    I do this all the time but di and wet signal on different channels. What’s the advantage of recording to one stereo channel instead of having two mono channels? Or in my case one stereo (wet signal) one mono DI.

    • @mammothaudioengineering
      @mammothaudioengineering 11 дней назад

      The advantage to me is less channels to deal with and thus a cleaner session and also super easy to export and send to different people. I never record a stereo wet of guitars, personally, but if that's what you need for your stuff, this obviously doesn't help.

  • @mutt4537
    @mutt4537 11 дней назад

    I absolutely have to try this! Would I have to look out for any of the individual tracks having issues with stereo or mono plugins and does this affect stem exports in any way?

    • @mammothaudioengineering
      @mammothaudioengineering 11 дней назад

      Thanks for watching! About your questions: 1. No, just use a stereo track to do this, slap on Mix6to2 and then treat it like any other track, really. You can even still treat it like a stereo track and use stereo effects, if you don't feel like using a parallel FX channel. It can affect stem exports if you want to export raw without plugins, but that's not really an issue either as any DAW could just split the stereo track after / during import if it doesn't have a plugin to isolate either side of the stereo track. I hope that answers your questions!

Random Instrumental OST from an anime with an insanely good opening? Why not! BMTH ¿ follewed by AmEn and then to finish the session Can You Feel my Heart? Sounds about right to me! "What happened that we got to this point?" I think it's because social media turned everything on its head with the algorithm. You only get to see things that are already similar to what you like. Liked a cat video on instagram? Here's a billion funny cats for you to check out. Same thing with music and Spotify. I obviously can't verify this, but I do think this whole thing has a play in it.

    So you don't use any auto tune on any of the vocal tracks? I want to record my own vocals for my own songs but I'm not a confident singer and I'm trying to figure out how you got such clean vocal takes for everyone, especially the timing for it. Vocals are so hard man

    • @mammothaudioengineering
      @mammothaudioengineering Месяц назад

      Don't get discouraged, vocals ARE hard! I'm just trying to make some of the aspects easier when it comes to production. I definitely use pitch correction on vocals in my productions with almost all bands as that's the sound the listeners expect - in that regard, in case you don't like the heavily tuned sound: just don't be too heavy handed with it and it'll still sound very natural!

    • @ShatterScript
      @ShatterScript Месяц назад

      @@mammothaudioengineering i guess i was asking more for the video, because you didn't talk about adding anything but everything sounds so well timed. I dont mind using auto tune in my productions either way. I am running into the issue of actually doing the vocal composition too, i have no idea which notes to try before actually recording them. Is there an easy way to figure out how to harmonize/layer things before actually recording takes? I usually compose most/all my instrumental in guitar pro but i have no idea how to plan the vocal composition before recording, and actually recording/rerecording ideas sounds very time consuming and tedious.

    • @mammothaudioengineering
      @mammothaudioengineering Месяц назад

      @@ShatterScript My bad! Yeah, editing and tuning is most definitely a step in almost any contemporary style, so once you got the right performance, definitely take tune and time adjust. About the writing aspect: it's hard to convey how to get this right in a comment, but there's generally two ways for me. I either write a melody and fit the words to it or I write lyrics and just improvise until I find something I enjoy. When I arrive at that point, I might change up the lyrics to make the melody work better or easier to sing, depending on the song, of course. Once I got the main melody, I like to at least harmonize on key words of the part or if it works and the song has the space for it, the whole section. I like harmonizing in thirds, fifths, sixths (which technically are the same as thirds, just an octave up or down) and sometimes octaves. You also don't need to stick to just one interval. If a third up sounds good on the first phrase, but on the next a fifth or sixth sounds better, just jump around! Also fun harmonizing trick: follow the chord progression. Stick to the root note and let the main vocal carry the melody while the backing is almost static!

