Why are PRS Guitars so polarizing?? Do you love them or hate them?
Просмотров 7028 дней назад
PRS Guitars seems to be a brand that is incredibly polarizing with people either loving or hating them. I personally fall in the “love them” camp but for those of you who can’t stand PRS guitars I’m curious what is it about them that you don’t like for those you like me, tell me what it is about them.

Sounds 👍 great
Thanks!
I am a Punk/Metal/Hard Rock guy in general... but I totally agree with you. I believe it might be the cleaner guitar tones that require CW players to play with more dexterity and articulation. Also, let's face it, a lot of today's newer Country players grew up listening to Eddie and Angus as well! I've always thought that Clarence White of the Byrds in their Nashville West era is a great player that deserves more recognition.
Couldn’t agree more on all points! Clarence is a hero of mine for sure. “sweetheart of the Rodeo” is a timeless masterpiece.
Good Day. I just found your site & subscribed. I really want an SG, but can't decide which one that I'll be completely "visually" satisfied with. Classic White or TV Yellow? Your guitar caught my attention while I was watching another video on the SG. I wanted to see how the TV Yellow looked for real, well, sort-a. I've always liked the Classic White, but... Excellent Video. Thank You & Best Regards. OK: P.S. In regards to ** "Add Plek Pro - The Holy Grail of Guitar Setups - $299.00 Give your new guitar perfectly leveled frets" ** from Gibson? Shouldn't the frets be "correct" new from the factory to begin with? Rather than having to pay another $300 to have a new guitar made correctly after the original assembly? IMO, that doesn't speak well at all for the "Quality" of Factory New Guitars made by Gibson. Fender didn't charge me extra for my New American Stratocaster HSS to be made correctly by the Factory. I want to buy a new SG, but WTF with this? Your and Anyone's Thoughts on this Please.
Seems odd but I guess they are saying it’s good from the start but could be perfect for a little extra? Like getting the “paint sealant” on your new car. Haha
@@6stringbelief Hi. But how can I be sure they didn’t just take my $300 and give me one off the production line that was made correctly to begin with? Same price as my American Ultra HSS Strat, and Fender didn’t ask for $300 more to make it right. That would put it in the “Custom Shop Realm”.
@@timmotel5804 that’s a great question. Not sure how you’d know actually.
Sounds good.
So cool
Thanks!
Agreed, sg is the king
It is!
I only need one: It sounds great. Well, it also plays great! And oh yeah! Looks fabulous. And weighs only 6.9 pounds. And is wonderfully laid out. I guess now I'm out. Mine is a '64 custom shop reissue VOS. Man. What a honey. And yeh ... these guitars are a combination Gibson and Fender, as is the original Firebird III. And mine DON'T neck dive!! Only thing about my SG that is hard to get used to, is that IT IS HARD AS HECK TO PUT DOWN!!
Sounds like you’ve found the perfect guitar! The ‘64 VOS CS is a heck of a guitar! I know why you can’t put it down.
Yes
🙌🏼
I think the long reach on an SG is uncomfortable. I prefer the Les Paul and 335.
I do love a good 335!!!
I'd say Clip A is digital and Clip B is the real deal.
Actually B is digital!
what’s the song?
That’s Link Wray’s “Rumble”
I could never point out what was exactly what I disliked about PRS. They are superbly made, they sound extremely well and have all the attributes one would like in a guitar, however, I always thought they were "too perfect" and lacked "mojo" or "soul". However I just recently heard the most eloquent comment regarding PRS from Colin, of The Guitarristas RUclips Community: He reckons we just didn't grow up seeing our Guitar Heroes playing one. I sure did not. I love Fenders because of Guilmour, SRV, and Knoplfer, love Gibsons because of Angus, Townshend and well, Knoplfler again, but certainly did not see any of my heroes play anything else. However, I've never seen any - none what so ever - guitarist play a Duesenberg and I am truly enamored by them. I don't know who Jeff Darosa is and certainly don't care for the Dropkick Murphys, but his signature guitar lives rent free (although I'm actually saving 3K to get one) in my head since the first time I tried one out at a store. That hasn't happened to me with a single PRS I've played. I did like the sound and feel of a Silversky the other day, but it's because it sounded and felt like my Strat. So no, I don't know why people hate them - I certainly do, but I think Colin is up to something and the fact that I can like another brand even though none of my idols play one is beyond that.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I think the “hero” thing definitely makes sense. Not a lot of our guitar heros play PRS… maybe Santana? But he was a hero long before PRS and with other guitars. Then there’s someone like Mark Tremonti. Maybe. Newer guitar hero… lots of other amazing guys have played them but none that are totally synonymous with them.
