These songs and videos are a window to my soul. Humor and heart are the primary ingredients for a slice of life pie you devour under an evening sky, never questioning why, but always asking, what would Porter Wagoner do if he were here? You know the answer. Go dig!
Willie Nelson - Songwriter (from the movie soundtrack)
A much overlooked classic from the movie soundtrack of the same name. One of his greatest. The whole album is great, as is the movie, which was a little too close to the truth for the music executives at the time. It co-stars the great Kris Kristofferson.

Gene Clark - Your Fire Burning (Final Concert - April 13, 1991)
Просмотров 4,8 тыс.3 года назад
While much has been written about Gene's last concert stand at the Cinegrill in April 1991, I would like to counter the general consensus that the event was a disaster. As proof, here is a live recording of "Your Fire Burning" from Gene's very last concert on April 13. I can honestly say this version is my favorite Gene Clark performance, bar none. The emotion is off-the-charts, both in his voc...
Kris Kristofferson & The Borderlords - A Night to Remember
Просмотров 7 тыс.3 года назад
Here's a classic Kris Kristofferson & The Borderlords song that's never been released (although an excerpt of it appeared in the movie "Songwriter" from 1984). There were a couple other great songs from the movie that haven't been released. The Borderlords were one of the greatest bands of all-time and were on fire at that time, along with their boss. They could play anything and rock like craz...
Gene Clark - Don't Let Me Down (Final Concert - April 13, 1991)
Просмотров 2,7 тыс.3 года назад
This is a song from Gene Clark’s final concert. After excellent versions of “Eight Miles High,” “Your Fire Burning,” and “She Darked the Sun,” Gene and band played an impassioned version of The Beatles classic, “Don’t Let Me Down.” While Gene previously covered the same song over 20 years earlier with Dillard and Clark, this reading is more soulful and hits you straight in the heart. Obviously,...
Gene Clark - She Darked the Sun (Final Concert - April 13, 1991)

Here’s a song from Gene Clark’s final concert on April 13, 1991. “She Darked the Sun” gets a full-blown Rock ‘n’ Rolling Stones style treatment and man does it work!!! This highly energetic performance stands as a testament that Gene and his band were making outstanding music the last time he graced a stage. Defying his inherent physical condition, Gene infuses this performance with a sexy swag...
Francis Hickory - The Veil (a song for Jackson C. Frank)

Five years ago, I wrote and recorded this song about Jackson C. Frank. I don't pretend to be a musician or songwriter, but recently I have been encouraged to post it. Jackson's music has had a profound effect on me. I hope he has found peace.
Francis Hickory - The Mess of It All

This is a song I wrote back in August 2016 when I was going thru a really tough time. This version is very impromptu. I haven't been playing my guitar lately, but this just sort of happened. Dedicated to my brothers and sisters.

Bridget St. John - Fly (Nick Drake cover)

This is a beautiful cover of "Fly" from the 2018 "Green Leaves - Nick Drake Covered" compilation, put together by MOJO magazine. Bridget has rarely recorded since the 70's, so it is very special. While Nick's version is the earnest plea of a young man, Bridget's is the resigned sigh of a woman in her years. A truly great cover version brings out something new in a song, and this is one.

Chris Hardy is a British guitarist and poet. His original composition, "Richmond Walking Song," comes from Episode 37 of the BBC radio show "My Kind of Folk, which was broadcast November 30, 1968. The episode was hosted by Jackson C. Frank. Hardy also accompanied Frank on a number of songs. This performance and recording was considered lost, only surfacing in the fall of 2017. A previously unknown stash of the BBC radio show "My Kind of Folk" has recently been recovered and restored by a collector and audiologist who have released these radio shows into the wild of the internet. Jackson C. Frank hosted Episode 37 where he was joined by the a cappella folk vocal group The Young Tradition and Chris Hardy, a whizz kid guitar player from a nearby college who accompanies ...
Jackson C Frank - Golden Mirror (1968) - Lost Song Found!
Просмотров 23 тыс.7 лет назад
In 1968, Jackson C. Frank returned to England to try and revive his musical career. Although he had some success, including a gig opening for Fairport Convention at the prestigious Royal Festival Hall and appearing on John Peel's BBC radio show "Nightride," Jackson couldn't find much work and didn't stay long. His deteriorating mental health didn't help any. Jackson's new material failed to win...

