Id argue Zars ult to be a gravitational field more like or it is a replecant black hole that only has a fraction of the gravitational force of one. Also sigma is crazy op in lore standards of powers. The galactic emperor seems like an alternate timeline.

I disagree with your implications. The moon map clearly has a special spherical area where the IS atmosphere (how otherwise would characters breathe?) Also any character can break those concrete railings. Even with a singular punch. Does it mean they can boil 3.4L of water in less than a second? I dont think so. I think the blackbody radiation is a solid theory tho

2:49 "Actually... ☝️🤓" But, uhm, yeah, particles can not travel planetary distances in a fraction of a second, as you said, because no particle can travel faster than the speed of light, and we know that it takes radio waves and other light-based communication messages around 8 minutes to reach mars, one of our closer planetary neighbors.

Even if a few of your assumptions are off I do think a weapon like that even as described would ignite the atmosphere and kill us all before they ever got a chance to test the ult

We're speaking physics in terms of concrete when all it takes every hero is a single quick melee to destroy an entire concrete railing. Was honestly just a bad way of going about describing the strength of Zarya's Particle Cannon, even if it was for the fun of it. Edit: I just watched the end of this video, and he DID acknowledge that any action will destroy railings. I commented too early. I apologise.

The water part is where you lost me. As a physics major, I know that’s not the only way to make a solid object shatter into multiple pieces. You forgot about crystals and the fact that when there’s a significant temperature difference between layers, they can break and usually shatter at multiple fragile points. Boiling water was just a non-sense.

As a scientist enthusiasts i think the name "particle cannon" is the best description for ANY gravity-based and energy-based weapons. This a boiled down speculations and my interlects lack the required maths to prove so take this with an ocean of salt. We all know the famous E=mc^2 and it relations to energy and mass but for the grav-surge, i think OW thought about it deeper than i think. It revolved about a certain particle, namely it is undiscovered so we shall call it Graviton, which by definition gives objects with mass(which given mass by the God's particle, the HIGGs-Boson) gravitational properties (which not been proven, yet). For the laser, a rough summary: Particles from cannon need to collide with air molecules to form the plasma, thus need energy and heat. To create heat, we make the particles to go vibrate faster and faster, which use energy. Suspose we got unlimited energy from a magical charge port, we fired up the gun, make the particle "excited" and collide with air molecules, which form the "lazer". So, ta-da, a cannon that heating air particles to a plasma column and shooting pseudo blackholes.

We can probably write off any scientific or technical based weapon name as only originating from our (relatively primitive as of in-game) modern understanding of physics and chemistry, It's like how we call mechanical pencil graphite "pencil lead," although in this case the two chemicals serve the same purpose and seem similar, there is fundamentally no lead in modern mechanical pencil refills. The name stuck around, though

More specifically, as nothing more than the biologically strongest human infantry unit on the planet, Zarya genuinely believes she is - shooting a particle cannon in our understanding of the term, *but also* it generates light far beyond that caused by its physical movement through Earth atmosphere (or no atmosphere at all), *and also* it somehow generates black holes with enough weapon usage *but also* those black holes somehow only display their gravitational properties upon contact with a solid material *but also* those gravitational properties do not instantly destroy the planet on a physical level - because that's as best as we can describe it with our advanced modern understanding of physics, by which in-game time is logically an appropriate level of knowledge for a high-ranking Neo-Soviet footsoldier.

And even simpler but still related justification also works: these are the real life modern concepts that the weapons experts intended to emulate during their initial development of the weapons. As is the case in real life, whether or not those now primitive scientific understandings are actually involved in the practical technology behind the weapon does not actually matter in regards to how it's commonly known as.

Sure, much of the information is in a literal sense minimally applicable but, the information itself is still quite valuable. Knowing the optimal, even if unreasonable, allows you to be more optimal by making you more reasonable. (Holy shit banger quote) What I mean by this is that if you know where best to shot any character in an ideal scenario, you don't just learn that specific information but learn how to temper your circumstances closest to the ideal, (since even junkrat will benefit by allowing you to aim where most generous). This still also applies with knowing the absolute peak of a characters survivability. With that info, based on how much dps you're taking on what character, you can make more informed decisions on when you may die and how to survive since you know where your maximum time alive. Also goes offensively too, since you know the absolute minimum amount of time it would take to kill a character no matter your dps.
