Greg Schiano postgame presser following 42-7 loss to Wisconsin
Nice showcase Aaron! This dude is legit
Very few bad shots, mostly within the flow of the offense
I was wondering why no one was talking about Somerville in the pre season. Good footwork, post moves, nice touch, what a finish on the break and a pass reminiscent of Magic
Summerville was a top 100 ranked player out of high school, but just got overshadowed in the hype by Harper and Bailey.
Big O is huge, but lacks bball instincts...he thinks too much which prevents him from playing with passion.
Good to see Rutgers win a game against a bad team. They will be back to Division II very soon along with the pathetic football team.
@@RidleyHolmes-sr2tw weak sauce trolling job there. Do better.
Good stuff Aaron. Sommerville was one of the brightest spots of the evening for my takeaway. Very impressed with his touch, passing, positioning at times, mobility, and you could literally see him being careful not to foul too much. First game out - very promising!!!
The season is over. Rutgers is going nowhere except to the locker room.
A very important point will be the experience Lathan gets before playing the Big Ten boys because that will be a tough test for him. They will force him to guard them down low and that will be a challenge to do without fouling. It's amazing how much weight he has lost in the short time he has been at RU! The weight loss has accelerated his development and is very encouraging.
Positive and encouraging display. The team is starting to work together well. I can't wait to see more... Go RU!
Sommerville has a huge upside, alot of talent on the team
Loved the balance, D was very good, Dylan is sublime, Lathan a nice surprise. There are still questions about rim protecting and rebounding but maybe all the other positives will compensate.
J-mike's on the ball defense was suffocating....
Off topic… Did anyone else notice Dylan changed his shoes at least once? The whole first 1/2 up until about 3 mins left… He was wearing some pink Nike’s. At that 3 min mark he started wearing green ones. Not sure if he changed them again at 2 time but will check. Maybe this happens all the time and I just never really noticed, but thought it was interesting.
@@XxMarosyxX Red in Shawshank Redemption: “I mean, seriously, how often do you really look at a man's shoes?"
Yes we were there and noticed that right away
If the likes of jwill jmike and derkack can hit open 3s the ceiling raises a lot, think Paul when he was here he never shot 3s off the dribble but if he was left wide open he could hit them
I think it’s crazy that every time you see Dylan attack the rim, you feel like he’s gonna score almost every time
Liked the balance and overall defense. Confirmed to me that this will be a special season!
A little disorganized in the first 5 or 7 minutes. Lot of missed 3pters. Otherwise a win and seeing contribution from a broad range of players (particularly summerville) is encouraging.
Competed against tyje Kelton in high-school local guy from dunellen about 10 min from the rac
Game #1. Let's go RU Basketball 🏀!!!
Let’s go Aaron ! It’s RU hoops season! 🔴
Can RU rebound and defend the 5? Expect 40+ from Bailey & Harper. Expect JMike to hound short guards causing turnovers & rushed shots (clock). Expect pressing and 1/2 court traps...providing more minutes (and more hustle). Big O at the 5 is a concern since he could clog the middle.
It is realistic to expect this Rutgers men's basketball team to win 20+ games this upcoming season. 23-8 is my prediction...GO RU!!!
So much data. Mind boggling. I’m only looking forward to Dylan taking the leadership role on the court and Pije building a team around him. By the way the team photo you posted on your You Tube video should have not cut the bottom dedication portion from the photo. The dedication portion you cut off reads SCARLET KNIGHTS POSE FOR THEIR 2024=2025 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP PHOTO.
10-2 Non Con, 13-7 B1G (top 5), (continuous improvement as seas goes on)Sweet 16/Elite 8! There, I said it before listening to this Pod AB
@@Digger5678 love the optimism but only 11 non-con games. Close to what I said though great minds think alike.
@@thescarletfaithfulduh - yeah 9-2 (or 10-1 since the Vegas tourney will try for even matches on the penultimate game 3) and season obviously not oceans or seas lol. I usually proofread but I was late for something and rushing, sorry! At any rate this is shaping up as a season to remember (and I was a sophomore in ‘75-‘76) and I’ve been mostly disappointed (and yes, occasionally thrilled) by RU hoops over the years but I’m strapping in and ready for a wild ride!!!
Way to go can’t wait to watch good luck ❤
Oh the season ahead. Let's hope they play Wagner every game. or else they are looking at a 9-win season. It will still be double the wins the football program has in two years.
I especially liked Jerry's comments at the end. In his own way, he reiterated Pike's "enjoy the journey". Fans shouldn't overreact to any single loss or issue. I was a sophomore during the '76 season and to this day, it is one of my favorite sports memories and experiences. Let this season be yours.
