they were there long before we were! Kestrels are amazing, I used to teach with one on my arm. They had been injured and were non releasable back into the wild because of their injuries, so they were used for education. It was one of my best jobs ever! Made every day going to work a joy! 😊

Good man! making kestrels a safe/r habitat...I loved watching fledgling kestrels for years, in my garden in East Clare. Moved to the sea in West Clare, mourning the loss, only, of not getting to watch kestrels any more (hardly a tree here, all farm land) anyway, lo and behold I have hunting, hovering, kestrels right outside my window, daily. Surprised and feeling privileged beyond measure.

Hi Brian , Add an outside shelve to the bird box, this stops the fledging's falling out :) # Vinnie Jones in the Countryside , taught me that one, they had same problem with Barn Owls , Take Care 🦉

You probably already know this but where I am from birds leave a lot of droppings. Consider putting the box where you don’t mind a few droppings.

Really love the fact you care for the birds. When making a bird box there are great tips online on the appropriate sizes and positioning of boxes. If they face south for example boxes become too hot for chicks to survive. Owl boxes need a ledge in front of them. It really is worth taking a look.

Between you and me, Dollar Store brushes are pretty good for many jobs ( including painting) and rather than flushing gallons of contaminated water into the environment or using nasty solvent that costs more than a good brush to get them clean, I just let my brushes dry up and then throw them away.
