Check out Brutality Skirmish Wargame!
Will do!
BattleTech still one of top fav skirmish fighting but BLKOUT becoming my new addiction (my replacement for 40k)
Infinity cardboard terrain packs are another option for some good cyberpunk terrain.
The problem I have with Legion is its VERY infantry heavy game. And almost all the infantry look the same. Look at the Republic for example. Its dudes in white armor with a few small changes. Take a few steps back and looks a a Legion game and you can hardly tell the difference in the units. Now take a step back on a Warhammer game and you can EASILY tell the difference. There are not enough vehicles or vastly different designed units.
The models and lore are super cool for CLACK. I can't wait to start collecting at some point after I get through my pile of shame a good bit
I definitely prefer Alpha Strike over Battletech, as it just plays better in my opinion. Alpha Strike can use hex maps as well and it works well enough
What do you think about paper terrain? The stuff you can print and fold yourself.
I think it's great as a start point but for the time and effort to make it it's not totally worth it
Another carboard terrain company is TinkerHouse Games. I have quite a bit of their TinkerTurf terrain. A couple of other MDF ones are Warcradle, Black Site Studios, and Death Ray Designs
Thanks for the recommendations!
Keep up the good work. I really like the links in the description, so I can easily find what I'm looking for when I come back to the video ! 😊
Awesome, thank you!
I bought Gang Stronghold for Necromunda for the equivalent of ~65$ and it is easily enough to fill a Kill Team table (even just a little too much, depending on the combination of pieces). It is good quality, nicely varied, very modular - pieces connect without glue - a great price for a full set of terrain for a KT board if you ask me.
So, I have what might be a controversial opinion, so take what I am about to say with a MASSIVE grain of salt, but I genuinely think MDF, FOR MOST TERRAIN, is undisputedly the best possible option to go with. The majority of complaints that I hear about MDF is that it is hard to make look good, and it tends to be very boxy. These complaints, I believe, come mostly from people who have crafted entirely in wargaming. However, I am somebody that has worked with scale models my entire life, from model trains to historical dioramas, you name it. I am no stranger to putting in some elbow grease. And genuinely, an MDF kit is easier to get looking solid than most things I am used to working with. If I have an option to buy HO scale MDF buildings, I take the MDF 99 times out of 100, because I have messed around with enough cardstock and plasticard to give me PTSD when I feel the texture, or smell the glue... I get that model kit companies like Games Workshop and others have spoiled people due to the sheer ease of making their kits look professional. That being said, what traditional plastic terrain makes up for in detail massively looses in modularity and the crafter's ability to add their own touches. MDF terrain is a blank slate, but with enough quality of life additions to set it apart from plasticard buildings. If you are willing to put in the work, like I am, MDF 100% is the way to go, if not, then look toward plastic or 3D prints. That's the distinction in my eyes, as somebody who has been doing scale models since his dad first put an F-16 kit in his hands at age seven over twenty years ago.
Totally agree. I got into wargaming back during the days of rogue trader. There WEREN'T any GW scenery kits, so you had to either scratch build or convert, and mdf was a godsend. So easy to work with. Yes, you still have to texture and paint them, but once you get your confidence up in what you're doing, it becomes very enjoyable and creative. Plus mdf kits are still outrageously cheap compared to any alternatives.
MDF and XPS foam will get you a long way with just a bit of glue, some sand and some paint.
And anything you make will be cooler and cheaper than anything you can buy!
Yep! I do agree on the 3d printer side of it
In the U.S don't sleep on GCmini Good simple stuff it's easy to plus up with some modeling.
Thanks for sharing
Take a look at Mantic terrain crate. Some great stuff there and very versatile.
I will take a look for sure!
I want to also add in Acid House Terrain for a great source of terrain. You can get on their website and they give ton for the price. The terrain is cardboard terrain tho.
Thanks! I'll look at them
@@Wargamerofalltrades which sets they have available varies from time to time. The terrain is like an entire 3x3 table worth for 100 euro, or 6x4 table for about 200 euros. Personally I have the fantasy and sci fi sets, and I love it for my frostgrave and star wars legion games OnTableTop briefly mentioned them years back: ruclips.net/video/tT54UgtapKo/видео.html
AHHH!!! YES! The cheap terrain video. I didn't expect it to come so soon. I love your content and hope your channel grows to be the largest in youtube.
Thank you! I thought about it a lot and figured it made sense to have it come out sooner rather then later
Dead Mans hand does have 2 plastic figure kits atm, but the crews are still metal. and will be for the foreseeable future.
I would've liked to know a bit more about what the games are about, tbh. It's nice to know that they're good, but i still know nothing aboit the games per se. Why does #8 need so many miniatures? Why are there 3 different games bundled up, are they the same, just different lore? Otherwise, links eould've helped with answering those questions too
See my issue is I see all these cool games and I spread myself out collecting a lot of different games instead of getting a few large armies
I have the same problem
The solo aspect brought me to opr. It is almost impossible to find a Warhammer fantasy game where I live
Thank you for mentioning ArcWorlde in your video! Really glad you like the game 😁
No problem! I'm really happy so many of my videos have been noticed by the creators of games!
