Right? There wasn't any blue in the pattern 😂
I liked the themed review videos and I would really love to see more non-amigurumi videos!
Thank you!! I'll have to find more non-amigurumi patterns to try 🤞
Thank you for sharing. 😊

Thanks for watching!!
This was really interesting, Cassie. Thank you for putting all of this together! Wow! 😊 happy new year to you & Noah & your furry girl ☺️🫶🏻 xx
Thanks for watching, as always, Lisa! 🫶
As a pattern designer myself, i feel like you can't expect a free pattern to be very detailed with lots of photos- thats why its free 😅 If a designer is having to write long explanations or take lots of progress photos, then they should be paid for that time and effort. I hope that doesn't come across as rude, i just think that's why they aren't as detailed as paid for patterns. All the free patterns I've released are just super simple with minimal explanation, whereas my paid patterns all have in progress photos and explanations written in, which takes a lot of time and effort to produce 😊
I'm a pattern designer as well and for simpler patterns like these, I don't find it to be a lot of extra effort to take WIP photos and add more detail in areas of the pattern that have more complicated instructions. I'm currently working on a pattern that will be released on my Etsy only, and not for free, and there is definitely a difference in the amount of effort I'm putting into details and instructions in the pattern that I otherwise wouldn't include in a free pattern; but overall I think the bare minimum for releasing a pattern, whether it's free or not, should be having WIP photos and more detailed instructions in areas of the pattern that may cause confusion. It eliminates extra work for you later, since you won't have to answer people's questions in the comments of the pattern, and it also might make your pattern and page where you release the pattern for free more popular. So not only is it more convenient for more crocheters to understand, but you also might have more people follow your page if you're consistently putting out high-quality patterns. Hope that helps you understand why I think those things are important! Thanks for watching & leaving a comment 🫶
I also missed one of the biggest points I wanted to make (oops!): Just because I don't rate a pattern 5 stars, doesn't mean it's not a good pattern. A pattern can still be 3 stars and above and be a good pattern. The point of these videos is to rate them and provide feedback on how to get to that 5 star rating - which all my feedback goes to show that it is achievable with a little more effort. I appreciate your feedback and your point of view, I just wanted to make sure you were aware that a rating below 5 stars doesn't make these "bad" patterns. I just want the 5 star rating to reflect top-tier patterns that don't need any work to make them any better. Hope that helps ❤
Hey Cassie, have you tried the " Hix the Hippo"??? By theyarnzoo
It is so cute and easy once you figure it out!
I added it to my list of suggestions! Thank you!!
Could you do a tutorial on how to crochet directly into the head instead of doing them separately and then sewing them on? Thank you! Your channel is terrific! I always watch it as soon as it’s published.
I don't think it's appropriate for me to make a tutorial on how to adjust someone else's pattern, but there are definitely patterns out there that you can purchase that show you how to crochet directly into the head. Specifically, nooks_hooks on Instagram has a lot of no-sew patterns that utilize that technique!

My number one pet peeve is patterns that are excessively descriptive. I bought a giraffe pattern that had 19 full sheet pages, 101 photos, excessive explanations etc. I spent an hour digging through 19 pages to write an index card worth of instructions before I could begin. I understand newbies need pictures but what I need is one page with just the stitches that is easy to print and doesn’t waste printer ink. If designers could include a quick start guide that would be awesome. I would be completely overwhelmed if I was a beginner and saw 19 pages full….it would look too hard or too time consuming.
I agree but unfortunately most of the market does not right now
That's a good idea to include a quick start guide! I'm definitely going to implement that in the pattern I'm writing right now. I think the demographic of people who are picking up crochet & amigurumi is definitely changing, though; which is why designers are making accommodations in their patterns for those people. Tons of millennials and Gen-Z kiddos (but I guess they're not really kiddos anymore, more like young adults & adults) are picking up crochet & amigurumi for the first time and trying out these patterns and need extra help. Those generations of people are also a lot less likely to print out a pattern, and will instead view the pattern on their phone/tablet/computer. Personally, I don't print any patterns out unless I need to work on one while I'm at a market selling my plushies. As a pattern designer myself, I prefer to make my patterns as thorough as possible so that EVERYONE who reads it can understand without reaching out and asking me questions. Especially free patterns - it's a free pattern most of the time because it's a fairly simple pattern and doesn't leave any room for questions. If there's room for questions, the pattern designer was probably not thinking about the difficulty level of the pattern for different experience levels.