      I think you came to the right conclusion but your reasoning is very off to me. "Irrevocably excused himself from the band" downplays the suicidal thoughts quite a bit and makes it seem his suicide was about quitting the band somehow. I'm sure that's not what you meant, but I'll add anyway: his death was not about leaving the band, I would presume. nor is that the reason the Band has every right to move on. She could not hold a note, timing was off and her voice was cracking and cutting out. Then we have the issue she was unable to put any feeling into the songs. The songs that LP made with Chester all had a back story and Chest could make you feel it, Emily could not. Agree to disagree - I thought she sounded fine singing the old songs. Yes it's different, but as a fan of their old stuff, I'd rather hear a new and fresh take rather than a copy of Chester.

      @@mammothaudioengineering Agree to disagree - The older LP songs is not her style and sounded bad. No one is asking for a copy of Chester just think Mike could of found someone better to start a new chapter with New songs. Sorry But not going to be LP with two missing members just like Kiss.

      Static x is just as bad ass without Wayne. Proof is the sell out shows. Mike canceling LP just because Chester decided to divorce himself from the band would be a disservice to the band and the fans.

    My opinion on the whole matter is that multiple things can be true at once. It is absolutely true that Chester Bennington can never be replaced. But it’s also true that the band cannot be hindered by his demise for the rest of their careers, they love music, and the fact that he is gone, should not cause them to stop doing what they love.

    After Rob Bourdon pretty much cutting himself of from working with the band - I think the right turn to proceed with Linkin Park would have been to found a new band (as this means 2 of the founding fathers are not in the Band anymore). Getting a female singer for me seems the "easy" solution to the problem that a male singer would have always been compared to Chester. Dont get me wrong I do not hate on the fact that she is a woman, Id just rather have her in the Band working under a new formed Band. Also her being a Scientologist feels icky. Scientologist believe that all mental problems are spiritual in nature and that there is no such thing as a mentally incompetent person. But clearly a lot of things that happened to chester in his young life affected his mental health in the years to come which lead to the fact that he took his own life. How am I supposed to support a singer that sings songs of a man who expressed his deepest pain and worries in songs but actually does no belive in such things as a part of her "religion." So as a Fan of LP (as much as I want them to be able to move on) I cannot support this (eventhough she can sing very well).

      I am not sure I necessarily agree about the new band thing instead of continuing it as Linkin Park but I do agree with a lot of the other points you made, especially the Scientology crap. However, having heard the horror stories of how members of that cult get pressured and even threatened, I wanna give her some wiggle room there.

    DUDE, they're turning LP into Evanescence 2.0 . How lame. PERIOD. These 🤡🤡🤡 should've hired the singer Toryn Green instead. He would've done the band justice.

    I, as a huge LP fan am excited for their return and love the new addition..2 bands I do not listen to anymore... Journey and Queensryche... BOTH replaced their leads with someone that imitates the original. WHY??? I think k it's disrespectful- So I'm glad they didn't bring in a Chester impersonator - My heart still breaks everything I hear LP, but life goes on and I'm just glad the guys are back .... with a bad ass chick!!!!

    Your point to this video is absolutely spot on. Too many of us seem to like the journey of tone and finding the next best thing... rather than exploring what we have.. and I am so insanely guilty of that as well.

      Same though! New tones are fun, but there's always new tones to be found in what we already have. Even just switching around the order of some stuff will greatly change those tones!

    I may be adding something that everyone knows, but I thought it might be worth saying. When guitars have more than one pick up, they are not mixed together the same way as when signals are mixed together with a mixer, The same way that soldering a pair of microphone cables together on one end does not make a suitable mixer. Soldering two Guitar pick ups the same circuit doesn’t mix in a normal way. As soon as another pick up is added to the circuit in anyway the two pick ups begin affecting each other electromechanically. The result is strange interactions between the pick ups and whatever they’re plugged into.

    Programing drum fills is kinda difficult. Especially when you are not a drummer. I am not recording much metal but if I have to I definitely want to have some ready to go fills.

      Learning the very basics of how a drummer tends to move will help you a loooong way, to be honest! Just think about economy of motion and how many hits in fast succession a drummer can make with one hand at that will be more than enough to carry the project, for sure!
