Doug Addiction
Добавлен 16 июл 2021
Doug Addiction was created with the intent to share aspects of my personal health journey and to connect with and provide information to people with similar struggles. The focus of this channel is self-advocacy. We all deserve to feel our best and to be in good health, but the path to health isn't always straight forward. Sometimes there are obstacles put in our way and no one seems to have the answers needed to overcome them. As a doctor once put it, I have "been through the wringer" as far as my health goes, and often I have had to push for answers. Whether it be getting a second opinion, requesting a referral to a specialist, or seeking alternative medical treatments, I've done it all. I hope to share what I have learned and am still learning, with those who continue to suffer with similar health concerns so maybe they can have a swifter journey to good health than I was able to have. I'm not a medical professional and am not giving medical advice; just sharing what I have learned.
Concerta: One and a Half Year Update. Plus New Podcast Announcement!
I've been on Concerta (extended release methylphenidate) for a year and a half. In this video I run down the good, the bad and the ugly of my experience with this med (overall it's been fairly positive 😉). In addition, I'm joined by my oldest friend and Podcaster Raz! We are excited to announce our new collaborative podcast project Nerdodivergent X.

Treating My IBS with the Cellcore Protocol
Просмотров 3,6 тыс.3 года назад
After receiving the results of my GI MAP test my doctor prescribed a protocol of Cellcore products to treat my gut issues. In this video I quickly review my test results, describe the intended uses of the supplements I'm taking, as well as summarize the benefits and side effects I've encountered thus far. Here's a link to my previous video outlining my journey from diagnosis to finding the root...
IBS: My Journey, Struggles, and Finding the Root Cause
Просмотров 3,1 тыс.3 года назад
In this video I outline my experience with 'IBS' (which I believe is an umbrella term for any GI issues with an unknown cause). I describe the onset and progression of my disorder and outline the avenues I've explored in order to remediate my issues, some beneficial, some not, and others outright ridiculous. Finally, I discuss how I finally discovered the root cause of my GI distress and what m...
This is so comforting. Especially hearing you talk about medical anxiety, mine is pretty chronic. I'm in the process of being diagnosed right now, and I'm praying I can get the help I need. Stories like this give me hope! ❤
Hey fellow ADHD drummer! Thanks for the video!
What I first noticed was the calmness in my brain. quietness made me tear up.
I really enjoy the way you tell your story as if you're talking to a mate. May you be blessed with full health.
It’s comforting to see someone describe the levels of overwhelm in their ADHD. That is the largest difficulty with me and why I decided to get treatment
I wonder if you could not take concerta on the weekend and see if you could lower your drug tolerance.
Did your memory improve?
im almost 45 and recently got an official diagnosis. Also inattentive type. So many decades lost to dopamine seeking in alcohol, self harm, botched jobs, relationships, no solid education.. It's tough .. I relate to all your points.. My fear is that it is to late 😢. Haven't started meds yet though
2x speed was perfect
Me watching this in Europe at 7 in the morning and not having slept all night because sooo soo desperate to try the meds in a couple of weeks. My life at 44 with recent diagnosis is getting worse and worse
Here we are in comment section instead of watching the video my adhd brothers and sisters! 🙌
It's very generous of you to make these helpful videos. Thank you.
Same like me 20 yrs now everyday all day just try to get the poo out can't do nothin
Same. Walk in clinic. You have IBS. No scope. I'm now 51 and just got a GI doc. Finally getting a scope. Neg for celiac. Keep in mind I've been in healthcare for. 20 + years. Husband is an RN. I know all the GI anatomy, help insert G- tubes, GJ tubes, biliary drains etc... and I never persisted, insisted or pursued a more detailed workup. Like you at the time, I was like....I'm young this will just go away. Or, ok it's IBS. It's all stress related. Finally when I hit 50 I was convinced I needed help. I'm dead listening to your story about the homeopathic visit. 😆 Hey, at some point you're willing to try anything!! 😂
🌟🗽
Funny you talk about being distracted by background noises/music as you have background music playing.
Good call! However, there was no actual music playing while I recordthe video. I add the music after I edit the video to make viewing it more enjoyable. I definitely couldn't gather my thoughts had there been music playing at the time 😉.
