      It's funny because like any place the people who live in small towns in Alaska of course don't like all the tourists because it makes everything crowded as well as tourists seem to not consider that people actually live there and are often inconsiderate, but at the same the locals realize they need them for the town to survive. I heard a joke, I told someone one time the people at the post office were so extra friendly this weekend and she said that's because all the tourists left 😂 but seriously, where I'm living now near Denali I understand a lot of tourists go there and yes sometimes they walk on the side of the road where the streets are narrow and the speed limits are 45 mph and they do get in the way but more so they put themselves in danger of getting hit by cars, we're driving running errands so we have to be extra careful for them, but I don't find as many tourists here as I heard there were before I got here. In short yes tourists are annoying just like I'm annoying when I go and visit a small town in Idaho. I get in those people's way, but I try to be considerate and understand people live there and it's their home, unfortunately most people don't think that way when they're on vacation. Anyhow, the benefit here is the tourist season is so short they come and go pretty quickly.

    You talk about Florida like it's a place where no one should be depressed. The opposite. It's a hellhole of overdevelopment, mass stupidity, and wage slavery. There are legitimate reasons someone might be depressed there and find Alaska to be a nice change.

    • @Life_Is_A_Highway-
      @Life_Is_A_Highway- День назад

      I don't think I singled out Florida. But my point was regardless where you live, "depression" is not something that comes and goes simply because you move because one thinks it would be a nice change. Low wages and overdevelopment don't cause depression. It may cause someone to not like where they're living, and therefore leading them to be in bad moods often, and not very happy with their life at the moment. But you don't need to move across the country to change that. I'm pretty confident there's places in Florida that are nicer places to live than in other parts of Florida. Depression is a serious mental illness. A change of scenery or a move does not make depression go away. And moving to a place that is extremely cold and dark for longer periods of time is one of the worst places someone who is depressed should move to. I'm sorry if you disagree with that...... now assuming a person is not depressed but he's just not happy with where he's living, if they chose to come to Alaska they may like it here and they may not. But any baggage they're carrying with them, whether it's insecurity or trouble with the law or depression or family problems comes with them to Alaska. Some things cannot be changed just because one moves..... but you are certainly right there are people who are depressed in Florida and move to Alaska and they sit here and after the excitement of living in a new place wears off which is typically within one year, those people are depressed again, and they either leave Alaska or they sit here in a remote community still depressed but happy to hide in the shadows for the rest of their lives, typically because they fall into alcoholism or drug use. Or they commit suicide. But none of them lose their depression without professional help...BTW I hate to be the one to say this but there is a lot of stupidity and a lot of underpaid jobs in Alaska. And if you want to live anywhere where it's convenient, the cities are so small, they could easily be described as a bit overdeveloped. You only see less stupid people in Alaska if you live in a small remote community but you're still going to see stupid people. Also if you live in a small remote community most likely your career job is not going to be here and you're going to have to take a job that pays $12 to $18 an hour ( by the way minimum wage in Alaska is around $11). And your rent for a very small place, much smaller than you can get in Florida, it's going to be about $900 a month and you may not have running water. Add in The Long Dark cold Winters. Are you sure that sounds better to you than Florida and a place where someone who is depressed should move to?

    No snow yet , is it too early for snow?

    • @Life_Is_A_Highway-
      @Life_Is_A_Highway- День назад

      I guess it's fair to say Alaska's like any other state where there are no set dates/months when snow may begin to fall... last year in the snowiest city in the US in Valde we got no snow until the third week of November. I think it's not common that Anchorage would get any snow before November, other than a mixture of rain and snow flurries. In the interior from what I was told you may have an inch or two fall a couple of times in October.... but it's definitely different every year, for example over the weekend about 4 inches of snow fell and four more inches fell yesterday and today, and tonight and tomorrow night the lows will be between 4 and 12 degrees but that's because there's an arctic cold front blowing over us the next couple of days and next week we should be getting at least six more inches, but temperatures will get back to the twenties close to 30 after Sunday, so this is going to be considered a snowy and uncommon cold temperatures for October in Healy......BTW the video you watched is when I went to Fairbanks on September 22nd, it's not common to snow that early in in the interior between Fairbanks and Healy. I was just told three days ago that before 1992 they always had plenty of snow in September.

      Thank you 🙂 in the summer cabin it was a Toya stove( if I needed it). In this tiny house its electricity, and it is floor heat. I also have one of those heaters that's on wheels that I can plug into the wall if I need it when it gets colder. Since heat is included in the rent, I'll use whatever I can to keep warm haha.... quite honestly if in the future I wind up buying my own small cabin, I prefer electricity for the stove and Heat simply because I don't like the smell of propane inside, and the Toya stoves as great as they are often have little issues and I'm not a handyman. So I would have to pay a little bit more to have the heat and stove with electric but it makes things a little easier for me. It's not that I have extra money to spend but sometimes you just have to accept your capabilities lol which also saves you money in the long run.

