I created this channel to share ideas with you. To show you how to make, and fix things. How to make art. This is how I spend my free time and some of my working time anyway, so why not share it! Subscribe to the channel to see how I make anything from a painting to patching drywall.
Sometimes friends lend me a hand with projects, and it makes them go faster, or smoother. But, I'll always try to account for the time that each project takes so you can get an idea if you want to do something similar. I'm a professional artist, living in Decatur, which is a suburb of Atlanta. So, my project videos are going to be pretty diverse. Stay tuned to make stuff, make art, fix stuff, and learn!

Atlanta Crossroads Mural Festival - Adam Wellborn
A lot of work and planning went into this project. Months went into acquiring proper permission from multiple building owners and rounding up all the artists. Weeks went into getting sponsors and the art itself. Humphries and Ralph David Abernathy, southwest of the capital, are the crossroads for the art. There's quite a bit hidden on the backside of a building, so I tried to show it all in this video.

46 and 2 Tool Artwork
Просмотров 211Год назад
This is a review of my visual take on the song 46 and 2 by the band Tool. If you've had more than one dark night of the soul, you may be familiar with this music. Listen carefully, and you just might find more than just dark vocals. There is actually a proposed solution to your problem, however, it does require you to think, but not overthink. Experience is key to living in the solution. Or, at...
Branding & Identity

Do I make a living making pretty pictures? NO. Not yet anyway. I'm evolving into more fine art as time goes on, but I came from the graphic design universe and fell into the realm of web and content marketing many moons ago. I've been asked to create logos since I was a kid. Unfortunately, some of those are still around. Jeez! At least refresh the look dad! Anyway, I have a lot of fun working w...
Time-lapse Painting of My Dog

Watch me create a portrait of my little King Charles Cavalier in this time-lapse painting video. He's a tri-color, but I use way more color to convey this very sweet, and vibrant little creature. You can see me make this from the beginning all the way to the big reveal at the end.
Selfie - Self Portrait Painting in 3 Minute Time Lapse

This self-portrait took about 90 minutes to produce. I enjoyed the last portrait I did so much, I wanted to do another, but this time do it fast. So it took me my whole life, plus and hour and a half to knock this out.
Dahlias Pier Part 2 Completed Artwork Reveal

So finally, here is the second time-lapse drawing video of the commissioned artwork; "Dahlia's Pier". This took 3 months to complete the art, and a good while to make this second video. It's broken into 20 sections with tons of my mumbling and rambling about art, society, and what I think I'm doing with this art style. Also, I accidentally have two chapter 6 sections. You should have your own b...
Portrait Painting of the Boys

I was asked to paint a portrait of these two as a Christmas gift. I've been doing portrait paintings since 2007. Over time, I've developed a style mixing pop art's bold shapes and colors with the loose feel of impressionist paintings. Oil on canvas paintings can get fairly pricey. One way to lower the budget is to allow an artist, like me, to work from photographs. In this video, I show an acce...

for small sails small alum poles is fine ...but for large sails 24x24 , thousands have to be spent for structure ....that is why i went with leight weight shade cloth that allows rain and air through ....not good if you want to be outdoors in the rain but if shade is objective it is great .....and at 22 bucks for 30x24 cloth , if it lasts one season im pleased....easy up and easy down

