XbotGo Chameleon vs Veo3 - Side by Side Comparison - Soccer Video
Xbot Chemeleon vs Veo. Camera placed in the same spot. Veo3 is several feet higher than Xbot. Xbot at about 13-14 feet. Note, I did not properly align my Xbot so it was not able to rotate enough to cover the left corner on the near side of the field. I also fixed my zoom at 1.3x on my iphone 12 so it is a bit more zoomed than the Veo3. Still you can see where the xbot AI is not as good as it needs to be.

brilliant idea re the shelter, those tiny umbrellas as laughable and won't stop anything! What size tripod do you have? I messsgaed on your other vid about setup, would you be so kind to do a run through of how you set it all up for a football match? thanks
My Tripod is a 13ft max tripod. Neewer Heavy Duty Light Stand, Metal 13ft/4m Adjustable Photography Tripod Stand with Built-in Spring Cushion. I use an iphone 12. Typically use fixed zoom and turn off autozoom in the app. Zoom on phone fixed at 1.3-1.5x max. Frankly, I don't use the Xbot Chameleon as much as I wanted to. It is not water proof so high school games in the winter are a no go. Second, it just misses too much action. I can make better game films sitting in the bleachers with a tiny tripod 3ft high in front of me with my iphone mounted on it and just track the ball all game long. Xbot struggles to even capture the kick off each half or after any goals are scored. It is just not there yet for mission critical film IMHO
I've just myself one of these, I set mine up with smaller tripod it's all i have until new one comes it's like 6.5ft so not high. but it wasn't tracking anything at my training session? Does it need to be a much higher height for it to track? Also does the ball need to be on the centre circle to begin tracking the game? I'm a little lost at the moment as it's not to clear on how to set up the chameleon. Hope this makes sense, thanks
Camera, center of the field. Should be 11-14 ft high on a tripod. The app tells you all of this. The camera will eventually start tracking the action but it struggles with kick off and corner kicks and starts searching around if no one or the ball is not moving. It is a major flaw.
Do you use the Xbotgo stand they sell with this camera or do you have any other recommendations for a tripod replacement ?
No, i bought a Neewer tripod that is 13t high off of Amazon
Hi, I really appreciate you making this video. It's good to see it run side-by-side. For months I've been looking for a suitable Veo alternative, but there just doesn't seem to be anything even close to the quality of the video. I coach U8's and U11's football and although we could raise the funds for a Veo, we just couldn't afford the monthly running costs, sadly. I have been monitoring the progress of the xBot but just not quite sure it's quite there yet in terms of quality and consistency 🤔
I would say it is not quite there. I catches about 90% of the action but you are not guaranteed to catch the more important action.
unless you're prepared to pay x5 times the amount and then a very expensive sub per month then this is the closest you'll find.
Thanks for the comparison! Its come with rugby mode?
No specific rugby mode. I would just try using american football or soccer mode.
Wow thanks for the comparison, I appreciate this which is absolutely what I was wondering. Have a great life dude!
Thanks, you too!
trying to find something to use to record my U15's football and this might be the thing. I don't want to spend thousands on a Veo sports camera with monthly fees. Might be worth a go?
Honestly, if you just mount an iphone on a tripod with a fluid head and are willing to do the panning yourself, that is really cheap, and better than the XbotGo. You just have to be willing to film while watching. I've done many soccer games in high school stadiums that way. I was hoping XbotGo would take over but the reality is that XbotGo is not as good as me and it is not water proof which is a death blow for Northern CA soccer games in the winter. It rains quite often here.
@@Onthebackhalf that's a shame. I manage my 'soccer' team so wouldn't be able to film myself whilst they are playing sadly. Maybe it's back to the drawing board?
Hi Scott, I recently bought the Insta360 Flow Pro thinking it would be similar to the Xbotgo, but it’s not. I need to return it, and now I want to buy the Xbotgo after seeing the amount of quality it has shown over the last few months. However, I’m not sure if the gimbal works like the Chameleon. Do you think it’s worth it or not?