Thank you so much for the most excellent and thorough recap of your 5 star rated pattern selections. I'm sure it was a lot of work re-crocheting the plushies and I enjoyed hearing the yarns you used before and now and the sizes they turned out. I find that most helpful. I don't think you should feel like you are hurting anyone's feelings. You are rating patterns based on what you want to see in a great pattern (as well as most crocheters, I'm sure)..You are simply looking for your criteria and pointing it out. You are not changing the patterns or suggesting changes to patterns. Saying a piece can be crocheted in is an observation. I love the way you do pattern reviews and you review really great makes. Your sock monkey is the cutest ever! I'm looking forward to that pattern. Again, thank you for sharing the things you find and test. You are the BEST!
Thank you so much for all the helpful feedback! It actually wasn't too bad making each one of these patterns again, since I'm familiar with them! I also typically weight out my yarn before & after (for pricing purposes) and time myself making them the first time around, so I got to skip all of those steps this time! I'm always super worried that I'm going to hurt the pattern designer's feelings if I share my honest opinion on the pattern... that's why I try to offer as much feedback about what they could be doing differently to make the pattern better. I've even offered help to my own followers with their patterns to rewrite their patterns! Thank you so much for watching my videos! ❤
What were the colors you used on the Yeti version is it polka dotted? Love your new monkey ❤
The spotted yarn was Himalaya: Dolphin Baby Colors in the color 80431 - yarnalot.com/collections/himalaya/products/himalaya-dolphin-baby-colors-80431-100-polyester-80431 (You can get 10% off your purchase at this website with the code CASSIE10) and the darker green I believe was Premier: Parfait Chunky in the color Lagoon.
Love your reviews! I've made a few things based on your recommendations. Now I'm going to have to go find that chicken keychain pattern. I have the opportunity to put some of my work in a local family farm store, so I'm looking for farm-ish related patterns. Love the monkey BTW (again) I'm for sure going to make him a yeti. ;)
❤ Yes! Definitely try out the chicken keychain, you will NOT be disappointed!! ❤
Love this ❤
Thank you so much! ❤
Looks like I’m first 🤪
Congrats!
Did you see premier released new parfait chunky colors? They came out with a green similar to the one you wanted! 21:10
I did!!! I spoke it into existence 🙌
Congratulations on a successful market! Your work is beautiful and the blanket on your bed is so pretty. Do you still have the pattern that you can share?
Thank you! I made the blanket in this video: ruclips.net/video/bbaHGdsjPTY/видео.html and the pattern should be linked in the description of that post 🫶💕
I am so glad it was not me trying to get those patterns to work. Thank you for sharing
Hahaha 😂 thanks for watching!
I thought that the first one at least has potential. Can't imagine the other two. It will be fun to see your improved pattern.😊
Thank you!
This was great! The pig Latin!😂 it was really creative of your husband!
Thank you!! I'm sure he will be pleased with all the compliments when he watches today 🫶
Boring, should of just continued to make the patterns. That’s the fun of ai, is proving it’ll never be better than the human brain
Sorry!
This was beyond entertaining 😂
I'm so glad 😂
Try single crochet around a straw for the fishing pole! Just an idea!
That's a good idea!
Check out the stitch counts in the second …..thing, the head maxes at 12 stitches and the body at 18. Both should be tubular, in the long run, I’m not sure what it’s supposed to be, but the result will be different, for sure. PS, the font in the on screen text is pretty, but difficult for those of us with low vision to read.
I appreciate the feedback! There's not an ending stitch count after repeating the rows it says to repeat, and there's an increase in one of the rows I had to repeat 🤷♀️ As for the font, I will let my husband know to pick a clearer font for the next video! He put the pattern in a word doc and picked all the fonts for it, I'll make sure he makes it a little clearer next time!
@ the pattern font is fine, its the comments throughout the video that had me sweating to read. 😱🤣
That bear is hysterical!😭 😂😂and the 🦖SMH. 😂 I am crocheting a BOD pattern, Speed of Light. It is a shawl. 😊
Fun! Good luck with your shawl!
I am laughing while you read the patterns. Noah did good! 😂😂😂
Hahahaha 😂 thanks so much for watching!
