That is not sporting and the fish are not fair game. Even if its not illegal i would never use this technique. You are not starving in the third world mate. And sharing this on you tube just encourages the sort of people with no knowledge or respect for our wildlife. Shame on you.
😂
What a hall, great video.....I want to try this in Ireland this summer :)
I did it in looe harbour about 5/6 months ago myself had about 30 small mullet in 2 chucks of my cast net it's so much fun
Amazing video mate!! Loved it, ignore the negative and clueless comments who have no idea on the laws when it comes to fishing, I was wondering what part of Cornwall this is in, I know it’s The River Looe, but this spot seems really good as there’s parking close by, where exactly is this spot exactly? Cheers and carry on the foraging videos mate! 👍
@@oneclicks-f8p Hiya mate, thank you for your support!👍This is in looe town at the millpool car park which is right next to the river, hope that helps mate.
Thank you mate had a feeling it was next to that car park, I showed my dad the video and he was mind blown that you caught such huge mullet and seabass in such little water, do you think it’s worth trying to do cast net during November to January? We’re from Goa so we know quite a bit when it comes to cast nets and nets in general/fishing, this video was unreal though honestly!! Please carry on making these videos and ignore the idiots who haven’t got a clue what they’re talking about when it comes to the laws and what not! What part of India did you buy the net from? Quite a few websites sell them these days but the ones in Goa are a lot bigger in size, we’ve been to the South coast near Sussex beaches and put our normal nets there, seem to have worked wonders!
@@oneclicks-f8p there wouldn't be much worth netting there at that time of year to be honest. I just bought the net off of ebay for 20 pound but as you can see it does the job.
@@FORAGEFEAST-m1c oh really, why is that the case to not bother during this time of year, do the mullets and seabass not come into the estuarys/river at all and only come up during the summer months like in your video would you say?
Totally unnecessary to kill all those fish.
@@snoopiain well that's how fishing for food usually works 👍
Is it legal to use it in the UK
Great video mate! Fellow Cornwall cast netter here. I first saw it done in the Amazon something like 15 years ago and bought myself a net when i got back. I was lucky enough to have a fishing friend from ascention island to teach me the technique. I caught some great mullet, a memorable netful of mackerel and a few good bass with it in the Fal and Fowey esturies. Havent done it in years as my net disintegrated but i would like to get another. Any recommendations for a decent quality net with large mesh size for fast sinking? Nothing like that tug tug tug of a good netful of big mullet on the rope😊
@@JohnNichol-ms7pv hi ya buddy, great to read your comment, to be honest any of the cheap Chinese amazon/eBay nets are perfect, it's all I've ever used, do let me know how you get on 👍
Its illeagal in UK to fish with cast nets in rivers and estuarys, im reporting you and i hope you get a massive fine..Ive downloaded this as evidence.
@@Anthonyinkz it'll be a laugh mate when you report me & find out your wrong 😂👍
A fantastic demonstration on how to blunt a knife 👍🏻
I hope sombody reports you to uk bass its illegal to fish for bass with a cast net .Youre only allowed 2 bass with rod and line .The eastury is a designated nusery area and there is bye laws . All the people that are praising you should look up the the law .
Thanks good information and a good job 👏

@@stevengardner81 I only took 1 bass
Either right or wrong you are certainly nailing them . Plenty of fish for the family and those bass are tasty .
Very informative, thank you.
Definitely illegal, under cornwall IFCA byelaws 1g sect v. No net of 4 square metres. That means the diameter of a circle is 7ft 6". Your net is bigger than that and I will be reporting you and this video.
Why don't you use a push net much easier
Advice from the local marine group: Finally, ALL anglers are encouraged to fish sustainably, and show respect for other marine users and the environment. This means not taking more fish than you will eat; catch and release of small (and large) fish; not leaving any litter or waste, and taking care how you handle live fish so as to minimise stress and prevent their injury. D
@@jonrundle3914 totally agree Jon, the thing people don't understand is I was on holiday, and I take a few mullet once a year, every angler you ever find fishing with a rod, takes a whole lot more fish than me, I fillet and freeze these and probably eat one a month, so very sustainable, not over fishing, no rubbish, discarded hooks and line, and definitely no ruptured swim bladders, just a completely ethical way of putting a few dinners on the table throughout the year.
If you keep taking those little mackerel ,there ain't going to be any left, 2 or3 bigger ones ideal , fid you really need those tiny ones .
If I see you down there standby, idiot!
Is 7ft net legal
@@markjenkins1410 hiya mate in the sea any size cast net is legal. In rivers you'll have to check with your local IFCA to see if they have any bylaws! In this particular river yes 7ft is fine mate 👍
Thanks just ordered one from America, can't wait till it comes and just got cheap one off Ebay until it arrives in 2 weeks, thankyou 👍
@@markjenkins1410 sounds good mate 👌 your welcome!
I don't think you explained yourself very well in your video. In harbours and estuaries the maximum sqm is 4. This equates to a diameter net of 7.4ft. Not all cast nets are within that limit. Anything larger, can be used in open sea, but not in harbours or estuaries. And minimum size for "any fish" is not 20cm. It depends on the fish. Yes, mullet are 20cm, but (for example) mackerel are 30cm and bass are 42cm (with a max catch limit of 2 in any one fishing session).
That’s a really fascinating and informative video-I totally get why you are so enthusiastic about it. Have you tried this method on the open shoreline where the fish, if any are present at all, are not visible and if so have you had any success? I am thinking in particular about surf beaches where flatfish are often close in as well bass.
@@davidburgess2354 Thank you mate!👍 Yes that's where I started doing this originally, on the beach ankle deep in the water. I found you need quite calm water so you can see ripples or when they surface slightly. Otherwise you'll be throwing your net blind. I suppose if your going to a spot you know always has those fish there, it could work. Hope that helps mate 👍
Don’t think what you are doing is legal don’t think you are allowed to net estuarys
@@olivervenus3797 I am mate, most estuaries have their own bylaws so you ideally need to check with the local environment agency or IFCA but with this river I did and its fine. I hope this clears things up 👍 I have had a lot of negative comments on the cast net video's from people who don't do their research before commenting negatively.
@FORAGEFEAST-m1c were the Bass you took over 42 cm ?
@@olivervenus3797 I'm sorry, I don't have to answer to you!😂 I know what I'm doing and what I can and can not do. I have been fishing my whole life. Thanks.
I'd go mackerel fishing from the shore with a mate of mine, I cast a normal distance, but he can cast much further. I'd be catching one or two at a time while that git was dragging in about six a time, I was a tad miffed 😂.
@@wolfenstein6676 there's generally no rule on distance with mackerel, you can catch them down the wall or hundred yards out, just gotta be in the right place at the right time.