I don't have the Gimbal so I can't comment. Insta360 I have and unfortunately it will not work for a soccer game on a full size field. Everyone appears too small. However, an Insta 360 in 180 degree mode might work for a basketball game or an indoor futsal game. i have never tried it but I think it might work ok on a very small court.
Looks like the Veo was higher up which gave it an advantage when the ball game to the near sideline. Overall the Veo clearly worked better. Of course at a higher price and not useful when wanting to do some more advanced production with replays and more clunky when trying to do live-commentary due to the 90-120s delay in the video.
Higher up means you have to move the camera further away from the sideline to get the area at middle field in view. I was slightly more zoomed on the XbotGo camer which was lower but Xbot says it should be lower.
Thanks for the comparison. I really like the VEO better. I just ordered that Chameleon, and thought I made a mistake... until I saw that the veo costs 3x more than the Chameleon. 😅
The subscription fees are what kills you on the VEO. That camera is worth it and they have specials but only if you buy the tripod and the subscription with the camera. Annual recurring revenue model for them.
My goodness, that's a shocker of a field for the girls to play on. Seriously compacted and zero markings. None the less, great videos on your channel, Scott. You've got access to multiple AI cam systems, with Hudl, Veo and Xbotgo. I've used Veo to supplement my games coverage, but it's expensive. Wondering what you think of the Xbotgo setup?
See my video that has a side by side comparison between the VEO 3 and the XbotGo Chameleon. Same game same field position for the camera.
yes, the fields at the ECNL Showcase at the Surf fields in San Diego are too small.
Thank you for sharing. Any chance you can share an example with the zoom on the iphone at 1.0x? Just wondering what a 1:1 zoom ratio would look like between the cameras. For example would you capture the close sideline?
i forget if the Xbot software forces you to use 1.2x . If you were to use 1x zoom or less and did not allow Autozooming via the software the kids would look very small on the far side of the field.
Hi Scott, in your reply to @Onthebackhalf you said "I would not allow it to zoom automatically. Turn that off and keep your iPhone at 1x zoom". Could you explain me why not? Is the auto-zoom not funcitioning well? And why not 0.5 fixed zoom? I want to purchase the Chameleon, but I'm still looking for some info first, before it can be shipped to The Netherlands.
.5 x zoom everyone looks like ants even on the near side of the field. i think the xbot software defaults to 1.2 x zoom. 1.3x works best for me in terms of seeing players both near and far sides of the field.
Hi Scott, can you tell me a bit more about the settings you used? Speed of pan, angle view, auto zoom?
autozoom was off. I usually use like 120 degrees or slight more for the pan angle and I was using pan speed of 500. They have had a recent firmware update again so I may try the defaults to see if they work better that the origin firmware.
@@Onthebackhalfon veo3 or xbot?
Hi, Any phones can be used on the mount or it is only iphone?
answer is easily googled or on their website. xbotgo.com Copilot works too.... XbotGo Chameleon supports a range of smartphones with Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 CPU or newer and Apple A12 CPU or newer processors. Here are some of the recommended phone models: - **Apple**: iPhone 11 or later models - **Samsung**: Galaxy S21/S22/S23 series, Galaxy Z Flip3, Z Flip4, Z Fold4, Samsung W22, W23 Flip - **Google**: Pixel 7/7Pro - **Huawei**: Mate 40/Mate 50 series, P50/P60 series - **Xiaomi**: 11/12/13 series, Mi Mix 4, Mi Mix Fold - **Sony**: Xperia PRO-I, Xperia 1 III, Xperia 1 IV, Xperia 5 III, Xperia 5 IV These phones are compatible with the XbotGo Chameleon, allowing you to take advantage of its advanced sports tracking features. Does this help with what you were looking for?
Hey mate, great video. Can I check what height is this at? 13 feet?
