Incredible collection of vintage engines at the Streaky Bay ( South Australia) Powerhouse museum. It includes a Blackstone well borer which was recovered from the SA outback. The collection was put together by a bloke named Norm Jenkinson.

Me and my mate Rob ( RIP) travel to Warkworth, NSW to pick up the big Austral from Ray Keys and family. Was one of our most memorable engine trips. A few spare parts thrown in , taken from Ray's chook house.

Haven't had the big Ronny going for six months and I just don't get sick of running it. 1932 ish , 20hp , Ronaldson Brothers and Tippett. Originally saved from scrap by Ray Keys many decades ago and I got it from him.

just picked up today this 1949 vaporising cup engine. had a few issues but I roughly fixed it up enough to run without actually measuring any adjustments. I think they are 2 1/2 hp.

after tightening the governor springs and making a gravity pressure fed fuel system, it's running alot better. Just need to turn down the automatic oiler !

Im sure you’d know all about these engines.
this old beauty would shit on any of todays stand-by engines with that hit and miss fuel economy, plus the fact that it runs on kerosene which is cheaper again than diesel, in my country anyway. What a beauty, nothin made today will last as long as this old stuff.

Thank you. Made in Australia in 1933. This engine is in new condition as it was a spare engine and was not used. Is there old engines around over there ? Im coming over there in the next year or so as i study ancient lost technology.
Sell it to Jay Leno, it will be preserved, restored and last many more years.

Thanks, are you sure they were only ‘72 ? The bloke who previously had the engine researched the numbers and came up with ‘73.
i'm wrong -- '78 are also called 1400 as they were transitioning to propshaft hp ratings (it was the previous 1500). '72 was the previous 1350 (non-power ported) but with exhaust tuning.

Amazing. We had J Deere tractors from 1921 to 1948 running on petrol and power paraffin. Amazing to listen to these mechanical marvels working.

Luckily an old bloke named Ray Keys saved it from scrap back in the fifties.
My father was an engine mechanic.He used to service big engines even of the capacity 200 HP. I remember the old English engines like Lister , O B Blackstone etc.O loved my father working on them.

That is SO cool! As someone that went to school 40 years ago on compression/ignition engines, it still fascinates me to watch the start-up and run process of these venerable motors. This one kind'a reminds me of the classic war movie 'Guns Of Navarone' when 'Butcher Brown' was trying to start the old boat CI engine and had that old torch on the cylinder head trying to get that combustion chamber hot enough to fire off. Back in the day, sometimes you had to be creative to get some of the older diesels to light off! Nice video!
Hi mate, thank you for the comments. I’ll look that movie up,I have seen it but dont remember the engine you mentioned. This engine is a hot bowl or surface ignition engine . That means you have to pre heat the “ surface “ to start it and then the explosions keep it hot once running.

@@jenkodiesel5768Во временя СССР подобные дизеля были и у нас, только немного другие, в том числе и вертикальные, как потом выяснилось сделаны они были по немецкому образцу 20х или 30х годов, воду качали и тому подобное.

Not in this video but the cylinder is full of water. It still takes an hour to get hot without any load.
