I created this channel to share my love for Against the Storm and to share my knowledge about the game. I might also post XCOM 2 videos (in Legend Ironman) at some point, as it's also one of my favorite games. All feedback is appreciated.
Against the Storm - P20 Year 4 win - Very fast game with commentary
This is a let's play of a Prestige 20 game of Against the Storm, with the negative modifier "Sparkdew Crystals". Year 4 win in Coral Forest. No starvation tactics, no forsaken altar. High-level gameplay. I try to guide you by explaining my thought process and all my choices.

7:05 I decided to wait because I was hesitating between the 'cut down' and 'cleanse' options, since there are no roots nodes in the Coral Forest. Soon after, I decided to 'cleanse'.

Your videos are very insightful and well organized and your teaching style is spot on. I greatly appreciate your clear and succinct explanations as well. I would love to see a Queen's Hand playthrough at some point!
Thank you! I still have to do the Adamantine Seal first. It's the current cycle. Then I will try to do the Queen's Hand trial. :)
I had to chuckle when you said your herb garden used yellow water at arount 26:35. Really like your content!
Keep up the good work, very informative! Excited for more tutorials
Thank you! Are there any topics you’d like me to consider for a new tutorial?
@@NarcoATS Uh whatever floats your boat, maybe one about best citadel upgrades to focus on first. Or one about blightrot and how to deal with it.
Love your play style and video format! I really admire how you manage to keep track of everything
I just noticed that the background music is way too low in this video, sorry. I'll fix it in the next one.
Just found this channel today, great stuff! Relatively new to this game and I was looking for some good high-level content. I like the way you explain your choices 👌
Love watching these vids. The conventional wisdom is people recommending to wait to the beginning of year 2 to open a dangerous glade. I've seen some of your vids do that and others you open a dangerous glade immediately like this one. Can you go into more details on when you decide to open your first dangerous glade?
Thank you! Well, it depends on several factors. When I have to choose between a camp/farm and another interesting blueprint, I sometimes open a dangerous glade to see whether I should choose the camp/farm or not. This is particularly true if there’s another blueprint to choose after this one. There are cases where opening the glade right away can be beneficial. For example, in my second video, I opened a dangerous glade because I knew there was fertile soil inside and I already had a farm (an herb garden, in that case). Opening the glade allowed me to start gathering herbs in Year 1. Usually, I prefer opening a dangerous glade if I’ve chosen the Amber embarkation bonus, because it allows me to call the trader if I need resources to resolve the dangerous event. This was the case in my Coastal Grove game, for example. I bought bricks from the trader to resolve the event. There’s no definite rule, though. It really depends on the context. If I already have a lot to do in my first glade (because I got a nice complex food building right away, for instance), I would delay opening the next glade until the start of Year 2.
Good video, and impressive fast win. I am not very quick on my settlements myself. And you could have disabled auto collect from the trade routes in order not to miss on the Finder's Keepers bonus.
You're right. I never think about this. Thanks!
Oh, thank you! I've never been able to figure out why that was there, but I guess now I know.
Love your playthroughs, it's changed how i play the game. It's natural for me to focus more on accumulating resources, but in this game it all really comes down to gaining rep. Even if it's really expensive. Hope more people find your videos and give you a sub! Also year four on p20, kinda nuts 😄
Totally agree! Resolve and reputation are key in this game! I’d love for more people to find my videos too, but it can be really challenging-and a bit discouraging at times.
@@NarcoATS The key to getting more subscribers is to upload more content.
@@geraldleuven169 You're right, but I can't! I just don't have enough time to do more. But that's okay-I'm already really happy that so many people are interested in my videos!
@@NarcoATS You make great video's, another suggestion could be making more tutorials. Your resolve tutorial was really helpful. Cheers.
Great video! You can manually collect the trade routes when you find it convenient by clicking off the "Auto-collect" box in the trade route screen. That way it's easier to get good timing for the good forest mystery.
I didn't fully explain why I waited to deal with the withered tree event because I thought it would be long and tedious to explain everything. But I think I should have, so here we go! Initially, I was debating between 'cutting down' the withered tree or 'cleansing' it. I wasn’t sure if the +2 roots production was worth it in the Coral Forest, as there are no root nodes in that biome. Plus, I could have easily done the 'cleanse' option with crystallized dew instead of coats. So, I decided to wait until I could produce some purging fire for the 'cleanse' option. Then, when I discovered large stone and large reed nodes in the second dangerous glade, I realized that the +2 roots would actually be extremely beneficial, and I changed my mind. So that's why I had to deal with the blightrot cysts it induced. At 19:25 you can even see that it's crystallized dew instead of coats in the 'cleanse' option because I was ready to choose this one. I also noticed that the music volume is too low in this video. I apologize, and I'll make sure to fix it in the next one!
Very enjoyable! You make it look so easy. When I try to play like you do I feel like my head is on fire.