@@muhammadfaisalsarnap6586 that video was filmed with my tripod position in the bleachers of a small stadium so I was significantly higher up than 13 ft above the field level. I don’t know the exact height maybe 20-25 feet above field level
I just recently purchased the same camera. How high did you out the camera?
13-14 feet
What’s the height on the tripod?
13-14 feet
Thanks for sharing Scott, I''ll be recording the first game for my daughters U15 team for indoor soccer ,1/4 field , 7v7, a ny recommendations for settings? I won't be streaming but will b e in the future.. Thanks!
Hmm I have not tried a futsal game yet. The challenge will be setting the camera up a reasonable distance from the court. You want to minimize panning as much as possible. I’ve been slowing the tracking speed down to 500 out of 1000. Also you might want to change the default pan angle to be smaller than the default angle. I would not allow it to zoom automatically. Turn that off and keep your iPhone at 1x zoom
@@Onthebackhalf Thanks for the quick reply Scott.
@@Onthebackhalf Thanks for getting back to me Scott, did you notice any differences with the firmware update?
@alanyuen8271 I'm still waiting to receive mine, also going to record my team's indoor 7v7 league games. Please share your thought (no matter the good or bad) when you start recording your daughter's game would be appreciated.
It seemed to me that it was doing a better job of tracking the action. Here is the video that was created post firmware upgrade. ruclips.net/video/4zbkVArInJc/видео.html
Thanks for replying to the comments! What speed do u have the settings on? Your settings seem to be smooth with the LR movement!
I tend to not use zooming and I set the tracking speed in the app to 500 rather than 1000
Did you use xbotgo chameleon ? What were the settings?
No this video came from a Hudl camera
Is there a way on the recording to remove the XboxGo watermark and the time stamp in the corner?
No. You would have to remove it in a video processing software app
thanks for the video. was thinking about buying this but prob holding off for now. the camera movement is way too jerky and too often not focusing in the right spot.
I’m posting a more recent video after a firmware upgrade and right on the center line of the field at recommended height. See my lastest post. It is at 720p because that is the highest resolution you can live stream at and simultaneously record.
Also this night video is very zoomed in and it was a practice session with lots of balls on the field, etc. not representative. See most rent post for a real game video after a recent firmware upgrade
hi Scott is this using the chameleon?
No this is from a Hudl camera.
Hello Scott, do you think is a good camera for record football senior matches? Thank you.
Hi. This is my second test at 2.5 meters high and 2 meters from the field line. A few times it got lost but all in all it didn't go terribly. Let's see how it goes at the next game away from home ruclips.net/user/liveYEgFyscqwhk?feature=shared&t=606
I posted a recent video after XbotGo released a firmware upgrade. Check out my latest post and judge for yourself. There is 40 minutes of video under pristine conditions. 73 degrees and sunny.
@@Onthebackhalf Thank you Scott
Thanks for the real life review! Seems pretty impressive for the price compared to the insane pricing of sports ai cameras + their mandatory monthly subscriptions. Have you tried streaming a game live onto something like RUclips? I can't make many of my nieces soccer games due to my work schedule. Would love to find a way to stream them. Thanks again!
I have not tried live streaming via RUclips. The Xbot app does allow you to stream via their servers. I tested it and it works at 720p . It is free to stream.
example of youtube live streaming: ruclips.net/video/NWN_7B2RZRQ/видео.html
I have now live streamed a game using Xbots free streaming service. It worked well. You can only stream at 720p resolution. It simultaneously records while streaming but also at 720 p
Is there a setting that would minimize/adjust the L/R/L/R movement? This device looks like it would work great for my kids' soccer games. However, for basketball, some videos I saw constantly moves the video L/R/L/R as it seemingly tries to keep the ball centered. This continuous L/R/L/R movement would make the viewer dizzy. So is there a setting that would minimize/adjust the L/R/L/R movement?
the software say you can limit the pan angle from 120 degress down to 60 for example but it seems like the robot does not pay attention the limits i set in the phone app. best to reduce or not use zoom. I keep the zoom fixed, it only makes the excessive panning seem worse when zoomed in and you will get sick watching it.
way too much camera movement. nauseating. like the zoom thou
yep, you can zoom in too much because the robot pans the camera too fast. If you are less zoomed in the video is easier to watch because the fast panning is more "forgiven". If you are zoomed in and the robot pans fast, it is nauseating to watch the video when there is a lot of panning going on.