I am really concerned about the Center position.
After what happened to the football team after their pre-season hype, I'm not falling for it again. Nuh-uh Rutgers!
Fall of 1975, not much emphasis was placed on freshmen (first year of frosh being eligible was 1972-73). In NJ, only 2 players from one HS could play on the same team during the off season. Very few high schoolers were known save a Lew Alcindor. No one was allowed to accept money. My tuition at a hard to get in private school was $4000. January/February/March of 1976 was exciting and surrealistic. As timed passed, Sellers was an excellent college player, but other Rutgers players became better pros. The team was actually more talented than we thought.. Cinderella went to the ball, but her feet didn't fit the glass slippers
we need to keep these young men around for 2/3 years. no great 1 and done teams. also need a strong big man like Purdue had for 4 years!
Thank God for Jerry Carino. My favorite writer and speaker about NJ College Basketball. He asks the best questions in post-game interviews and stands out amongst the others.
Dylan will be able to defend but Ace will struggle to defend consistently. The problem in the exhibition was guarding the center and REBOUNDING! Our bench is very strong and will be effective this year. Go RU
PJ is a difference maker. Can’t wait for the country to know this guys name
I would still like to know how much RU is paying Bailey and Harper.
@@burtwest2750 Harper has signed NIL deals with national brands like Fanatics and Hollister. Other than the Vegas NIL tournament, I believe all of his NIL money is coming from outside of Rutgers. Ace is less clear, I think it’s a mix of both Rutgers and non-Rutgers NIL money. Relationships won out here with the Harper family and Ace’s ties to Brandin Knight and Dylan.
@@thescarletfaithful -thanks I saw valuations of between 1.6 and 1.8 million but don't know if they are reliable
@ it’s very hard to know. No transparency here. From what I’ve gathered figures are often inflated in both college hoops and football.
Great interview Aaron! Lots of great insights from PJ
What a great guy Let the shots fly!
Good grief, can the season just start already!
How much are Harper and Bailey being paid ?
Since it's election season, I'll paraphrase that great prognostircator Arthur Fonzarelli (Fonzie) "I like Pike, my bike likes Pike, I have every belief the defense will be there by January." The only question is whether the centers can develop enough to at least slow down other elite centers.
i am high on rubball this year... regardless of the loss to st johns.
Indiana, Illinois and Purdue look like they have work to do. Bailey being a high screen for Harper will open the lane or the corner shots. Don't be surprised with Rutgers not playing a true 5 for 10 to 15 minutes per game...if Martini is playing the 5, he will take the baseline 3. If Bailey plays the 5 , everything goes on offense. On defense, Rutgers will either press or run a trap 1l2 court ..play the trap 5 minutes at a time and give those guys a rest at afterwards.
If they learn to play defense on a high level, I believe they will have a chance. I trust that Pike will get them rolling in that respect.
That will soften the blow of the football season.
My frustration is seeing other similar programs elevate, other coaches out scheming opponents when undermanned, and depth that doesn't have impactful players. It's disappointing in Schiano 2.0 year 5.
@@jpcatapano well said.
They have taken the next step. Backwards. Rutgers is looking at a decade of humiliation. Teams are fighting to have RU as their first home game opponent. Penn State couldn't recruit for 5 years and they are #3. Can we stop the charade and start the discussion of going back to Division II? My God Army is ranked 21st and they actually have to go to class and pass exams.
Best of luck to Rutgers moving forward. FightOn #USC
Sorry im a Trojan fan for over four decades....Trojan were without 6 starters on defense we were playing too soft. You have a great running back and a good team but dont whine about your players missing as i said we had 6 starters missing on defense. But that makes the game , but live and die with your team that is what real fan is. Fight On
@@michaelcoyne8572 I wasn’t whining. Ignoring there are key injuries when reviewing the game is negligence. Never said it was an excuse. I should have pointed out USC’s injuries too though my apologies. The difference is Rutgers hasn’t developed any depth behind the starters. USC has 50 4 and 5 star recruits. Doesn’t guarantee success but when you are Rutgers, not developing any depth has led to this type of season. The defense is a shell of what it used to be. Good luck the rest of the season.
@@thescarletfaithful again
@@thescarletfaithful Didnt mean to say your whining and blaming the loss on injured players. I find it interesting how fan bases take the games which is why i tune into other posts on the teams the trojans play. I cant believe some trojan fans. Nil is a dangerous stree, as we had a five star recruit from Alabama who came in and demanded more Nil then complained of not enough play time and red shirted to transfer out. Keep up the good work and hope your teams problems ease up.
@@michaelcoyne8572 thank you all good!