I noticed less anxiety and more able to talk to people without worrying so much. I take 45 mgs with busprin as well. Doesn’t help me with being super productive or anything but it helps me immensely with my anxiety.
I've actually never heard anyone talk about concerta, so that was really interesting. :)
I had so many horrible side effects on concerta. Couldn’t eat without stomach aching. Start losing vision severely. Had trouble driving at night. Lights were blurred and blinding and I couldn’t see the lanes. My depth perception was impaired. Horrible joint pain. Irritable, frustration. But I was less overwhelmed and I didn’t have to take naps. I was on it for a year. Had no idea it was the med.
Did your eye site come back?
😂😂😂😂 never laughed so hard on a very serious topic. You are a very good story teller . I even forgot i clicked for my own gut issues. Couldn’t stop, Ended watching the whole video.
I tell people who are doubtful about ADHD meds vs lifestyle that the meds let you start and stick with the lifestyle changes. People who think they can do it with just diet and exercise are fooling themselves. Burnout is inevitable because those masks and maladaptive coping mechanisms don't work forever.
I am wondering if Concerta can be taken sporadically for activities that require focus, such as exams, long drives, or sports competitions.
I hope you are not offended but have your wife gotten the analysis done? I have heard from my doctor that nurodivergent people are highly likely to seek out people like them as partners. You can also read the book - Pattern Seekers. Lovely video guys. Sorry if I offended you 🙏
So….. it’s been 2 years since you did this protocol. I’m thinking of trying it. Was it worth it to you? Did you get better? Did your symptoms return after you finished the protocol? Please update and advise. All the best to you!
Unfortunately I did not have any lasting results with the protocol. Perhaps others have, but I myself won't be buying anything further from the company. Really watching my diet and a good probiotic are the only things that seem to reduce my symptoms and are the most sustainable. I really hope you find something that works for you 😊
@@dougaddiction3966thanks for sharing. I am struggling with IBS d and also bile acid malabsorption probably from SIBO. Have you read SupperGut by Dr. William Davis. He covers IBS and microbiome. I’m down to eating animal products and a few cooked or fermented vegetables. This past month I started FireFly treatments, 9 so far along with a binder, a parasite eliminating product and a toxin eliminator…
This has got to be the whitest thing I've ever seen
I am 44yrs old and have been diagnosed with ADHD. Today is my first day on Concerta(18mg). I'm about an hour in and I just feel calm and less aggravated so far. After a week, they said I can double it up. That's funny about the vision. I swear the colors on things looks better!😂. I also am not so easily aggravated.
Coffee doesn't paire well with concerta imo😄 also camomile for some reason 😅
Thanks to both of you. Very informative.
Have you ever tested for SIBO?
I admit I giggled when you were in the midst of it and said you weren't really feeling that much, but absentmindedly noted that you worked out, ran a bunch of errands and cleaned your house.
Agreed on the dr thing. I was paying money to teach my doctor and he never helped me. Taking the time to make these videos and thanks for these.
Im on day 2 of concerta.. things that made me feel awkward like eye contact feel normal now. I used to hate looking around when i forced myseld to the gym but today i stood at the weight rack and had no problem looking at people's faces lol. Ny instant people pleasing was also gone. Saying no to things didnt make me feel guilty anymore. Everything just felt neutral in a sense. I also had anxiety for so long it became my norm but thr last two days.. i felt so calm yet sharp and focused. The first day was the most intense though lol. I was kinda robotic and didnt laugh much cuz i was so intensely focused on what people were saying and how their tone of voice would change.
I suspected/realized I had ADHD at the age of 36 - Procrastinated at getting diagnosed, so only officially diagnosed during COVID at 44yrs of age. It was a relief to know that I wasn't to blame for all my 'faults' - stuff that surprised me as being part of ADHD were procrastination, immaturity, irritability. All these things have caused me some problems. Glad it's not my fault, but good that I can now do something about it. It's frustrating though when I'm telling people WHY I am the way I am and they dismiss it with comments like "Oh I also forget things" or "I get distracted too" - But hey! What can you do LOL Another thing was that I could see all these things in my father's behavior, so I know he isn't to blame for his faults...helped me understand why he does certain things...I have more empathy towards him.
