From 01' to 12' I worked as a sound tech for two different churches during that time. While at the second church we had a horrific storm come through the area one night and lightening ran in on the one amp that wasn't properly protected. The amp was a thousand dollar Yamaha in-line that was tied into a thrity-two channel mixing board. When the amp was installed whoever did it chose the only non-surge protected outlet in the booth to plug it into. I had mixing headphones on and felt a sharp sting on both ears at the same time the amp snap crackled and popped. I knew immediately that most if not all of the caps had blown by the white smoke coming out and the smell. Disconnected it from the outlet as a safety precaution. As it was still under warranty it was sent in for repairs and took three weeks to get back. We had to switch over to a cheaper Pyle temporarily. It was a lower wattage than the Yamaha.

Remote is there so the amp turns on with your head unit. Most of them have remote wire that goes live (connects to +12v) when your head unit is on so you don't have to have big switch or separate relay for the amp, and so it turns off with the head unit and don't stay on and drain your battery. So if you want to turn the amp on without the head unit you need to bridge remote pin to +12v of your amp power supply for the amp to turn on. Take a wire, strip the insulation at the end, press bottom plastic on the connector with indent on it with flathead screwdriver to unlock, hold it pressed and insert the wire in the hole, release the tab and wire will lock. You also need to replace 25A fuses (it accepts standard blade type car fuses) that are missing. Amp is soft on, does self test 1st, powers on, then turns on the speakers, so it may take few sec to turn on once the remote pin gets +12v. Some amps (rare, i don't think this one is like that) won't turn on if remote pin and power supply are connected at the same time, they want power supplied first, as they expect it should be connected at all times, and then after about 10 sec remote pin to be supplied with +12v in order to power on.
