1990 Joe Meyer & Son Tom Shaer Interview NBC5 Chicago
This old VHS tape was labeled "Tom Shaer CH 5 -- Joey and Son." Shaer was at Alumni Hall to get a quick interview to preview DePaul's upcoming 1990 NIT gave against Creighton. The camera guy was rolling tape to get some stock footage of Aluni Hall and captured a lot of interaction with Coach Joe and his son Brian. Shaer must have sent a copy over to Coach Joe. Not much to this but this one is more for the Meyer family.

DePaul vs St. John's 2nd round 1987 NCAA Tournament. One of my all-time favorite memories of DePaul games at the Rosemont Horizon. Unbelievably loud when DePaul ties up the game on a Rod Strickland layup after a Dallas Comegys intentionally missed free throw. DePaul wins in overtime. Joey Meyer vs Lou Carnesecca and plenty of star players: Dallas Comegys, Rod Strickland, Mark Jackson, Willie Gl...

"Hi Coach" Midway Airlines commercial (1980s) -- Mike Ditka and Ray Meyer

Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka hams it up with DePaul basketball coach Ray Meyer for this commercial for (now defunct) Midway Airlines. I had this old VHS tape for a couple of years, but it was in watchable condition. You could hear the audio, but the video was unwatchable. Special thanks to Video Memories in Elmhurst for working their magic on this tape to get it back to life. Great memory for...
DePaul at Cincinnati 1992

Very exciting game and another great memory. Rowdy crowd at The Shoe. A battle for first place in the newly formed Great Midwest Conference between the DePaul Blue Demons and the 16th ranked Cincinnati Bearcats. A late comeback by DePaul and Howard Nathan saves the day. Nathan strips Nick Van Exel of the ball on the last play of the game and the Demons run out the clock for the two-point win. H...

DePaul vs Loyola Marymount 1/14/89. We've seen better defense played in Hayes-Healy on campus at DePaul. Stanley Brundy with 41 points and 22 rebounds to lead the Blue Demons. Run-and-Gun game that got a little too close with about 5 minutes remaining before DePaul stretched out the lead at the end. Hank Gathers played in this game for LMU, just about a year before he tragically passed away. Co...