Thanks for the info in this video..... I understand and get what you going through, as I had h.pylori, which led into SIBo and then IBS!
As for being late I set both my schedule and my brain 15-20 mins earlier and forget the actual time. If people ask what time it's at I say my changed time. I also think of when I need to leave get there for my modified time and make my leaving time 10-15 mins earlier to that. (If I figure I can make it in 15 mins I'll leave 25 min before) So if I have a 10:00AM appointment that I think i can get to if i leave at 9:45. Instead on my schedule and in my head I make the appointment time 9:45, and my leaving time 9:20-9:25 as if I'm trying to make the 9:45 time. Not only helps a lot for showing up on time, but cuts down on that terrible "lateness-stress" by a ton, especially when driving there. Also preparing everything I'll need for the next day the night before, from clothing, paperwork, phone, wallet etc... all in one spot can cut down on getting-ready time. These 3 things help me showing up, lookong good, and lowers my stress 100x, and makes me feel in CONTROL! Also never give in to "Well I KNOW it's at 10:00AM so I can slow down". That type of thinking is how you became a chronic late-person to begin with! You gotta stick to the idea that it's 15-20 mins earlier and act accordingly.
Thank you. Extremely helpful. I appreciate you sharing actual strategies that have worked for you. I can't recall EVER being on time. I was just tested and diagnosed with ADHD as an adult -- but it was obvious all along. My mom used to have to chase the school bus to catch it 'cause she couldn't get me out the door to get to the bus stop on time. One time, I was in my PJs, dressing in the car!
$4000? COST?
whats the cost for cellcore
I had that GI map test done too. Lots of tests. I went to the IBS Treatment Center, telemedicine in 2022. I had IBS for 31 years. I have many food allergies/sensitivities, the IBS Treatment Center found. I am doing so much better now. I wish i could get those 31 years back- i missed out on so many things.......
cost? results? info?
Didn't really work for me Kevin. No long term benefits unfortunately. Check out their website for costs
@@dougaddiction3966 After passing a long worm. no benes?
which cell core supps n whats the cost?
Being high on life can very exhilarating, as Razzle said, coming home to complete silence and being alone can be a scary feeling. However, I believe coming home to a bustling family with lots going on can help you come down off that high. It works for me anyways. Great conversation guys. I look forward to seeing more videos. Cheers!
You make a really good point. The importance of having a really good support system goes a long way, and can make a world of difference for our mental well-being!
a foot long worm
Exactly me! I just discovered at age 54 when I started seeing things with my daughter with ADHD past couple years. Thanks for sharing.
I felt deeply emotional the first time i took concerts 18mg too. Music hit hard, made me cry, got very irritated too. I am 19, 6ft tall.
Are you still using it?
He has a new video up giving an update. Check it out!
Thank you for sharing your story. How you describe your experiences is uncannily similar to what I've gone throughout my life! Only I'm not so fortunate with having any success at all. I've been diagnosed with ASD back when I was a kid. It wasn't until just last month that I fully realized it was ADHD that was wrecking my life. Not the ASD (though I do have a little bit of it; that was confirmed in an evaluation). I'm closing in on 36 now. I missed out on a lot of opportunities and been confused by for a long time why I can't seem to get anywhere. I'm making up for lost time by learning as much as I can about ADHD and I'll be talking with my psychiatrist soon to see if I can get tested.
This is very relatable. I've not seen much content from men with the inattentive representation of ADHD, and I identify with so much of this! Probably the biggest difference was that I actually did quite well with math, but I've always been terrible in doing math in my head, even quite simple calculations, and I'm pretty sure that's because of low working memory (I can easily remember only 5 digits, wherease the average is 7 - but my long term memory is good, I can easily remember all my friends' phone numbers from childhood, even though the numbers haven't been valid in decades). Thank you for sharing the video!

Wow!! How brave of you! Almost felt like you were telling my story. Thank you for sharing your story. My therapist recognized it in me a few months ago but I haven’t been tested yet. I just turned 65. I’m kind of freaked out but I am working on wrapping my head around it all.
