Giving New Life to a Tailor-Made Waistcoat

In this video, I'll be showing the restoration process for a gorgeous antique men's waistcoat originally custom made in 2012. My friend was ready to discard it but I saw potential to carefully restore this...

I have been really struggling on this one but the details you provide really made the difference! Thank you!
You are very welcome
Pity it's the wrong way round, but the video is really helpful. Thanks!
Thank you so much for filming this tutorial, I have one of these and it’s been driving me crazy trying to work out how to use it🤦🏽♀️
I'm glad it's been useful. I plan to record a few more so make sure you subscribe!
Brilliant, I’ll look forward to seeing them. Thanks 🤩
Thank you because omg I was having trouble
Hi Lucy. It's Shirley. I'm on my daughters laptop. Unlike you I prefer to start and finish one project at a time, even if it takes me a while. Having said that I have lots of projects that I would like to start, so maybe I should take a leaf out of your book and just get going on them. I hope you get all your WIPs finished. In fact I know you will because you are such a work horse. xx
Aw bless ya x
Any tips for making the legs a bit narrower?
thanks ive just made my 1st pair after watching your video
I suggest people watch the Any Lynne video. Way better.
Thanks for the recommendation
and how would I do this with scissors?
All right, since you asked, I personally think that maybe you should consider hacking one of the dress patterns you've already got. You know they fit, that's good, you know you like them, but maybe with a bit of a change. They even sell add on packs, if you think that would help. There's pictures so you can see how others have made them up. Just my opinion of course. Any way happy sewing and I hope you enjoy your new fabrics. Mrs. K.
Very useful video 👍
Hi found you will binge watch later, Carole
Thanks for the recommendation about Yarn Etc. Next time I go to Harrogate I'll try to pay them a visit. Regarding a big shawl, I'm currently knitting the Hiraeth by Flossi knits. It's actually made with DK weight and you cast on all the stitches and decrease one stitch every right side row. It's a lovely design and really good that you decrease the stitches rather than increasing them 😊
What was the video you mentioned that got you on this way of choosing what you plan to make?
What a lovely selection of knits. If you use stitch markers on your knitting to separate the cable charts you will find it much easier, as you will know if you've gone wrong straight away. X
Agreed. I think the task was just too big and overwhelming. Maybe it would have been a little easier if I used a light colour yarn?
Thank you for this very useful video. You have very pleasant voice. I'm very much of a beginner, please, how do you call that white stabilising tape you had placed on the neckline and you serge on? (Or is it called just that :D) I'm following instructions in two languages and tend to get a little confused what to purchase! Thank you and greetings from Finland.
Hi! New sub here. I really like your plans and how the fabrics match together. I don’t live far from Bungay (they call it Bungee here) and I did not know about that fabric shop so thanks for sharing 😊
❤
Just found you cause it’s gonna be the make of the year I believe. A good friend - also a vlogger like us is going to make it. I’m not a wrap dress girl but hun you’re owning that dress! I would have loved to see the collar. And I am loving it !! 🦩💖🦩💖
I love the way you've gone about this! I'm at the beginning stages of curating a sustainable me-made wardrobe and I also started with trying to find colours that would play well together and look good on me. I've subscribed so that I can follow your progress and gain some inspiration on my own journey. I'm basically starting from ground zero with my wardrobe as between a flood, medical issues and job loss, I decided to focus on wearing what I already had for sustainability, but now everything other than my more formal clothes is currently worn out past the point of repair. As you are where I hope to be in a couple years, is there any advice you would give to someone just starting out?
Hi there. Firstly, congratulations on committing to this. It's a big ask in my opinion. Keep an eye on the trends and see what's hot and what's not. Make sure the style will even suit you before you try and recreate it. But a pattern with multiple versions within it. Your pattern will then stand the test of time. Find a trousers pattern that has a timeless look. I choose the miller trousers and the Bob trousers for spring summer. Find the 1 pair of jeans that you can nail the fit of. Don't get sucked into impulse buying. Make a Pinterest board of things you like, stand back and see what colours seem to appear on repeat. If you scroll back on RUclips you will see a wardrobe I made in the same way a few years ago. 1 top I never really wore (wrong colours) and 1 top got damaged but the rest I do wear quite alot. I hope this helps a little