Francis Hickory - Always the Friend (Never the Lover)
His voice is gone. The cancer clearly at a pretty advanced stage
Can't believe I'm hearing this, thanks for sharing this and transporting me back half a century, lovely to share with a new generation who will keep his writing alive.
This is wonderful! I can't believe how much material of Jackson is on RUclips! I guess if you really are great and singing and writing songs your work will be heard eventually so never give up!
PS Jackson don't apologize if you mess up just keep going! What a sweet voice!
This video is in 144p so low bitrate. Do you have the original file to share?
For people asking whether there is another recording of Gene doing this song the answer is yes. Before the Cinegrill he had gigs with Carla Olson and they were recorded and issued in 1992 under the title "Silhouetted in Light". Here is the link to "Your Fire Burning" ruclips.net/video/ke6i4bJwStk/видео.html
Just went to an 80th birthday celebration of Gene at McCabes in Santa Monica, CA. His son Kai was there and sang this along with Carla Olsen. It was beautiful and heartbreaking. So glad this is here to listen to. Thank you.
Amazing to hear this
I disagree with Al Stewarts assessment. Whilst this is certainly more raw and has an ever deeper feeling of a man who is psychologically traumatised. It still speaks to me in some way.
Yeah that sucks he didn't get it.
So many people today have no idea what it was like to have lived during the years of artists like Gene Clark. These were people who were going their own way with much to say to the world. While they told us what was in their heart and their head it brought them the means and circumstances to be trapped by things that would make so much of their life so hard. I never heard a voice so insistent and lyrics from writer that contains absolute importance in each and every word.
Wonderful. Thank you for this!
Brilliant song.
Oh Yeah!!!!!---VTown Paddy Patrick
I remember him very well from the '60's. I lived near him for a period during his 'missing years', often wonding what was going on in his life, or even if he was alive. In a synchronistic turn of events, I got to know Heather Woods from the Young Tradition, who often wondered the same.
I love hearing stories of people who remembered him in person. Thanks!
Are there any plans to release "Golden Mirror" on a CD? Are there possibly any more songs that are in the vaults somewhere that were never released before? I have Jackson's album from 1965 but it would be great to discover more songs that were recorded after 1965 and now being discovered. It would be great if there were enough unknown but discovered songs from 1968.
Suzanne, yes Jackson did record more original music after 1965, although none of it was released during his lifetime. There were several sessions in the 1972-1975 time frame, as well as in 1993 and 1997 after he was rescued from homelessness. At that point his voice changed dramatically from all the hard living. However, in the '70s and '90s, anytime Jackson was well enough to write, he continued to write incredible songs, although they're not exactly in the same style as his 1965 album. All of these additional recordings have been reissued numerous times and are easily found on RUclips. If you want some recommendations of compilation albums, I'd be glad to give you some. As for 1968, no other song has surfaced except for Golden Mirror. We know he had other new songs written then, but there is no record of them in any shape or form. Maybe someday something will show up. I sure hope so. Jackson's 1965 is just one chapter in his musical story. There's not a lot of material from these other time periods, but they prove that his genius wasn't a one-time fluke.
Here's a beautiful song from 1972, one of my all-time favorites. ruclips.net/video/3zBm1UAAzTs/видео.html
Here's a classic from 1997, not long before he died. The sound quality is crude as it was recorded on a small cassette deck. His voice may be a shock, but this song is as good as any he's ever written. ruclips.net/video/A_4N05coN2g/видео.html
Gene Clark was like "No Other"!
Breaks my heart every time I’m listening
I posted a song on my channel... I'm thinking you would appreciate how powerful it is and so raw. I cried the first time I heard it and I'm thinking that you have the ability to feel music deeply enough to fully understand that bro.
I can't thank you enough for posting this! I only discovered Jackson Frank four days ago. I was hooked the instant I heard his unbelievably beautiful voice.
What a treasure!
Fantastic
My school