@@markjenkins1410 Cheers mate👍 I think I got it from amazon, it was a few years ago tbf but it a 6 foot.
Perhaps you could include something in your videos about only taking what you need. A am a shooting but I am a sport fisherman to. Mullet are and excellent sporing quarry and it seems a shame to see them harvested by the bucket full. They are very slow growing and fellow mullet fisherman report populations totally wiped out at certain marks. The reason given it commercial netting. Mullet are a resource we all can enjoy but not once they are gone. Your method may legal I don't have the knowledge to comment. But a message of only take what you need wouldn't go a miss.
@@Toss-io5ch I fully understand and respect your opinion, but I visit Cornwall at most a couple of times a year and take a few fish each time for consumption throughout the year when I'm landlocked in Leicester for the rest of the year.
Yes but you a board casting to a wide audience. Some may not show the same restraint. When you provide instruction as you have, you should, I believe explain that when this method is affective the is a responsibility to understand the resource sustainability when harvesting.
@@Toss-io5ch Thanks for the side note 👍
spoken to my local.MP and the environmental agency. my MP has taken my request up.to ask a question in parliament. to ban the use of cast nets.
@stevengardner81 to be perfectly honest, I think that cast nets are fine for responsible fishing and bait fishing. Unfortunately, this video is not a great example of responsible fishing. However, I do think that mullet catch sizes should fall in line with mackerel restrictions.
20cm minimum landing size is appalling, mature at least 40cms.
@@michaelbrazendale8368 I didn't make the rules! Your complaining in wrong place matey!😁

@@stephenboreham9056 Yes they are pretty easy to get just apply to the environmental agency!👍
Great instructional video, picking up on a couple of points. It would be nice to see a legal size measure in use , also perhaps showing the safe return of all the undersized fish. As a freezer filler i understand your methods albeit angling on light gear would have probably been more sporting. Btw.. Bass 42 centimetres .. Grey Mullet ..20 centimetres
@@paulroscorla3887 Thank you for the advice mate, I have been fishing my whole life and I know the restrictions on all fish and always sure to check on what I don't know. I'd never be unethical whilst fishing. I checked with ifca and they made me aware that actually for grey mullet in an estuary being caught with a net under 4m square that there is no size restrictions at all. Which I was surprised myself but never keep the fish under 20cm anyway as there's not a lot of meat on them 20cm let alone smaller. But yes that's definitely somthing I'd bare in mind next time, so the people can see for themselves. 👍
Have you checked with Cornwall IFCA that this is legal ? River and Estuarine Fishing Nets Byelaw 2017 Cornwall IFCA.??
Good point,. according to IFCA website it's a bit of a grey area. www.cornwall-ifca.gov.uk/netting '' Prohibition of netting in Cornwall's Rivers and Estuaries.... Under a byelaw, which came into force in January 2018, it is an offence to use a net for taking sea fish in any of the rivers or estuaries within the Cornwall IFCA district. It is also an offence to carry a net on board a vessel while engaged in any fishing activity within the rivers and estuaries. The prohibition on carrying or using nets does not apply to: Various low impact nets such as a landing net, brailing net, netting which forms part of a trap for fish or shellfish, or a dredge, or any manually operated net which does not exceed 4 square meters. Sand eel seine nets used under a permit issued by Cornwall IFCA. Ebb nets used under a permit issued by Cornwall IFCA.
