All the guys in the comments are saying this guy is unsatisfied because he likes happy endings. NO, he is unsatisfied because the author disregarded a ton of prior foreshadowing, "don't put a loaded gun on a stage if you aren't going to use it" - Anton Chekhov; Inoue broke that rule of theatre hence the ending and epilogue are objectively poorly written. I think the best example is the character Hiroshi Morishige, this guy was clearly set up as the final antagonist of Sakuragi in chapter 187. Hiroshi is unsportsmanlike, arrogant and literally knocks Sakuragi onto his ass, Inoue deliberately made this guy out to be the worst kind of basketballer. The guy is even watching the Sannoh game from chapter 228 until chapter 239, reminding the reader of the tough battle that was still to come. After all that hype the guy is never mentioned again, I'm pretty sure we don't even know where this guy's team placed. I think Inoue decided to downsize his story in the last 30 or so chapters, probably because of how time-consuming his art-style is. I hate the ending, but I actually hate the epilogue more. It would have been so easy to tie up all of these loose ends in a proper epilogue, but instead we got an after-thought of a one-shot that briefly caught up with a number of characters only to immediately give every single one of them a cliff-hanger. What the fuck Inoue.

New Grappler is the 2nd part and I just bought the WOS version of it and I am waiting for it in the mail. I got it because it isn't in English for Baki and I was like, you know what I will just get it

Sargent Frog is Geniusly stupid and the best anime ever 😭

You know this anime has some similarities with Invader Zim, both shows are about a midget green alien and they’re cute quirky minions trying to conquer earth but always fail due to their own incompetence or interference by the human characters.

Sakuragi, in the end, realizing that after all this time he loved basketball and wanted to play it again-not for Haruko, not to impress her anymore, but because he truly loved the sport-is a great ending. Rukawa finally being able to trust his teammates enough to pass the ball is excellent character development. Miyagi becoming the next captain is a good choice too; he's reading about how to be a captain and is more strict than Akagi, leading to occasional fights with Mitsui (Mitsui’s poor stamina makes Miyagi’s training hard for him, which is funny). As for the others, it feels incomplete. I want to see Akagi play in the winter tournament and get offered a scholarship. Mitsui-I want to see him play without stamina issues, but that would probably make him overpowered and might overshadow Rukawa as the ace player. Still, I’d like to see him get a scholarship. He wanted to play in the winter tournament because he probably couldn’t pass any college entrance exams, unlike Akagi. Hopefully, if he performs well in the winter tournament, he’ll get a scholarship.

if I remember correctly, his publisher wanted to extend it but Inoue won't have full control of what happens in the manga so he decided to end it.

Slam dunk is still the best sports show ever,im only sad they didnt continue the ending but it is still my top 3 favorite anime

Personally, I never got a chance to read the manga but I loved the anime, through out me rewatching I genuinely cracked up in some scenes 😂 I really wish this series can get a remake. In all for Moka and Tskune but love kumuru 😎

Not Shonen but Clasroom Of The Elite and Mahouka koukou no rettousei are both long running and more on the light novel side but from (specifically my perspective) offer lots of time with the charaters in the world so readers like me can learn how everything works and we can know every thing about every character. Short series will rob people of that.

Everything that happened at the end was foreshadowed. Coach Taoka hinted all this weakness of Shohoku and they failed to fix it. Their bench/sub players are weak. The Practice game of Shohoku vs Josei High resulting to a 1 win 1 draw 1 lose showed that w/ out Sakuragi they are only as good as a Top 8 team. Which makes sense for them to lose against Aiwa a Top 4 team. Also, winning the national tournament was not the Protagonist's goal.. that was Akagi's dream.

You are right that the ending sucked and came out of nowhere. The morons are just lapping anything up. Inoue probably got bored with it or lost inspiration, like with Vagabond, but managed to at least crop up something for an ending so his personal flaw is somewhat hidden. The manga is great however and is worth reading despite the forced botched ending. Imagine tomorrow a new Vagabond volume is released, and surprise, it's suddenly the final one. The story would officially be finished. But would it really be? Same with Berserk.

Would love to get a hold of Battle Royale and Air Gear, but they're either hard to find or expensive as hell!

I still cry when re reading the ending. "I will be waiting, for the basketball that I love so much" It is one of my favorite endings in all of anime. Yes, they didn't win, they also made it further than other years. Sakuragi grew to love the game and Rukawa to be a team player. That panel on where the clap hands after winning gives me chills! Also, if you think about the ending of another series where they win it all, like Kuroko no basket, they had create a whole new plot convinience for the team to win. That's why Slam Dunk has magic, nothing was forced. Yes, they lost and gorilla couldn't get the scholarship. He will still work hard to achieve his goals. That's life, it doesn't suck because they all did amazing.

I totally get where you're coming from. It's reassuring to know others share the same feeling about the ending. The anime-and even the manga-are amazing, but the conclusion felt a bit incomplete, especially with all the build-up around Sakuragi’s journey. It’s not just about whether Shohoku wins or loses the tournament; it’s about the potential for more character growth. Sakuragi had just started to really find his passion and skills in basketball, and it leaves you wanting to see his progress-how he'd evolve after a year, or maybe even further, like into his college career. There's so much more potential to explore his future, both on and off the court. Anyway, I’d like to point out a Slam Dunk fanfiction by KnoT, where the story picks up a year after the manga ended, continuing Shohoku’s journey. Miyagi has become the captain, and Sakuragi has recovered from his back injury. The writing is fantastic, making it feel like an official continuation. The fanfic has 92 chapters and over 400,000 words. If you’re a big fan, I highly recommend checking it out!

This was my first anime, I watched it one Xbox Netflix back when you could invite friends and it would show your avatars together in a movie theater. I’ve always loved it, such a silly show.

I remember watching this anime for the first time when I was a big fan of jjba, then when I started watching the anime for the first time I was surprised when I heard kururu's voice because it is the same voice actir of DIO in japanese, also I just found out that tamama's voice is the same of jibanyan, one of my favorite yokai's!

I can tell you all that this is a great anime full of funny moments and just fun overall

I wouldn't say the dub is dumbed down. It just has a sprinkle of gag dub energy, which is fitting for this sort of show.

Thanks for the video, I was wondering whether or not to read the manga, but after the problems you laid out with the ending I decide not to read it. I have read Vagabond, another popular manga by the same author and didn't like the ending there. The problems I had with it are actually quite similar to the ones you talk about here. It's as if there were so many unfulfilled goals, the Vagabond manga hasn't officially ended, but you can tell the direction of the story stagnates and refuses to accomplish what was promised. Some people here talk about having to understand the ending or that it's about reality, but manga's aren't about reality, it's about exceptional stories. The artwork in both series is amazing, but the author seems to go for anticlimactic endings, which is unfortunate and leaves the reader with a bad taste in their mouth.

Jojo part 6 is nearly entierly out. Will you be collating that too
