This is the train on the Whitewater Valley Railroad, preparing to board passengers to Metamora, Indiana. This was the 10:01 am train for Canal Days on 10/7/2017. if it looked like the train came to an abrupt, violent stop, you're right. (Watch for coach 2600). It was worse when we arrived in Metamora and we were ON the train and the same thing happened. Starting the train was pretty good, but t...

I grew up in the 80s in Carmel and used to visit Union Station a lot. Moved away and came back for a band contest 30 years later in 2024 and stayed at Union Station which is now Crown Plaza Hotel. It's a surreal experience walking through the hotel remembering it as the mall that it used to be.
These Days Are Gone!
Jim: But I lived there, beside, Sandra didn't know Wabash too.
What's inside the building now?I remember the sports store and the fudge paddlers on the first floor.always stopped there after a colts game.the good ole days.
The interesting fact 0:04 the lady couldn't remember at the dig site towards the end of the video is they had to stop the digging for awhile as they found the Wabash and Erie Canal. I absolutely loved watching this video. (Edited to add my thanks)
I keep having a re occuring dream of being in a cave at night eating at a table and there was a hooters inside the cave. This is it. I was on my way to see a Colts game. Peyton Manning rookie season against the Eagles.
This place had a really badass arcade. Thanks for posting!
That’s back in the day when we would cruise the circle on the weekends good times
That is a steel Chicago L car running, not an interurban streetcar.
Was there in spring 1988 on a high school field trip while visiting IRT. What a great place this was back then.
I was on the crew that packed all the furniture into Union Station & the Hotel.
My stepdad owned Gary's Tenderloins.
Oh that Q95 callsign. Love it!! I was 13 when this was recorded. Union Station was so awesome. They had the haunted train at halloween time! Thanks for posting!!!
Was this on the old moon line
Sadly the parks department has pulled out the trolls line in forest park
Love seeing those 80s and 90s era cars and trucks
This was awesome. Thanks for posting. I came across this video because I was looking for the names of the two restaurants in the Grand Hal. I think one of them was Norman, and the other was a steakhouse. I worked at Union Station for years. I worked at Hollywood Shoppe, the NBC store, The Great Train Store and Hooters. I had a blast! really wish they would bring it back to life!
I think it was Butt Hole of Lafayette to end street running! How about you?
Still playing the same song on that radio station...lol
Nice locomotive, but the horn is not the right sound. It sounds more like a Amtrak locomotive than the locomotive itself.
Antique cars, antique locomotive, street railroading with passenger cars,... It doesn't get any better than this!
This is awesome. I THINK I went here, like, ONCE as a kid and played some kind of primitive "virtual reality" game at some kiosk in the middle of the walkway....can anyone verify if that was here or not?
Wow... downtown back then is so different. I wasn't even born in that time, lol. My mom and dad were just in their mid-30's, I think. I remember my mom saying she used to work near or at a post office in downtown, somewhere near the library. She said she saw the train once, I'm pretty sure. All that stands left of the tracks is just a small strip left on a street, sort of a memorial to the line that used to run there. Everything else is now moved to a new line along the Wabash.
Want no arcade shots? What are you, a sadist? Lol jk
Oh the nostalgia! It is such a shame that they dug up to where the train stopped in the introductory portion, that train was repainted, and the gp9 trailing is now doing caboose rides... DITSLER!!!
This is why the internet is awesome. What a blast from the past. The comments are just as good too. Left handed store, the fudge making place. I loved Union Station as a kid and this video couldn't be a more accurate representation of how I remember it. Thank you!!!!!
8:23 Dictograph as in Dictograph the people who (among other things) made alarm systems? (The house I grew up in was built in 1953 or so, and still has window decals from the Dictograph alarm that used to be installed, along with the box and external light/siren for the system (though birds have nested in it.)
I’d like that horn what kind is it could you please answer me thank you very much.
Old cast Nathan p3
I had the pleasure of riding this exact train once!
Thanks for this, this is my childhood as I was 12/13 years old in 1993. I was in Union Station constantly during my youth, mainly the arcade section at the top. My Aunt used to take me to the Haunted Train, dark and scary as hell.
That arcade was stellar, though I was glad to see TUS like this, it would have been double great to see just a section of that enormous arcade.
Does this railroad pass through Adams, Indiana?
❤ I was looking for Union Station and this is exactly what I was looking for! I might have been there that day! I was also there when they had a haunted house in the station and they called it demon's depot 😎 Awesome memories! You can tell what inspired circle center mall! Thanks for posting!
Truly cannot believe they tore up the Norfolk and Western, just so they can have their own "little Monon trail"in Fishers
It was also the nickel plate road
It's sad that this will never be repeated.
I was 11. That really took me back. Wow. If you have any others please post!
Love those F-Units!
Omg i lived in Indianapolis at this exact time. I was five years old. I remember going here all the time with my grandmother. You have touch a part of my soul🥺🥺. The best video I’ve seen in years. Bless you. Upload more if you have it.
Love that horn, she needs a lick of paint
What the heck have I lost my mind am I by myself?. This is crazy why is a useless non important train going down the middle of the road?.. These people must all be nuts and this hillbilly town.
Yes, You are by yourself...
Quite a common thing really. Even here in Australia we have railway tracks that run through the main street.
Damn I miss that place, they had the best cheese fries
That guy in the pick me up truck, was a douche', ha ha, I thought for sure his left quarter panels were gonna be kissed by that baby. Too bad he'd have deserved it.
So thankful I lived in America during these days. Where ever i see abandoned tracks or hike bike trails, I go reminiscing. You can't put a price tag on how good life was without the anticeptic technology of today
It's fascinating to see how different Downtown was just twenty-five years ago. That was before my lifetime, so it's crazy to imagine Amtrak going right down Fifth Street.
Haunted Train all in a bitches ass
I can surely understand why adding those ditch lights to the pilot of any railroad engine would be essential nowadays, such as when Amtrak was stopped in the middle of the street, having them flashing alternately, upon when they get rolling again.
Wow! While I have heard of the old Monon Railroad running down many of the streets in your state, in Indiana, I have never actually seen any photos or videos of the Lafayette street running tracks. I have recently researched, using Google's Earth 🌎, their street viewing feature (so to have a similar feeling of actually being there) the Monon Railroad's street running tracks in Bedford, Indiana. I have visited the former W19th Street trackage of Erie, PA back in September of 1996, used by the Norfolk Southern Railroad. (I also used the Earth's 🌎 street viewing so to look at any of the new infrastructure where NS, their detour route, intersects any roads above, below or, at grade. It works, without actually going there!)
Maximum authorized speed is 30, but the speed didn't exceed 20 by much for most of the trip. Was it to make the trip longer, or were there slow orders because of track condition?
Awesome video! I finally got to watch it in its entirety. Fell asleep to horns blasting the last couple of nights lmao
Great video Greg Arnst really something how this country has been getting rid of street running tracks/lines.
I think it’s sad, but I definitely understand why. It’s just so interesting
Better days, in some ways.