Does it come with solo rules?
No it does not
ArcWorlde is fantastic. Such a unique fun fantasy skirmish game and the minis are brilliant. They also have lots of single faction starter sets as well. So you can pick whatever faction that takes your fancy.
A cool solo/co-op game called "when nightmares come" exists. Needs just a few miniatures, a 2x2 playing area and two sets of rpg-dice.
The add-on of zona alfa (which has allready a solomode) contains much new stuff for a solo-gamer. It is called "kontraband".
Just as idea for anyone who is interested about solo miniature games, but do not have (all?) needed miniatures: You can just have bases, add text like "error: graphics not found" and "ranger" and arrow to point direction where the character is facing. And maybe later buy and/or paint the miniatures (except if you are totally fine with this kind of way to play).
I absolutely love the lore and factions of age of sigmar I can wait for all the lore to coalesce over the coming years of war game development. I can't express how cool the Karadron Overlords and idoneth deepkin and fireslayers and ossiarch bone reapers and nigh haunt and flesh eaters court are. Ogres are bad ass as well.
I have three of these armies lol, glad you liked the video!
Great work on these videos. Could you please add links in the description (maybe edit previous ones) to publisher/reseller/main website for each game. That would add a lot of value and help when looking for a particular games when showing your vids to others people. Thanks
Sure! I'll start working on that to update the old videos
Thank you for taking the time to read and answer comments. 😊
How is Heavy Gear Blitz from Dream Pod 9 not on either of these lists?
It's on my list to eventually cover, I do know about it I just didn't have the time to add it to either of the lists
Timestamps would be good
They are being worked on! By the end of the week all recent videos and everything going forward should have them
If you wanna put more emphasis that this is not a tiered/ranked list, then consider using "Option A, Option B, etc" instead of #8 to #1.
Gasland your are on point best gateway to war gaming i made it itno mario kart gaslands
I'd really like to try out a wild west game. If folks could recommend one (whether from this list or elsewhere) as "the one to get", what would that be?
I've been looking for a solo wargames (ideally miniatures) that can you can fit and play on your work desk. 2'x2' max, but also fitting most cards or other things you need on the table. If you have any suggestions I would love to hear them!
Great list. I've put Mutant Year Zero in my cart at least a dozen times. Just haven't pulled the trigger yet. I'd also add The Silver Bayonet to the list.
I recommend The Doomed. Brutal solo play, can be pvp, or even pvpve/coop. Easy, minimalist rules, and a *ton* of monsters to fight, with good AI rules.
Thanks for the recommendation!
I would love it if you took a look at a few of my games from Four-Color Studios. Great list! Love the Five series!
I'll check them out for sure!
The Five Series is a solid bet for certain. Another great solo game from Nordic Weasel Games is Weasel-Tech; a solo fast paced mecha experience whose procedural generarion is very anime themed. Currently also available on Wargame Vault but the IP was purchssed by Modiphius and will likely be relesead under a new name.
I'll have to look for it!
How about Deth Wizards? I bought a book but haven't have chance to play yet
Mainly because I did not realize that was a solo game, I have it on my list to look into but didn't get a chance before the video had to come out
Bear in mind that in the 'Five' series, 'Five Leagues From the Borderlands' and 'Five Parsecs From Home' are originals from Modiphius, 'Five Clicks From The Zone', while based on Modiphius' system, is from Nordic Weasel Games. Another reason to shop for Wargames Atlantic minis is the wide range of customisation options in the box. For a squad of 10 for example, instead of 10 bodies, 10 heads, 10 pairs of arms, etc; you get a good number of surplus arms and heads to give you more variety (handy if you're army building) plus plenty of fodder left over to fill your bits box 😎👍
It's still all done by the same writer so I figured grouping them would be good, also I love Wargames Atlantic for the customization as well!
Five Parsecs and Five Leagues were originally released from Nordic Weasel Games before Ivan entered partnership with Modiphius. He eventually sold the IP rights to those two games as well as a few other IP's he had been releasing on his own.
Name it WOAT.
worth mentioning is Nuts! is but one of many games made by Two Hour Wargames on the same core ruleset - they have lots of games like this, in various flavours and styles.
I should have out two and two together that Nuts! WW2 was not the only Nuts! System... thanks for pointing that out I'll have to look into the others!
@@Wargamerofalltrades Close... Nuts! Is the WW2 system. There are others, sometimes maintained, sometimes replaced, sometimes already abandoned how they were at some point... The core system is known as Chain Reaction. Other games in the "family" would be, for example, FNG (about Vietnam) and the 5150 series (games about various parts of their own sci-fi setting - from being a Blade Runner ripoff, to commanding squads of marines)
How did you end up with a green pig with eyes all over as a mascot? Because my daughter has a coin bank that looks exactly like that... it's eerie!