How much room is needed between the gate and the jamb?
@@jamesa.holman2634 I left about 3/8 inch
What kind of felt should you wrap around a wooden post?
@@alexalonzo3179 I used landscaping felt, but a thick coat of paint should do it too
I was hoping for more of a how-to video, especially about mounting to a wall. Any suggestions?
I wouldn’t attach it to the wall, when the wind starts blowing it’ll rip the wall apart. Use 6x6 pressure-treated or 4 x 4 minimum size. Buy 12 footers and put 4 foot of that into the ground at a 20° angle away from the ShadeCloth.. when you put the polls in make sure each pole is 2 foot farther away from the ShadeCloth so there is a gap between the ShadeCloth and the pole so you can tighten it down. Also if you have extreme wins like a hurricane, you need to pull it down or it won’t be there when you come back out.
These all seem very thin for pipes. Coolaroo recommends 4" posts. What gives??
Hi - looks like a pretty cool gate latch. Where did you get it?
Grabbed it at Home Depot
Hey I don't know if u are going to see this but if do please help, for some reason mine draws the tracework and after its done drawing the tracework like couple seconds original image shows, which is pretty noticeable, is it supposed to happen? Thank you for your time
Oh God, yeah, it's been happening in video scribe too. It's a buggy ass program. This process worked perfectly for a really long time, but they keep making updates to the software
How do you hang the shade into the poles? Do you install anchors on the poles too?
Thanks! Coincidentally, I’m installing the exact same post latch this weekend
This is perfect!! I have a ton in my backyard and thought I would need to pay to have it removed...now I'm gonna build with it lol thank you fir the ideas.
ONCE I SEEN THE HOLE BEIN FILLED WITH THAT FOAM ,,I NEW IT WAS A WASET OF TIME ,,NEW GENERATIONG SH T

