What gear boxes do you recommend?

Is it possible to these mods on anything other than power wheels? Like i have a radio flyer go cart is that considered a type of power wheel? Im trying to start something up here in Maui Hawaii for the kids here but we are limited in whats available on island

So you take out 1st gear then put 2nd gear in, do you only put 2nd gear back or do the rest of the gears go back in as well. I'm sure this is a stupid question but I am not mechanical at all. Use a left and right hand thread heim joint to be able to spin the top bar for adjustments.