The bear on its own came out great I would have put a nose and mouth on it though. I agree with you about the fishing pole, fish, overalls wasn't necessary.
I agree! He needs a snout!
I think their mistake in telling you to repeat rounds 4-6 in the body was that it should’ve told you to repeat rounds 5-6 (so it’s just a tube!) then you can crochet the head to the opening on the body from that tube. With the way it’s written, if you’re doing round 4 multiple times you’re just adding stitches!
Agreed, that would've made a lot more sense!
Love the sail book painting, I have to mention! You know I’m obsessed with your decorating style. 😅this was so much fun!!! Do Dino’s have ears? Lol Noah was SUPER creative to think of doing this for you. I told my hubs about it and he was completely in AWE. Lol. He said, “darnit! I wish I had thought of doing that for you!” 😂. Boys Happy New Year, dear Cassie. Hugs 🧡 xx
I found myself talking to you during this.., “medium weight? That’s SIZE FOUR! What?! We use super bulky!”….”a telescope maybe?”… I was yakkin away! Lol! 🤣🤣
Thank you! We have lots of art we've collected over the years in our house 🤗 I'm glad you liked the video, Lisa! Hopefully I can encourage Noah to help me make another one for next month!
😂😂😂 I just saw your reply about talking to yourself, I love it!
Omg the second pattern is practically gibberish 😂
Right?! 😂
The bear is kinda cute, would have worked better sitting I think, the fishingpole is more of just a fishing line, but that trout doesnt count xD I'm looking forward to see your remake!
I didn't even THINK about making him sit! That would've been really cute!!!
That was fun. With AI you rarely get exactly what you want. I generate papers for scrapbooking and get some impressive generations and some total weird misfits. Concerning the green dinosaur(?), I was wondering what would happen if you gathered the wide circular part to make a ball and sewed the wide tail part on the ball. It might be something a bit more structural, but then again, probably not. Either way, it would be a waste of yarn. When you redo the bear, kindly adjust the fishing line so it does not look like he is holding his intestines (hehe). Noah is such a good sport. I'd like to see more of AI generated patterns. I suppose to save yourself some frustration, you'd probably need to preview the entire pattern first. Looking forward to see how you convert the bear pattern (Absolutely no pressure!) Thank you for the smiles you brought today.
I think we're going to steer clear of "no-sew" with AI for a while 😂 but I definitely look forward to making another one of these videos! Everyone seems to have loved it!!!!
I had to giggle on the pattern words, is a secret language for crocheters ,lol
To say I was struggling would be an understatement 😂
I am getting that book in March
Exciting!!
I enjoy working with the marshmallow yarn and posh. Have you ever tried Knotty ball by Kayla's Krafts? It is also very similar to posh, and had a good variety of colors!
I have not tried that! I'll have to check it out!!! Thanks for the suggestion 🫶💕
I can't wait to hear how you like the Clovers. I thought for sure they were just overrated until i tried one out one day! I now use nothing else!
I've been using them for about a week now and am in love with them! They're so light weight and smooth as butter!
I think you'll love the Clover amour hooks. They are my favourite.
I've been using them for about a week now and am in love with them! They're so light weight and smooth as butter!
enjoy your clover hooks, i use them and love theml!!
I've been using them for about a week now and am in love with them! They're so light weight and smooth as butter!
Happy New year. Your audio is great...no problems this end. Sounds great. Amazing yarn stash you have enough to keep you going for quite some time. Look forward to seeing your makes. Warm wishes from chilly Scotland. Sheila x
Thanks for watching Sheila! Happy New Year!
Great video!
Thanks for watching!
Happy new year! Here's to a crafty new year!
Happy New Year!
Just a heads up, AI images are pretty harmful to artists. The AI is trained using stolen images, and it’s also putting a lot of artists out of business. So I would suggest having your husband look into that.
Thanks, I'm aware of this! I definitely didn't mean that he AI generates images and claims the art as his own. He generates images to send to his friends, telling them to get on Discord or to play a video game with him, that sort of thing. The images he generates he only shares privately with our friends. Sorry for the misunderstanding! I definitely understand the worry of stolen property and the like, it's something I battle daily with my patterns and friends of mine's patterns being stolen or sold in packs hidden on Etsy by AI generated images claiming to be packs of 100+ original patterns together.