Who makes RUclips videos off other people’s RUclips videos. Annoying
How has it held up? I'm planning to do a patio like this. I'm wondering about weeds growing up through it.
Nice. This helped us allot. We mounted a tv without drilling to our post so we can bring it anytime using the ZeboZAP. We needed shade inside and this video helped use decide on the solution.
Good idea, i did the same but i used 2.5 in pvc 3 feet into the ground with a 2 3/8 in 12ft long corner post. Definitely doesnt seem like its going anywhere anytime soon. Love that you can take the poles out for the winter.
This is hard work but well done.
How do u lock the gate? What can I use
Wouldn't you want the side that you can lock on the inside of the latch?
I would keep the part where you can lock on the inside so nobody can unscrew the large part
Why did you install it upside down?
He didn't
Truly underrated video
You are a teacher by nature. Thank you very much !
interesting thanks ^^
I’m working on a similar project. Using sand and drainage gravel between the concrete blocks. Hardest part is fitting things together for me. It’s so heavy to work with. I’m a senior and over weight but it’s worth the effort.
Pro sounds like 4" diameter or larger at least Schedule 40 pipe or if square then quarter inch thick 4" or larger cemented down approximate half the length of the exposed above ground pipe length maxing out around 5 ft depth for 11 to 13ft exposed poles. That's what I was just reading. I like the PVC pipe method and am thinking using a custom pin footer so can be removed and re used later. Do the pin footer with the PVC center sleeve, so can remove the pipes and also later can remove the pipe pins of the pin footer. I don't see a video anyone doing yet with pin footers like the Handi or Diamond or other Piers.
Wondering if you use that fence post or top rail material with a piece of rebar, fiberglass or steel painted, maybe filled in with a cement mix like open source ultra high performance concrete even without the steel fibers. Thinking that'd be rock solid with an additional downward weight loading where I forgot to mention that would be better to use a pin to assure the pole never comes out of the PVC pipe footer sleeve.
Do you absolutely have to tilt buried posts ? I keep seeing tilt to 5°
I did not. Nor did most of these examples, but I can see why. The tension on the sails can pull a tall thin post 5 degrees inward pretty easily.
I want to put up a 20'x20' shade sail over my pool. Im considering going bigger on the poles, with 2 3/8" fence post and 2 1/2" pvc pipe. Does this seem like a good idea? Thanks @AdamWellborn
Sounds smart to me. Just make sure that the metal post slides into the pvc at the store to avoid mistakes. Best of luck!
@AdamWellborn There's little chance of wind blowing a pole out of a hole? I would take down if a major storm is coming of course
My pole in pole technique has a really snug fit, about two feet down. Although we don't get major wind in Atlanta, I'd think these would hold up on a Florida beach. @@MrLibertyFiend
Great idea and video. I also want easily removable poles. I want this kind of setup but to go across my pool so looking at building something similar but but more like 20' x 16' shade. I am thinking that maybe I need deeper hole, more concrete but not sure about maybe thicker poles although I can't actually imagine 1.5" galvanized steel poles bending. But I do not need it very high - maybe 6 ft above ground as I won't be walking under it. Any thoughts on this based on what you've done? Thanks
Did you end up doing this? I am planning on doing mine for my 20x20 shade sail but not sure if it will work. Worried the poles will bend
@@javierpaez6475 Not yet. I started digging the hole but having hard time with GA clay. But I mapped it all out. I abandoned the idea of fence posts and checked out metal gas piping from Home Depot. I plan on using 1" galvanized pipe which will fit snuggly into 1+1/4" galvanized pipe. So I will dig a hole maybe 3 feet deep and put in a 3' 1+1/4" pipe and that will be permanent w concrete around it. Then I simply slide in a 1" pipe into that one when I want the sun shade. Go to Home Depot or Lowes and check out the galvanized steel piping and you will see those suckers will not bend. You can always put in a 8 ft pole but start attaching it low at 5' and see how it works and move up as needed.
Great suggestion for what to use for poles! As for attaching the sail to the top of the pole, it appears that you used fence rail end caps. Did you secure those on the top of the poles with the fence tension bands that are shown in the video at 0:57 below the caps or another method?
Thank you! Your explanation was clear and it worked.
I want some tension to keep my tarp tight... am I missing something here ? Nothing looks like it will hold tension, but maybe 4×4's and that probably would be better with 6x6 Really, am I missing something ?
All I can say is what I did. Check out this video for complete details ruclips.net/video/UR5hLFw7qSM/видео.html
Thanks for this. Best wishes.
Hi. I did #3. Galvanized and pvc. How do I connect the sail to the pole. I have very high winds.
9:32 - Hang Sails and lights - ruclips.net/video/UR5hLFw7qSM/видео.html
How do you attach the grommet from the sail to the Top rail if you drop the rail in pvc? Do you drill a hole through and put a turnbuckle in there?
Toward the end of this video you can see it ruclips.net/video/UR5hLFw7qSM/видео.html
Beautiful work!!’
I guess we're going with the 6x6 posts. I want big steel posts, but I think those will cost a lot.
Those will look good. Just make sure not to pour concrete directly onto the wood.
@@AdamWellborn why? That's how they put in fence posts. How should we do it?
@@smellyrhinostudio Concrete has chemicals that decay treated wood. I use a heavy slathering of paint or wrap the ends in a heavy weed block to prevent direct contact with the cement. You'll notice proper deck builders use metal where the large uprights meet the concrete footers to prevent the corrosive damage caused when the two materials meet.
My dad was a carpenter. He told me you could bury a piece of treated lumber, dig it up a 100 years later, dry it and use it as new. HOWEVER, if that piece comes in contact with concrete, it will be damaged in a few short years.
@@AdamWellborn fascinating!
Thank you! So simple. Your explanation is perfect
I'm considering using the chain link top rail for mine. Do you see it bending at all? Mine would be attached to 6x6 treated deck posts with pipe straps.
They have not bent at all
This video is amazing! I love the visuals and the message it conveys.
Awesome!
Will this hold up on 50 mile winds? I'm in Chicago and we get wind.
Probably so. With the use of concrete 2 foot deep at installation and the best brick anchors available, this should probably hold up in 50 mph winds.
Great job!
😴 Promo>SM
curious, what does Promo>SM mean?
What if I used un treated 4x4x10 posts cemented them in then used died diesel sprayed the 4x4 posts my dad used red died diesel to treat out deck
I don't know about using untreated. I do know that concrete damages (basically rots) treated wood when they are in contact. I also have no idea about diesel - sorry.
@@AdamWellborn ok no worries the diesel is oily igues old trick apparently 😂 thanks anyway
Was very impressed before, but after seeing the video and the painstaking work that went into producing the artwork I'm absolutely amazed. Well done Adam, loved the video too, very educational.