He did have an Elvis ambition, didn't he? This shows he was rocking right to the end, and does my heart glad.
Wonderful
In recent news, March 31st has now been designated a day of remembrance in erie county, with schools having a moment of silence (to my knowledge) This law originally started as a youth and government bill by a group of students from cleveland hill middle school, originally suggesting through the YMCA youth and government program for the entirety of NYS, before being contacted by Meyers to attend a meeting on the 21'st in which it was discussed.
Neat - the music has a traditional sound. The film of Richmond in 1968 looks quaint.
Brilliant
What a voice and musician! This version is breathtakingly beautiful and I am deeply impressed because of Gene's ability to send his great emotions into the hearts of the listeners. Most I love Gene's solo and live performances, I don't need anything else. But it's painful to know that it was his final concert. Thanks for posting, every song is a masterpiece and gift for those who feel him.
Gene Clark forever!💖
That's so sad and brilliant at the same time. GENE sings it like it's his song, his voice draws in the listener. It doesn't get any better, typically GENE. Thanks so much for posting this wonderful song. I love it a lot.
THANK YOU I've been looking for this song for years on here and I find ehh THANK YOU and Thank You Dad for showing me this movie and much much more I love you Dad
Willie makes his guitar talk
This song touched me from the very first time I saw it in the movie.
Thanks for sharing this lovely glimpse into the little known world of Jackson C. Frank. An amazing talent that left us wondering what more he would have shared if he had the opportunity.
Will always be my favorite Willie song
Gene Clark probably had more influence on my own singing and songwriting when I first started out many years ago than any other artist living or dead. Roger McGuinn influenced my choice of instrument (Rickenbacker) and my musical sound, but Gene heavily influenced my words and tunes. I met him on three different occasions, the most memorable of which was a show at Dylan's Cafe in Washington DC, I think it was mid-1988. Just Gene and his guitar and a little PA system, singing to an audience of about 30. No matter the size of the crowd, he gave it his all like he was singing to thousands.
He's had bigger and more famous hit songs, but this is my all time favorite Willie tune.
Sadly can hear the missing front teeth after car accidents. Hauntingly beautiful nonetheless….
Thank you for posting and for your feedback on the shows.
I can’t believe I’m hearing this. I’m so glad he continues to be revered and respected. One hopes that somehow in the next world he receives all the love he never got in his lifetime.
Anyone heard whether a 70th anniversary observation is planned for March 2024?
I know that Jim was trying to have the new Jackson Frank shown that weekend, but the distributor doesn't want to interfere with the film festival schedule.
So Honored to discover this 🙏
Early Tim Buckley vibes with Golden Mirror 👍
What a great find… love your humour👏👏
my mommas alive again, Everytime I hear this song or watch the movie . Damn she loved this song
Don't know if this was the Cinegrill but I went to two nights, the third being understandably cancelled, and Gene was not good. I had seen him as a solo or with a Gene band a good dozen times at least and the Cinegrill was a mess. The band were not hot, Gene was in bad shape, it was not a pretty sight. It was, in fact, heartbreaking. So your last sentence above leaves me gobsmacked.
According to John Einarson's biography, the Cinegrill was a five-night stand with April 13th the last. In my research, the first couple of shows were quite bad as you say. However, things began to jell as the week progressed. On the 13th, he came out and the first 5 songs were Gene at his absolute best, the band was cookin', it was the very best that he could do in that shape. After those initial songs, he tuckered out and the rest of the night was a bit haphazard, although the band was good. I've posted two other songs that opened that night, "Your Fire Burning" and "She Darked the Sun." Go check 'em out. In my opinion, "Your Fire Burning" is absolutely transcendent and stands as my favorite Gene live performance ever. It's incredibly emotional. However, your mileage may vary...
@@francishickory287 They sound ok here.
Recorded live in April 1991 and Gene died in May. So sad to listen to.

This is amazing. Does he actually have a British accent?
THANK YOU FOR SHARING FRANCIS HICKORY