This is uploaded from a very old VHS tape I'm surprised that I got it to work at all. So, I apologize in advance for the low video quality. ❤ NBC. College. Hoops
I was at this game. Most notable for an incident at halftime: BYU's internationally acclaimed ballroom dance team was performing when UCLA came back on the floor REAL early, like 4:30 left. Their band started playing, throwing off the dancers. Then the PA announcer said "would the dancers please leave the floor". The crowd booed so loudly the band could not be heard at all. When the DePaul players came out they were shaken by the thunderous reception. They were the home team. Ray Meyer mentioned how the crowd helped carry his team to the end. He loved Provo so much that he wanted to stay there the next weekend for the Final 4 and bus up to SLC for the games but the NCAA wouldn't let him.
I just got back from Iraq
Fond memories here. Rod Strickland and Mark Jackson both had very nice NBA careers….Rod’s flair is very apparent already. Both programs were in their sunset…Especially DePaul…Made a few runs with Strickland and Edwards but not much after both left. Literally nothing for 30 yrs. A shame
Great game!!
This was a fun one! Loved the Blue Demons back in the day!
Nov 29 1991
David Rivers vs Rod Strickland! 💯❤️
Great Upload!
Would love to see if you have any Ronnie Fields videos from recruiting.
That would be awesome. But no I don't.
@@coachraymeyer7719 thanks so much for the response and great uploads.
So many people have no idea how relevant De Paul was in the 80s.
Comegys was the player of the game for sure
Ray Meyer's last NCAA Tournament win. Too bad he never got to a title game let only win a Championship
The former Suncoast Dome became the PepsiCo, Inc., Tropicana Products, Inc. Division Field. Also. In 1986, Capital Cities Communications, Inc. purchased ABC, becoming Capital Cities/ABC, Inc. Then, in 1995, The Walt Disney Company purchased Capital Cities/ABC., Inc. 😀👌
Hank!!! North philly!!!
I see Doug Edwards , I remember having a ton of 1st Rd draft pick cards that never panned out
The level of respect Tommy Kleinschmidt commanded was unreal. Went to a couple of the same camps back in HS and no one... I mean NO ONE F'ed with this dude. He had like a Tyson awrah about him. If the UFC was what it is now back in the 90's... Tommy 'Iron Fist" Kleinschmidt would have been a world champion.
Team was Final Four ready until Booth sprained his ankle.
I was at that game and I vividly remember it as being an adrenaline rush. What an amazing “come from behind” victory!
I remember watching this at the age of 10. It was a relief to see a close game after the Michigan State Penn blowout in the other Semifinal. I was disappointed DePaul lost. I wasn't on Indiana State bandwagon.😊
I would’ve never guessed DePaul 6 straight trny appearances in mid to late 80s
I was at this game along with the 1992 game at home against Notre Dame, thanks for posting, these bring back some great memories.
Kenny Patterson was a top New York City Point Guard!!!!!!!!!!! Why he was not mention in the top point guards in New York? I do not know why. He was really good.
Pure class from Ray and Joey. Pure, absolute class.
Penny first college game. I was glued to the television
:54... Zo and Mutombo!
Thanks for sharing. Basketball was so much better to watch during the era. I have coached over 40 years. The game is so different now. Bird in college is a most view for young kids. He was so much fun to watch.
It just used to mean more. College hoops will never be like this again
Does anybody know why DePaul just is not the same in basketball like it was back in the 80s?
DePaul has two problems; One, they don’t get the HS 4 Star and 5 Star players like Mark Aguirre, Terry Cummings, Rod Strickland, even Tom Kleinschmidt. That’s basically from the late 1970s to the early 1990s, save the early 2000s with the Quentin Richardson teams leads to point number Two, they don’t get the local kids either like they used to, Corey Maggette to Eddy Curry to Jabari Parker and even Jahlil Okafor. None of them except Okafor I believe even thought about DePaul. I hope someone adds to my thoughts for you….
@@Rastablkmn2u actually what you said makes sense because of conference realignment and you can see a lot of games so the kids are stuck going to the home university
March 16 1989
That was an era of greatness and true sportsmanship! I remember Kenny Patterson demonstrating his skills on State Street while playing at The Robert Taylor Homes. He randomly showed up on a bright and sunny day and dominated!
The Tomb of Doom!
Was this Joeys last tournament win? I remember them playing in the NIT in 1990, losing in the first round in ‘91 and ‘92. Then it was the NIT for the next 3 or 4 years, and Joey was gone after the 1997 season
The game looks different when dribbling is required
😂😂😂😂😂😂 so true
Jan 16 1988
lol Do you just post games DePaul won?
Duh it’s a DePaul basketball fan account……
Thank you for the upload!
Even at his most atrocious game, Penny could hit some clutch shots. Born for basketball
Stanley Brundy was a “man child” with these stats 👍🏾
Back when college sports was so fun. Now it absolutely sux

Remember in college 🏀 when being on TV really meant something. These featured games got the royal treatment. The announcing was so thorough and such quality. What a contrast to today.

The graphic misspelling Thom Brennaman’s name is pretty hilarious
ND had some damn nice cheerleaders back in the day...
You wouldnt happen to have the Indiana vs Depaul game from December 1996, at the United Center? TIA
I don't think so. I don't recall seeing that one.

@@Basketball25339 I'm running out of tapes that are viewable. These VHS tapes weren't made to survive this long. I don't have a lot from those last few years of Coach Joe (other than what's already posted). I have the DePaul vs Louisville (TK 4 point play) game, but there's no audio.
Thanks for the upload.
Aguirre showed up big in his freshman year, just wow. A Hall of Fame player, really. Back then Greenwood was expected to have a great career, but that freshman was the true star. The Iron 5, how did they do it? Wow.
