Saiyan are warriors. It is not that they were told not to take care of their child, but it is writing on their genes. Think about it Saiyan children get to grow their tail multiple times while grown adult don't. Meaning that that tail serves as defensive protection that literary tell you that Saiyan moms didn't meant to raise their kids. Saiyans love combat and nothing else. The only thing that a Saiyans like is to fight. Raising a child, falling in love are secondary things for real Saiyans. That is why Goku and Vegeta look like bad parents and husbands when we judge the way they act. But is not that they are bad husband or parents, is that their Saiyan nature is way different than the one of human. They kind of had to adapt to human behavior, but their true nature was the one of fighter. You can see that with kid Goku. If you don't understand that then you are not a real DB/Z/Super fan at all.