I think I am at a 3x zoom on my iphone normally. I stick to 1.3 to 1.5 max. Less zooming and slow/smooth panning usually is best, robot or no robot when filming games on an iphone or camcorder.
Hi, thanks for your objective comments! But does your equipment meet the angle limits you set? I honestly don't understand if mine does. I'm experimenting with recording basketball games but I'm still not very happy. Do you suggest standing on the sidelines or going up the bleachers abundantly? In the video I'm attaching I'm pretty close but I could really get up a bit ruclips.net/video/NWN_7B2RZRQ/видео.html
Yes, i have a 14 ft tripod that I set up on a soccer sideline to be about 11-13 ft high. In soccer I can get further from the field so I am about 6-10 feet from the sideline. In basketball, i would use fixed zoom of 1x on your phone and I would put a small tripod in the stands at mid court maybe just a 3-4 foot high tripod since are in the stands. Unless you have lots of room courtside. That is my best guess at what might work well. I have not tried it.
Interested in producing the sun shade you made for the iPhone, lol? I need one badly…
I’ve seen some options on Amazon. If you have a 3D printer you can download, modify and print your own. That’s what I did. Thingyverse has options for 3D printing.
What were game time temps? No issue with your phone overheating? Looking into this system so thanks for the upload.
Both games I recorded were pretty hot, probably in the 90's. It's very hot where i live and my phone overheats sometimes when it is 100 degrees in the shade. it is an iphone issue not Xbot.
even the new VEO3 has a built in fan now that is visible.
Putting an umbrella on on the tripod to shade the phone helps.
You can buy a “gamer” shade which is much more compact on Amazon. I 3D printed my own and show it in one of my other posts.
@@Onthebackhalf I'm having trouble finding it on Amazon. Is there a certain brand or product number? I need it because my umbrella catches any breeze.
I am having issues with my scanning the whole game. Am i missing something.
maybe not, it the ball is going out of bounds alot like it will in rec vs comp games or play is stopping alot, you may find it starts searching around for something moving. They have an over 14 and under 14 years old mode which i don't understand other than maybe the speed of play for over 14 or the size of the players effects the AI tracking. Must have trained the AI model on two different data sets.
Scott, how's the phone protector working for you? I'm considering one too, couldn't find any decent "umbrella" yet. Thx
It works pretty well. Doesn’t catch as much wind as the umbrella and it is white. The unfortunately I live in and area that gets above 100 degrees F and my phone will overheat even if not in direct sunlight. It’s not a Xbot thing it is an iPhone thing.
For a $400 AI camera in comparison to the veo or pixellot that’s over 2k, seems like it does pretty well..
It is not terrible but it does get lost particularly on set plays. If the ball is not moving it starts looking for player movement and vice versa.
Currently, the original Xbotgo works better for under 14 9v9 games.
how does it do when therer are people / parents and coaches on the sideline and or coaches walking by and kids subbing on and off the field ?
I have only had my camera on the parent side of the field so far. I am curious how it will do at a night game. I have the feeling it will be rough.
It does OK with people moving around but I would try to place the came in front of parents rather than behind them.
This will do for my kids games. What size tripod are you using ? And phone ? Thank you
I have a 14' tripod. It is a Neweer that I bought off Amazon. iphone 12. I am tempted to make an adapter (3D print) for my video camcorder and just shoot the game without zoom at a fixed length. My camcorder has less issues with over heating. I 3D printed a cover for my camera that is white and helps keep the heat down on the iphone.