@@6stringbelief Yeah, Colin mentions Santana. He rose to the guitar pantheon with an SG Special, then the Yamaha SG2000 and it was until way later he picked up his PRS.
Certainly has maybe the most comfortable body shape ever designed. Tonally, I find the average Les Pauls have a neck pickup that can be too woofy and ill-defined, and a bridge pickup, that is, for my taste, a bit too nasally midrange focused. The average SG’s neck pup is less boomy, but a little too lacking in bottom end richness for me, and the bridge pickup is focused in a higher midrange, so it’s clearer and more biting than the LP, but still very midrangey. The average 335 has a neck pup that is full and rich, but not muddy - lots of articulation. And the bridge pup is more of what I personally want from a bridge pickup: treble, and not just a ton of mids. I have to keep the tone control on my 335 pretty much permanently set at 5, which I think is a good thing (I mean, that’s what having a tone control is for, right?). I also find 335s have a softer attack due to the hollow body. It gives it an almost compressed feel. Perfect for stuff like 70s RnB, soul, blues, Motown. My 335 and my Gretsch are the only humbucker guitars currently in my lineup. I struggled with getting tones I liked from humbuckers for decades, leading me to just stop playing them altogether for a number years until I decided to give them another chance about four years ago. That was when I got the 335, and that guitar finally turned me around on (certain) humbucker guitars.
I can’t argue with the 335 love! They sure are great as well.
Freud said if you have a tv yellow sg, you crave for a telecaster
I do love a good blackguard Tele!
How can you judge these pups with a lot of overdrive. What I hear is the digital effect of your multi effect. I can not hear the pickups and the difference between them. The sound stay the same but get darker with every stap. Try ;to play as clean as possible to hear the fine nuances between the two pups.
Thanks for your feedback and let me explain my thought process in my demo. I tried to play with at least some level of overdrive and at least a little reverb because I don’t feel like many players out there plug straight into a completely clean amp with zero effects. As a gigging musician and also someone who does a bit of studio recording, I’ve never been called on in a session or as a sideman to play completely clean. My assumption is that most players will be using some effects and some overdrive so that’s how I showcase the pickups. Perhaps I should make a follow up video in the manner that you suggest so that people will have the option to hear it both ways. Thanks for your comment!
How r you getting your affects?? Sounds awesome!!
Just using my Kemper profiler!
That's some pretty tasty playing 😊. The SG has a very Distinctive kind of playability. Zappa, Clapton and others fell Under it's spell. Rock on.
Thanks! Totally agree about the playability!
My SG also has no neck dive and the different neck position is so much easier to play than my Les Paul. Mine feels like an extension of myself. When I’m playing live I forget it’s even there…I’m just hearing the music
I can relate! I have a similar experience with my SG!
Will you please do a video about the Gibson Amp behind you?
Yeah, I should probably do that!
I have the latest SGs and Les Pauls. The SG is definitely the better sounding guitar, but the Les Paul gives the least resistance to the fingers when playing....or in other words one has to press down harder on the SG strings to play it whereas the Les Paul only requires a soft touch of the fingers in order to play and chord. But don't get me wrong, I love the way it looks, feels, and the way it sounds and I really love playing "Satan's Guitar".🙂
Maybe you just need a set up on the SG to get the action lower like on your LP?
Love the Jam!!
Thanks!
What amp are you using and what’s your rig rundown? Great sound and playing
I’m using a Kemper profile of a 1966 Vox AC30 with some reverb and delay added. Straight into Logic. And thank you!
of all guitars I find that I can smoke the best brisket with an SG
Mmmmm…. Brisket.
Well that was surprisingly pleasant 😊
Hey thanks! 😁
Awesome ❤😊
Thanks 😊
Sounds great..had one years ago, been thinking about another!!
They are really good! 👍🏼
Suhr sounds better. Great intonation, nice beefy pickups, can't go wrong with the classic T.
Yeah, it does sound fantastic!
