Hive Inspection, Mite Treatments and Swarm Prevention, a busy day.

It's spring and I want to get ahead of my mite treatment. We had an average mite count in my alcohol wash so I'm applying my oxalic acid sponge pads for 60 days before the nectar flow starts. Before the fruit trees bloom I'm also adding extra space so that my bees have room to expand the brood nest. Enjoy!

Harvesting Honey: 🐝 - Bee Escapes, Bee Brushes and Blowers

I try to briefly outline my methods for preparing for the honey harvest. I like to use the Quebec-style bee escape to remove full supers of honey from my hives. I use bee escapes because they let me efficiently harvest honey without upsetting bees. In the past I've also used bee brushes and bee blowers but it all depends on what you prefer.

I am bemused that research is all over the world since a very long time ago and even some of the biggest professional bee farmers are saying it has worked but since ----nothing? I admire the effort. There are easier ways to do what you are attempting. No tilling required. I would suggest spraying down the grasses with Roundup. Once you have cleaned up the grasses, the smaller seeds can be spread on as you did, then pull a harrow section across the field a few times to get the seeds down, that's it! Wait for rain and you are good to go. I would also suggest Lacy Phacelia, its an awesome plant, the bees love it and you get several months of flowers. I seeded Phacelia along with clovers two years ago, but the grasses took over. So last fall I sprayed down the grasses again and will be seeding back with clovers and phacelia this spring.

It's worth looking at all Randy Oliver's experiments on the strip method. He does not claim to be the first researcher either but says the Argentinian doctors of Biology experimented with the 'extended release method' 2013. Seems a lot of thinking beekeepers are finding out that the strips do work but do not know why? A professional beekeeper said it just might be the silver bullet we beekeepers have been hoping for....... No names mentioned! He seems a most delightful chap who does not tell lies. That is a godsend on You tube because not every one is like him or the makers of this great video..... The chap said he uses no chemicals in his honey production. I I were him I would be ashamed of selling bees absolutely lathered in mites. 30 mite drop the next day after transporting them. 300 a week later. I just love torturing mites with acid. I don't think I'll be seeing that beekeeper again but I do have 1300 mites in IPA to give him to show the O. acid strips work. The hive exploded with bees after the 3 month strips! Incidentally but importantly, R O says he thinks the method interferes adversely with the mites breeding program? ?????? acid on the genitals??????

Keep at it, it's such a rewarding hobby. So what I did this year is left my honey supers outside after extracting and let the bees rob it out. They did a great job at cleaning all the wax off the comb. Mice will get into it usually if there is honey or pollen left in the frame. You can take the time to harvest the wax and sell it but I only do that with the wax cappings. I like to put drawn honey supers back on the colonies, it helps them make honey faster when they don't have to draw new comb.

Hang in there, it takes time to nail down what mite treatment works best for you. In my experience Formic is a little tricky to use in the fall. It messes with the queen and in the fall you cannot afford to loose any queens. Check out my other video on mite treatments, oxalic vapour is a great treatment when the colony is broodless. Good Luck.

I decided to use it in this situation where I don't want to risk loosing a queen this close to winter. In the spring I'd just use the traditional method. Thanks for subscribing! Cheers.

Chalkbrood is caused by a fungus not a bad queen. "Treatment: Apiguard or a thymol based treatment is active against chalkbrood. Vitafeed Green contains thymol and also works against chalkbrood. Beevital Chalkbrood is another product available for treating chalkbrood. Increased ventilation in the hive will help prevent chalkbrood."

I've heard of these treatments before. Although they work what has worked for me and other beekeepers in my area is to introduce a new queen. Ive since checked and it seems to have worked.

Круто 👍. Я тоже использую такой раствор для борьбы с клещем вароа, только вместо губки изпользую картон. В следующем году можно использовать губку повторно?

Hey Rob, if you were to make a 3-Way Mating Nucs you would not have to make special tinny little frames: see this beekeeper in Tennessee, Kamon Reynolds "Setting up Queen Castles". Some time ago I made those tinny little frames and they are a pain. At the end they just lay around and are not used.

Hey Mark, I agree completely with you. I ended up making a 4 way mating nuc out of a deep brood box. I like using that much better than this. Oh well it was a good winter project.

I believe it should be at least 42 days. And 50 gms per treatment is important. I found them very effective last year. Getting them in again now.

They work well and compared to other treatments I prefer this for the price and gentleness on bees.

Here is some mind blowing facts regarding Honey Bees; Honey bees and number 16; A female honeybee has 16 diploid chromosomes and the male has 16 haploid chromosomes. It takes a hive 16 days to make a Queen ie from an egg to a Queen Bee. Chapter 16 in the Quran is called “The Bee”. The word Bee mentioned only once in the entire Quran and it’s in 16:86. This verse is used only 16 Arabic letters(including the repetition) out of the 28 Arabic letters . The shortest verse in chapter 16(The Bee) is verse 16. Verse 16:16 is made of 16 Arabic Letters. Chapter 16 (The Bee)is made of 128 verses, which is a multiplication of 16 ie(16x8) and 2080 Arabic words which is also multiplication of 16 ie (16x130). There are 992 Arabic words before the word An-Nahl(The Bee) 992=16x62. There are 1088 words from the word Bee to the end of the chapter, 1088= 16x68(16:68 is the verse where the word be is mentioned) . Allah(God) inspired/spoke to the bee as a female bee as it’s written in Arabic in The Quran >1400 years ago, Allah inspired her to do her tasks. Now we know that the Hive is run by females (>99% females) doing the tasks inspired to do), whilst Shakespeare spoke about bees hive as a kingdom run by a King and defended by his brave army of male bees! . Also the Smoke, a honey beekeepers uses to calm bees, ends up as CO2, the Molecular Weight of CO2 is 44 and Chapter 44 in The Quran is called “The Smoke. “ Google “Aramaic dictionary” and translate the ward God into Aramiac(The language of the be loved Jesus, son of Mary, peace be upon him ) you will see its translation is AaLaH and in Hebrew is Allahum. Finally read the last testament(The Quran) and you will see it makes since and you will say why no one told us about it.

Why you change their queen? isn't the old queen still in good condition and lay eggs?

Good question Hendrik. No, that's why I had to change up the queen. The colony had chalk brood. The best way to fix it is by changing the queen.