A random drawing prompt led to the creation of it, and I really liked it so I asked my wife to make more
@@Wargamerofalltrades Was your wife inspired by a coin bank from the dollar store? I have to send you a picture, it's really quite a coincidence.
Nevermind that, it was given away to goodwill so I can't send you a picture. But it was the creepiest little piggy bank I have ever seen in my life.
I would have loved to see a picture, but no the keywords were, Eldritch, Jiggly and Slime.
@@Wargamerofalltrades It wasn't created, it was summoned unto the world to sow chaos and destruction. At first meant to collect coins, it was hungry for SOULS! Not content with siphoning a child's innocence, it has taken over a dark corner of the internet (sorry, no offense to your channel). Porculus Prime, the Harbringer of Greed, is not to be owned... it wants to own it all!
I Second Snarling Badger.!! Mini agnostic and just fun!
I'll for sure have to try it out!
YES!!!! SOLO GAMES!!!! Solo modes are like an insurance policy. If your friends hate it, you can STILL get your money and time's worth. I've bought so many of these because I know I can play them long after everyone else moves on (and I live in a country where pretty much everyone only plays Legion, 40k, and maybe some AoS). I do not why more designers make these.
Yeah Solo games are an amazing resource!
Great list! Other notable solo games are the offerings by Snarling Badger Studios. Their first game, Reign in Hell, only had solo play tacked on as an afterthought, but their other games have had solo and multiplayer in mind from the ground up.
Thanks, I'll have to look into them!
thanks for covering some of these. I know your not capturing everything, but i am going to list great games i think you missed. I would say that Elder Scrolls has Solo options as a "mode", i don't believe its a dedicated solo game. I could list about 10 more, but the below are really great games (look at games from: Snarling Badger, Black Site Studios, the "28M" Games and Patrick Todoroff they are creators of a lot of solo miniature skirmish games). 1) Fear The Dark: Excellent Mythos style Solo Game 2) Sellswords and Spellslingers: Fantasy solo (I like it more than ROSD). 3) Space Station Zero: Solo Sci-Fi Spaceship exploration (Snarling Badger Games). 4) County Road Z: Zombie Solo (picked up by Modiphius). 5) Hametsu: Solo Japanese Monster Hunting (Black Site Studios). 6) Nightwatch: Fantasy Solo. 7) Blood in Space & Blood on the Blade: Sci-fi & Fantasy Games. 8) Chrome Hammer Ascension: Cyberpunk Solo. 9) Exploit Zero: Cyberpunk Solo. 10) DAK Attack: Much better than Nuts. Spec Ops North Africa game. 11) Dont Look Back: 80s Slasher Movie Solo Game (Blacksite Studios). 12) Horizon Wars: Zero Dark: Sci-Fi Solo. 13) The Doomed! Solo Kitbash Game. 14) Farthest Star: Solo Sci-Fi. 15) Perilous Tales: Solo Pulp. (this game is Free from the "Gaslands" creator.)
The main reason I make these is so I get suggestion like this, I will definitely be looking into these!
@@Wargamerofalltrades More: 16) Spectre Ops: Modern Special Ops Warfare. 17) Weasel-Tech: Solo Giant robot Game 18) Space Weirdos & Sword Weirdos: Fantasy & Sci-Fi. 19) Warlord Ascendant: Solo OSR RPG heavy fantasy skirmish. 20) Lasting Tales: Fantasy Solo 21) The Woods: Fantasy Fairy Solo RPG style 22) Brutality: Any Setting Solo 23) Renegades: Near Future Warbands Solo 24) Prehistoric Settlement: solo Paleolithic Village game (Rick Barber Game) 25) Tusk: solo Paleolithic Hunting Game
You've given me at least one if not two other videos, thank you!
Wow... you've given me some research to do!! I have Brutality Skirmish Wargame. Haven't played it yet but love what I've read and seen with regards to the rules and lore!! (I also have many that appear in this video).
@@shaneannigans Also 26) Brutal Quest: Solo Fantasy Version of Planet 28 27) Planet 28: Sci-fi Miniature solo Game spawned many of the "28" miniature games and the "28M" creator community. 28) Battlespace: Modern War solo skirmish 29) Frontline Heroes: WWII Solo Skirmish 30) Majestic 13: Alien Hunting Solo (Snarling Badger) 31) Zone Raiders: Far Future Skirmish Solo game 32) Fade Beyond the Veil: Souls/bloodborne Like Solo game. 33) Dungeon Scum: Dungeon Crawl Solo 34) Operation Last Train: Sci-fi Humans vs Bugs Solo Game (Joseph McCullough) 35) Slugfest: Super Hero Solo Skirmish Game. 36) This is not a Test: Solo nuclear apocalypse fallout style game.
Gelatinous Pig
Mythic Commander by Modiphius is a incredibly cheap fantasy wargame
Thanks for the recommendation! I'll add it to my now very long list
I know it's nitpicky but the plurals don't need apostrophes, it's just "scenarios" and "pros", sorry for being a smartass, great video
You're fine, I have a problem with my own GM shorthand leaking into the videos that have a lot of bad habits...