Thank you for the advice! That is helpful =).
Oh my gosh…. I have two dogs. Mabel and Willow. That is such a card!! They are well loved on my channel.
Really beautiful! You are a true artist! Congrats!
Thankyou so much for your kindness words
Beautiful designs and colours that go so well together. You have every right to be proud and pleased with what you have achieved. How wonderful to have your dream come true at last. Well done. Shirley
Amazing feeling x
I think they are beautiful, congratulations wishing you lots of success. I love your Elizabeth bag have made three and think your fabric would be lovely to make another. Ann .
Thankyou so much x
Oh I agree. I'd love to see that!
Theyre gorgeous 🥰 you should be so proud of yourself ❤
Thankyou, I really appreciate that x
❤❤❤WOW❤❤❤ absolutely beautiful fabric designs, stunning choice of colours, love the harmony of the different fabrics. Love Kaz 🥳🥂
Thankyou SO so much. I am so happy I could burst and hearing that you love it too means the world to me.
I work in silk chiffon and silk satin. As part of the pre-shrinking process, I starch it heavily, and iron it on the wrong side, damp, on a woolen blanket on the dining room table. Works a treat. I was fortunate to find old fashioned powdered starch at a local supermarket, but spray starch will work as well. Just more expensive. The starch rinses out in warm water when the garment is finished. Might be a little bit crisp at first, but not a problem.
It’s so hot in South Carolina USA 🇺🇸 that I wear mainly dresses in spring and summer 😂
I'd love that!
Have you made Style Arc Hope dress? One of my favorite!!!❤️
I haven't but i will go take a look. I've made a few Style Arc now
I use paper patterns too! Great choices 😊
Yay! Thank you!
That purple jumper you’ve got on suits you
Thankyou so much. This was my first 'serious' knit!
It would be super helpful if you put a picture on screen of the patterns you are referring to. For us novices! 😆
Noted! I'm so sorry x
I love how you design your projects like this, it’s so clever! Thank you for sharing. ❤
You are so welcome! Give it a go. Stops you having holes in your wardrobe
I loved this video Lucy and your jumper is stunning. And hey well done u admitting you weren't ready to tackle that pattern ATM...just out it away and I will come back to it in the future...you have to be in the right place at the right time sometimes with projects.Keep doing what you enjoy Hun .exceptional talent ❤
Thank you so much!!
I sometimes change my serger cones twice in a day and it takes me only a minute. I always make a simple knot in the threads of the two left threads and carefully pull them through and I simply rethread the left two threads (or sometimes I will use only one of them). Fast and easy and no need for an airthreader.
I agree. It's a rare day I will do all 4
Hi just come across your channel Beautiful fabric choice I will look forward to coming videos xx❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much! 😊 Stay in touch won't you x
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Lovely Jacket, would be great if a third of the screen wasn’t your logo and music is really annoying
Sorry to have annoyed you. This was actually a sequence of instagram stories taken throughout the day. I thought there was something helpful in it that i could offer people so downloaded and bolted them together. That does mean that they are portrait. Had i left the background black, people would have complained about that
Lovely curated wardrobe Lucy and colours are fab.Its an extension of your current wardrobe so easily slots in and gives u more options for mixing and matching xxx
Thanks Jeanette!
Hi great content !. Is there an online shop for the fabric you’ve shown ?
Ooh - most fabric came from a shop called Sew and So, its in Bungay

And to you too my love
Absolutley loved seeing all of your goodies, those wood turned items are just stunning, there’s something so tactile about wooden tools and spools. Can’t wait to see what you make from that Tula quilt kit 😊
I do love my wood. I have 2 shelves filled with it now! A lucky girl.
Hello, Lucy! I found you through Adam,@ Adam Sews. I’ve just subscribed, and I’m looking forward to following your channel. Thanks, and stay well! Muskoka ON 🇨🇦
Bless you, thanks so much x
Looks like this stays in portrait format all the way through, so sadly I stopped watching. Hopefully future videos will fit the RUclips format.
Yea I was quite annoyed with myself when I realised at the end of the day.
Hi, new subbie here. Just bought a serger but never used one before. Im having trouble finding the right tension for all dials in order to begin serving projects. Is 3 the most commonly used setting for the tension? I have a Janone 8933. --Virginia in NYC, USA 😊
Hi there! I always start at 3, if I move them it will normally be the loopers. I'd inch them up very slowly to 4