Great playing man! I hope to be able to pick one up when I find the funds to!
Thanks and good luck on your search!
I loved those catalog guitars.
but at what price point does it make it the best guitar for the money?
Well the attributes I mentioned hold true from the Epiphone version all the way to custom shop.
Juicy tones!
Thanks Daniel! 🙌🏼
its true, a good SG Standard w/'57 Classics or '61 Burstbuckers (or one of each!) is all you really need to play any type of music ! I have 3 SG Standards ('17, '19 w/Maestro & '20 ) and they all RIP ! The 2017 Standard being the best one w/'57's !
That’s awesome that you found THREE good ones!! Congrats! 🙌🏼
The iconic Dickey Betts tone at the Fillmore was a '61 SG Standard. 'Nuff said.
Dickey was the greatest! Totally had his own unique style that was instantly recognizable!!
SG's are definitely more dynamic than most other guitars
Agreed! 👍🏼
1950'$ fender Telecaster all gold wins
Thanks!
*Promosm* 🤩
🤔
Very nice sounding guitar and your playing shows it very well.
Thank you so much!
As a player I fall into the all I need is my tele and nothing else. The collector in me has pulled me into owning a bunch of teles and hollowbodies. True split for me.
I think collecting stuff is cool, but I also feel like from a player standpoint you can get by with just a couple guitars for the most part so I think you’re right on target!
Great video! You can be both, player and collector. I play whenever possible multiple times a day. For that, I would say 3-4 are enough, for me personally a good Les Paul, Strat and PRS would be all I need. Maybe add one with a Floyd Rose. In fact I play the same 3-4 guitars 90% of the time, and they are not the most expensive ones I own. Having a collection of 60+ guitars (mostly US and JP models from the 50s to new ones), it adds the joy of switching to an instrument I haven't played for a while or even long time and get 'new' inspiration and joy. Just happened a few hours ago. Sometimes surprisingly different experience and fun. From time to time I sell a guitar, make profit and have room for a new one 😊 Cheers
Yeah, I can see how revisiting a guitar that you haven’t played for quite a while could be inspiring and maybe prompt some new ideas! Thanks for sharing, sounds like you have a huge collection!
Have you had any issues with these feedbacking?
None at all!
HAY BROTHER, BY FAR, I THINK THE SG I EVERYTHING YOU SAID AND MORE. I LOVE THIS PLATFORM BECAUSE IT COVERS JUST ABOUT EVERY GENRE OF MUSIC YOU CAN PLAY. FROM BLUES TO COUNTRY. JAZZ TO ROCK, AND SO MUCH MORE. I ALSO AGREE THAT THE SG IS ONE OF THE MOST EYE-CATCHING GUITARS OF THEM ALL. MY GRANDSON LOVES MULTIPLE GENRES OF MUSIC, AND WHAT BETTER PLATFORM TO PLAY THEM ON THAN AN SG. FOR HIS BIRTHDAY, I GOT HIM A CAPTAIN KIRK DOUGLAS SIGNATURE SG. THE BLACK WITH GOLD HARDWEAR. IF YOU'RE FORMILER WITH IT, CHECK IT OUT. GREAT VIDEO BROTHER. STAY COOL AND KEEP PUSHIN' ON... PEACE FROM CREEL CHIHUAHUA, MEXICO...
Totally agree! 👍
Rly good tone, reminds me a lot of hendrix's
Thanks! 🙌🏼
Great sound ...great playing.
Thanks Ken!
I'm thinking of putting gold foils in my Serus J. How well would you say they clean up with the volume knob?
They clean up really well! They retain clarity and brightness as you roll volume off.
@@6stringbelief Excellent! That's what I like
not all of us can afford a custom shop, how do you rate the lesser SG`s for the common man , any Custom shop is going to be good !!!
I started my SG journey with a USA ‘61 standard which was a great guitar! The design carries across the whole range so I really believe you can find a great one at any price range.
I love the way they sound. I love the way they play. I love the way they look. I love all guitars but I love Gibsons the most.
I have to agree in all points!
Out of my collection the SG and the Tele are my faves.
Me too! Good call!
I tried one, liked the sound but hated the neck dive. I would buy one again if I could find one where that wasn't an issue.
There’s more that don’t have it than do I’m convinced! Worth the search!