What height are you filming from, and what Phone are you using?
iphone 12. I typically put the tripod at about 10-12 feet.
How long did shipping take? Mines been almost about 3 weeks, they haven’t replied to emails
Mine arrived in 5 days, shipped directly from Hong Kong. They might be ramping up delivery now
Mine took about 10-12 days or so.
Do you think fixed zoom is better vs auto zoom?
I think fixed is better in my opinion. the zooming is in consistent, makes me nauseous, and I am more interested in see more of the field and the shape of the teams. My personal preference is to turn the zoom off right now.
this is out of the box football mode or one need to set up something? livestream mode available?
yes, there is a live stream option. What you see is out of the box football/soccer mode. I think i slowed the motor/tracking down though and turned off zooming. The problem with the live streaming is that you have to get all the going on your phone and get the game recording on the same phone. logistically it is a pain. I have not tried the apple watch monitoring. I would need to steal my daughter to try that.
What is your tripod height?
10-12 feet but it can go higher. My biggest complaint is that you need another device to monitor your iphone! Logistically is a bit of drag to setup a game.
Nice video! With the Veo controls in frame it has that authentic, camcorder, bootleg-like vibe of those old school VHS tapes ppl would to sell on the street of current movies recorded over the the heads of other theater goers, still in the frame of the shot.
A full game 4k how much gb does it need?
Usually I film at 1080p/30 fps. I think 80-90 minutes ends up being about 6GB per half so 12GB total. If you shot 4K at 30 fps you are usually talking about 12 GB per half or 24 GB total
How high did you have your camera ? We just got one for soccer and I'm curious how it will look at different heights
10-12 i think. I think they (Xbot) does not recommend putting it much higher than 11 feet. I thought i read that somewhere.
@@Onthebackhalf 16 ft is better is records better the opposit side
Yeah I’ve been at 14 ft or so lately which is better than 11-12
Scott thx for sharing. Are you having to track it with the remote every so often? Seems like on a set piece the xbot gets lost every so often. Also, your auto zoom seems to work better than what I have experienced.
I am usually turning off the auto zoom now. when you are zoomed it is makes the panning back in forth worse to watch on film. Stay zoomed out with your iphone on 1.3-1.5x fixed zoom and that seems to work ok but the AI is not good enough at keeping up with the play and have zoom on IMHO
Did you end up keeping it?
Yeah, i kept it. Hopefully the AI will get better. it needs work. It is not waterproof and I bought it winter games at night.
This is pretty impressive, if it somehow managed to pan/tilt a little smoother it would be amazing
i feel like it over tilts a bit but that may be why Xbot, i thought, recommended not putting it up higher than 11 or 14 feet, i can remember which.
awesome game!
Looks good, thanks for sharing. Does it not zoom in when it’s the other side of the pitch? Is this the stand it comes with as doesn’t seem that high to get a better view of the pitch? You happy with it though?
No, i bought my own stand. It is a neweer brand one that I bought off of amazon. I deliberately turned off the autozoom because i did not like it in a previous video that i made. I just fix my iphone at about 1.3 to 1.5x zoom and film without zooming.
honestly i have not played with it enough. I have access to a Veo3. I got this so that I did not have manually record my daughters high school games this year. I think this misses too much action right now and her games are at night and I usually video from the observation booth in the stadium. I doubt the Xbot will track from that far away from the field and it will probably have trouble with the light conditions and the weather. The Xbot is not water proof which is a fatal flaw for winter games in Northern CA.
Pan angle and speed? How far you set up from sideline?
6-10 feet from the sideline with camera mounted at about 11-13 ft high. I wish I could lock the tilt angle but it seems you can't. I feel it over tilts downward too much for my taste. Pan angle is set to 120. I tried changing this in the software but the AI seems to override the limits for example if i set it to 60 degrees of pan, it still seems to go to 120.