Sometimes my head is on fire too! I just don't talk about it in the video, haha.
Great narration. For the first withered tree dangerous event if you work it before opening the second dangerous glade then you don’t trigger any blightrot cysts

Makes sense. The other impressive thing besides the speed of the victory is how few glades had to be opened.
Over 300 hours in the game and you just tought me it’s possible to select one tree at a time. Easily the best AtS RUclipsr I’ve found. Edits for shorter videos, every decision explained.
Your videos are great, have subscribed and hoping for more 🙂 I like how you describe your reasoning
CRIMINALLY underrated channel. Quality narration, nice cuts, great gameplay! Hope to see you playing the DLC soon!
Thank you so much! Unfortunately, I don't really have the time to promote the channel. Please share it where you can! Also, I already posted one game from the DLC here: ruclips.net/video/jFJ9_DUeCro/видео.html Another one is coming next week. It will be a P20 Year 4 win with Beavers, Harpies and Frogs!
This was a very good explanation. Looking forward to the next vid!
A good basic guide, it can be difficult to understand these mechanics when you are starting out. Things get a bit more tricky on higher Prestige levels.
Yayyy thanks
Saving this for when I get back to that game. Love your content.
Hello everyone! I tried something slightly different here: just a short tutorial about Resolve and Decadence. A new game will arrive soon though. This time it will be a P20 Year 4 win with Beavers, Harpies and Frogs!
Can't wait!
start watching yeee
I've watched 4 of your videos now and I'm already implementing some of your playstyle in my own. PIPES FOR EVERYONE! And I never bothered with early resolve boosters, but it is actually super valuable if you can get a blueprint earlier and accelerate your engine. Also, small sidenote: on trade routes you point out how the sea marrow route gives you 4x the value. But you are forgetting that both your goods and amber are only worth 50% in P20. So it's not actually 4x value, but 2x (which was still a great deal ofc)
I really liked these videos, thank you for making them. I wanted to ask about a very small detail which seems really hard to Google. Where is the setting to have a single, all encompassing category of stored items shown in the top of the screen (so besides having icons for food, fuel, etc. having an icon which shows everything to the left of the season wheel on the top)?
Hey! This category doesn't show every stored item actually. It only shows the items that you want to see. In order to do that, you need to go into your main warehouse and click only on the items that you want to see at the top of the screen. Then a new category will appear!
@@NarcoATS That's great, I would have never found that. Thank you.
54:15 you can just upgrade frog houses for rainwater capacity making steam really good with frogs
You're right! I need to get used to these frogs!
On storm Y3 would have a fox hearth keeper also have lowered hostility or am I wrong? However, great video, really like the way you explain your decisions step by step!
You're right, it's a very good point! I didn't even think about this because I almost never use foxes as firekeepers. Actually I wasn't very worried about my coal because I knew that some villagers would die soon because of hearth corruption, which would decrease my hostility.
I love how you explain your thought process
In addition to just generally being good, informative and entertaining content, can I say that I just LOVE your accent? merci et continue comme ça ! (hope that's not too far off - school french is a while back lol)
Haha thanks! That's some perfect french!
1:04:00 Yeah, that ground bait thing automatically going to "optional" and not "none" is a pain. Probably better than selling them because it gives you direct resources without trade in the middle, but it's a real kick in the pants when you have an order.
Really hoping they add an option to change the default setting.
Cheers for uploading again! Very indetail with why you pick and choose certain things, handy for teaching players - so thanks! What do you think of the dlc?
Thanks! Having only played this one game and started another one, I can't really say for now. Coastal Grove seems a little more random than the other biomes (aside from Cursed Royal Woodlands...) since you can't really choose your blueprints. You can choose the type, but it's not the same as choosing between two. That's not necessarily a bad thing though, it's just different, which was the purpose I guess! It shakes things up. Also Frogs seem very good. I just don't really like the music of Coastal Grove compared with the other biomes.
My new reference for ATS. Thanks again!
209 hours in this game and I did not know you could prioritize specific materials for manufacturing. lol
Thank you! I have like 500hrs and consistently learn and improve from watching you!
I think I’ve learned more in your three videos than in many other hours watching playthroughs. I think it’s partly your precision and your explanations. They are very helpful. I also think you are so good at not overproducing. I think I build too big (too many glades, non-stop cutting). Please keep making these when your schedule allows.
Hey thank you! Glad I helped! Yeah, I don't open a lot of glades. There are different schools about this topic. Some players think you should open one dangerous glade per year, or never open small glades, but I don't follow these rules at all. Small glades can be very useful to get a geyser or some raw food, some fuel or some stone/clay, and I only open dangerous glades when I really need to. That way my hostility remains low, generally. I often finish a game at year 5 by opening only one or two dangerous glades. The important thing is resource management. That's why I stop the productions when I don't have rainwater anymore. I almost always pipe my buildings and start the production only if I have rainwater, because I want to optimize the transformation of my resources.
