Hi, just a little correction…by the BD instructions. The screws should be screwed from the glue side out and plastic should on plush side. Probably to create minimal gap between skis and skin at the tip and keeps screws extra secure from screwing out. I think Black Diamond logo on that metal part misleads that it should be visible from plush side.

All good, however, on steeper terrain and for those of us who are less strong and flexible - ok, let's just say older - there is the technique of driving the uphill, kicking ski tail beneath the middle (under the foot of) the downhill, platform ski, and continuing to rotate the uphill ski as far as possible across the fall line. The two feet are then closer together, making it easier to transfer weight onto the uphill ski and lift the downhill ski off the buried tail of the uphill ski and to bring it around. Sounds odd but works well and lots of people do it this way. On seriously steep terrain there is no replacement for the downhill-facing kick turn which permits a full 180 degree turn across that steep fall-line, but of course this is less efficient.

Here's a tip. Pace yourself. That pace you're going in some shots is unlikely to be maintained for hours. Lol

Those tail clips are so mickey mouse. Since late 80s I and friends have used the webbing/fastex buckle system. Never does a skin come off by itself. Fastex buckle is attached a ways behind binding, tail of skin has 1" webbing sewn or riveted on, with male half of fastex buckle on a long enough piece of webbing to reach female part you've attached to the ski. Use short piece of webbing thru it, screwed to upper side of ski, maybe 6" behind binding.

What a wonderful set of videos you've created for a beginner like me! I'm an intermediate downhill skiier, but I was just outside in my flat suburban backyard trying out my first ever pair of backcountry skis. I sure was glad I hadn't gone to a local park/hill/trail because there were a LOT of steps that I couldn't do at first! With determination and practice I accomplished some of them, but I hoped that someone had RUclipsd these very beginning skills so I could learn the others without feeling do lost! You did that and more; thank you so very much! Now I'm looking forward to another practice day in my back yard. Who would have thought backyard skiing could be so exciting. But with the confidence inspired by your demonstrations, I can envision years of pleasure backcountry skiing! All the best to you, 69 year old alpinewal

Had my Völkl Nanuq skins for 9 or 10 years now and they're still just as good. Never done anything with them apart from always using mesh when they're not on the skis.

You keep doing things while talking about something else, and then hop in and say "btw assemble this" or do that without showing it. Bad instructional video

Thanks bud. I'll be a first timer in the backcountry this year. I've flaked through some pretty knurled pow, and everything inbetween, but I've never owned skins or tracked on my skis. Is there a skin that doesn't rely on a sticky substance?

Why do you use tele boots?

AND others say let your skis submarine,,, your not lifting and not working as hard....you tube sux everybody has diff opinion on how to it the EXPERT RIGHT WAY my way is the best....ect. NO go out and try it for the conditions....

Am I correct in assuming that to convert my downhill parabola's to do this, I need 1. new bindings, 2. new boots (and skins obviously?)? Or are my skis too heavy?

i just glue them together with each other. then none of the glue is exposed. had a old pair that i kept folded for a bit too long, and that one seperated in the fold. so now i hang mine up by the tip hook