    • @WestCoastRoller

      @Life_Is_A_Highway- That's good electricity is included in rent!! Your going to use lots of it I would say. Looking forward to hearing your feedback on the comfort and insulation capabilities of the tiny home.

    • @Life_Is_A_Highway-
      @Life_Is_A_Highway- 2 дня назад

      @WestCoastRoller I asked the owner to share with me the electric cost in December and January and February. She expects it to be about $200 a month. I have a feeling she's not considering you definitely need to have the heat set a bit warmer in this tiny house than a normal house, and she probably also didn't consider plugging the car in. I'm also the first person renting this because they just finished building at 2 days before I moved in. But I want to know the cost of electric because it will also give me a general idea of how much I should expect to pay for my own place in the future... right now I'm pretty much just living like I would live in an apartment, in terms of not going out of my way to save a penny since it's all included. Because that's the way I would want to live in my own place. Pretty much everything I do now it's just learning what to expect in the future.

      If I understand you correctly, you mean I should buy and not rent? I agree with you, but here are my 3 problems with that. First off, I just don't have enough $ to buy now. Secondly, I'm patient and I'm saving and plan on buying a piece of property and a cabin in the next 5 years, I need to find someone who offers a generous owner financing plan. It's easier to find that once you're here for a while and you get to know people because when your new, almost everybody thinks you're going to leave in a few months like most people do. Lastly, the reason I'm patient is I'm learning a lot by renting, particularly what I should and shouldn't have inside a cabin, for example, if I buy one or if I have one built in the future. And I'm also learning a lot about the different areas in Alaska and where I would be willing to buy something. So in a way, I feel that I'm better off than people who just come here and buy right away because they often make quite a few mistakes and often regret buying so quickly. So I think I'm lucky that not having money is actually preventing me from rushing into things. So it's actually a benefit now that I'm poor haha but trust me when I say the owners don't ruin anything for me, they only teach me what I need to know for my own place 🙂

      I've never been to Juneau, coincidentally there was a couple in Valdez who I knew who were from there and the guy hated it there and the girl loved it there. He didn't like it because it's so far from the rest of Alaska. The only reason she didn't like it is because all of the tourists, which is going to happen in most places in Alaska but in Juneau it's a little more difficult to get away from them according to her. She didn't care that she was so far from the mainland or the rest of Alaska because she just didn't have the urge to visit as many places as he did. It's one thing you will notice in some of these places like valdez, some people haven't left the town in 20 plus years, some of them have never even been to most other parts of Alaska. It's not many people but you will always find a few. So I think whether you'd be happy or not in a place like Juneau will depend on how much money you have and how much free time you have if you do want to see a lot of Alaska.....I'll get to Juneau one day, and glad you enjoyed the video 🙂

      Do you live in Alaska or you visited? I have a feeling when you said that you visited that Park that you may live here. I'll get there next spring, maybe with a little more life in the park, not heading that way anytime soon cuz the roads are just not safe anymore.

      @Biglake-yf5sc okay because there is a place called Big Lake in Alaska and I thought maybe this person lives there haha I lived on the East Coast my entire life until I move to Europe in 1991, originally from New Jersey but I also lived in massachusetts, new york, Connecticut and Virginia.

    Before I moved into the cabin in the woods in Sweden that I live in now, I lived for a few years in a tiny house smaller than yours (9m2) in Switzerland. I am sure you'll like it. Do you have skis or snowshoes to get around on foot and to get some exercise in winter, or is that not your thing so much?

    • @Life_Is_A_Highway-
      @Life_Is_A_Highway- 5 дней назад

      May I ask why did you move from the tiny house into the cabin, for more space? I bought the -40 muck boots for the deep snow in Valdez but it's going to be good for here too, even though I don't get 400+ inches of snow anymore haha but I'm not a particularly outdoorsy kind of person, I like sitting around home and in the yard as well as going and visiting places. But I'm going to break from that until spring time cuz cars are already sliding off the roads around here.

    Those OSB sheets on the second level need to be treated in some way - any kind of sealant would do it. They're made with adhesives that contain formaldehyde, like urea-formaldehyde or phenol-formaldehyde resins, which you don’t want to be continuously exposed to.

      Starlink has worked great for the week that I've had it, faster than the local provider... I love going to places during the off-season because you have a front row seat to all of the sites even if the little stores and tourist centers are closed. It's much more enjoyable without the crowds.

      Thanks, well before it gets too cold I'll continue playing around outside, and in the winter I'm going to watch five football games a week after work( which wipes out 90% of those days), I'll go down to the laundromat and shower which wipes out an hour a day, and then work on the RUclips videos and when I have extra time watch some netflix. 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. I work my job from home. I did the same thing last year in Valdez without the yard, I find my ways to keep myself busy 🙂
