@markvos8706 Hi Mark kefir is a mild acid and as such can react with metal. Stainless steel is fine, l personality just use a wooden box feeder with a piece of plastic guttering in the bottom to hold the kefir and corn as it's easy to wipe clean and doesn’t soak in like it does with wood. @neilkershaw5348 Hi Neil predominantly yes hens and cocks are together. As I only have a small loft 10x8 6x8 for oldbirds and 4x8 for youngbirds. In 2025 I hope to fly aprox 3 inland races to 200 ish for training, then 3 or 4 chanel race's from 350 to 800 if all goes well. Regards Dave

@StephenGlencross-yg4nt Yes you are right again about not having any money but then I always cut my cloth accordingly. I only have a 10x 8 loft and keep 30 ish old and youngbirds and race about 5 race's a season. I don't race or train youngbirds just open hole then 1st race 120/130 miles 200 then the chanel as yearlings upto 500. The chanel race's is what I focus on I just use inland to get them fit. It keeps me happy just being able to still race and be part of our wonderful sport. Regards Dave

@nathanroberts6356 I agree with your sentiment,but it doesn't have to be like this. A lot of the decline is, in my opinion, down to knowledge and the adoption of modern practices without understanding the effect and cause of their actions. Fortunately or otherwise, I have lived long enough to witness both previously before the sport was the way it is now, and I still race my bird’s today. I can only do this by understanding what it was like before and after trying the modern practices returning to the old ways. Which I must admit the sport has become more pleasurable and enjoyable again. I hope that other fanciers can come to this realisation, and although I do understand with the restraints of modern life the sport will never reach the dizzy heights it did previously. Regards Dave

Hi Tony thank you for your kind comment. I actually thought that people wouldn't want to see my little back garden scratch built loft and birds. Everyone nowadays seems to want lofts that are more palatial than some houses I've lived in ha ha. But judging by the response to this little video people obviously do so I will endeavour to make some more. To be truthfull Dave I've kept every bird under the sun from a kid but loved pigeons but never allowed to keep them. It's great to see a small set up find it a bit more personal to you so look forward to all your hints and tips with the birds mate 👍

@tonypeters9763 That’s a shame I suppose I'm lucky my family have had pigeons since my great granddad but sadly none of the new generation don't seem interested so the family tradition will probably end with me. Shame really. I've just been involved in a film recording over the last 3 years for posterity what racing pigeons is all about as it's much more than just keeping them there’s the community, mental health, camaraderie etc. The film is called HOME produced by Nova Mundi Studios there’s a trailer on their website you may like hopefully the full film will be released soon 👍 Regards Dave

Hi Brian I obviously totally agree. I use kefir myself on my bird’s, dog and now my daughter uses it successfully to improve her horses thus saving a small fortune on vet bills. I find pigeon fanciers like to pay money on products that at best do nothing. I saw one advertisement for one the other day saying it contained short chain fatty acids which I had just listened to one of the words top professor answering a question on them. He said that it would be great if humans had learnt to take fatty acids orally but at present it's impossible as they are destroyed in the stomach process and its the bacteria gut that make them. Still there was a picture of a pigeon on the tub and it was only £15 ! Regards Dave

Hi Glenny totally agree Money or the nessassary evil as I call it is a big problem only if though you buy into that dream. Vaccinations another nessassary evil when you look in detail into the immune system and Vaccinations if you keep giving the same stimulant to the immune system it actually dials down the immune system and we have to give the same one annually so that doesn't make sense.