Glad to see you back. I'm trying to raise my Prestige and it's not going very well. Thanks for the tips and explanations.
Hey just wanted to say that I’ve watched your previous 2 videos and your insight into the game is fantastic to watch! Glad you made a frog video! It’s great to see your gameplay and explanations!
Do you ever find that it's worth it to attack traders?
I have to admit, I've never done it because I never felt the need to, and I don't want to either. Poor guys!
You explain things so well ! Now I'll be much more careful before opening glades all over the place. Hostility management was lacking for me. I should also mention food (never did Field Kitchen), the first rainwater building, and so on... No wonder I haven't finished a game at prestige 20. Great video. I learned a lot, thank you ! 🤗
Here is a new game! And of course, while watching it again, I just heard a small mistake: at some point, I say that planks are less expensive than pottery, but that's a brain fart. They have exactly the same price.
did you finished queens hand? :D
I haven't even sealed the Adamantine Seal yet! This is the cycle for the Adamantine, and then I guess I will try the Queen's Hand trial!
@@NarcoATS oh damn thats crazy ! ur the best player on yt ive seen so far cleaning p20 in 5 years constantly.. very surprising that u didnt beat adamantium yet
@@kiddynamite4559 Well it's just that I didn't try it yet. I don't have the time to play much, so my progress is very slow.
Best game, more tutorials
This is just masterful play. I would totally love to see a long series playthrough of the 1.4 content. But anything you put out I will look for. Subbed.
u rlly don't need those fancy fade transitions every time, they even make watching abit more annoying imo:)
I stopped making them. Thank you for your comment!
Good game. What are your thoughts on the field kitchen now that it doesn't make Jerky nor Porridge? For me I almost never bother building it anymore
I only played one game with the new DLC, and I used a piped Field Kitchen to make some skewers at the start. I think it's useful if you have a lot of foxes or lizards at the start. The recipe for pickled goods is still OK too.
Picked goods are always nice if you have containers, but I don't like the skewers. They don't give that much resolve and the 0 star recipe doesn't multiply your food either.
@@lChronosl93 The FK skewers recipe isn't good, but the porridge recipe wasn't very good either. Both serve the same purpose though: like the previous FK porridge recipe, FK skewers recipe can help you gain resolve early on (when you have a lot of foxes or lizards). Once the FK is piped, it can still multiply your food, even if it's quite random. While the FK skewers recipe isn't viable for the long term, I think it can be useful in the early game in some specific conditions, much like the old porridge recipe.
True, but Porridge and Jerky are able to "transform" other stuff into food, namely water and fuel. That is what I meant by multiplying. The rain engines are good but not worth the effort by themselves, at least in the early game. I would rather pipe a construction material building, for example.
Can't wait for the next episode, I keep checking every day :D
Hey thanks! The next video should be uploaded this Monday. :)
Glad to see the harpies enjoying those squirrels. Looking forward to more videos, these are nice.
Damn, I see what you mean. The 'O' sound in French can be pronounced in two different ways, and one can use both interchangeably. But that's not the case in English, so I'll try to pronounce 'Scrolls' better next time!
@@NarcoATS My mom’s side of the family immigrated from France so I’m pretty used to it lol. It’s not a problem, I just wanted to add a stupid joke for my algorithm comment :P
Great video, love the edits to speed it up as I feel there is too much filler with other channels and you keep the relevant bits with your commentary in. Learned a lot from this one, thanks!
Have you played the new update yet? Curious if the fox changes have impacted your fox-centric play style?
Hello! I haven’t had much time these past few weeks, but I’ve played one game in the Coastal Grove with Beavers, Foxes, and Frogs. I’ve started editing the video and will try to post it next Monday. In this game, I decided to start with a lot of Foxes again because the negative modifier was Ominous Presence. The update changed some things (you can’t make porridge in the Field Kitchen anymore, so the start is less straightforward) and Foxes feel less overpowered than before, but they are still very good I think. I looked at the caravans for the fourth video, and there is no Fox in any of them, so the strategy will be completely different in this one!
@@NarcoATS I have really been enjoying your videos as I learn the game. Thank you for taking the time to make them!
Great gameplay, great explanation and great editing. And absolutely funny unintentional moments : "for my ass (hearth)". I presume you are French.
Hahaha you made my day! I'll need to be more careful about the way I say "hearth". And yes I'm French! Thank you for your comment.
Seconding this! U've been mildly interested about Against the Storm for ages and this was a very neat introduction gameplay & explanation video. :)
Ive never climbed high up the prestiges because it feels like it just becomes significantly more micromanagement, but after returning for 1.4, I think I'm gonna change that. I always find it interesting how people solve problems on p20 with the added restrictions/difficulties. These videos help with that. Looking forward to seeing more!
