Any reason I shouldn't do this to the long blade of my 91mm Compact? (It doesn't have a small blade.) I love this SAK. I just wish it had an awl and a saw. I figure I could slim the blade at least to make a long awl/whittling knife. Thanks for your videos!

Very great job... I think it's better to use a lead holder and you can hide the graphite inside it or you can use a regular pencil and hide it inside the cap of the fountain pen.

Can a rollerball refill fit in the pen, I'm not fond of ballpoint. I like the casing but would like to find a needlpoint refill that fits.

Mine is 0.7 preference as well. It slides more smooth for me on the paper and it's more resistant than 0.5. A matter of tastes anyway.

How hard is it to disable the 111mm range? and I’m looking to remove the liner lock, and grind the blade down to 3”. Then if that isn’t too bad what about getting the right rivet size for the scales to stick too?

Another thing you can do is if you get some good drill bits you can instead of making pins to fit the holes, make the holes to fit your pin stock. Probably easier to get a good fit and the couple tenths of a mm difference wouldn’t be noticed. Just a suggestion.

A machinist trick for marketing metal is use a magic marker or sharpie and ink up the area you are working on and when dry, use a scribe to scratch a line where you want to cut.

Whoa, i never knew they made mini swiss army knives with a little pen!!

You can easily make any size pin you need by starting with a larger diameter size rod, chuck it up in the drill press and file, sand and lap it as it is turning, if you don't have a small evough lathe. Or you can use a regular drill or Dremel if no drill press.

Have you tried a bead, I bought a used Huntsman with dark hardwood scales and thought I would find a leather lace to make a lanyard. A wood bead like you might carve on a camping trip might finish it off nicely. The hole would have to be larger.

I just got one with a new translucent (grey) Classic SD and also ordered with it a key ring with a little Swiss army cross charm and paracord knotted short lanyard. I took the paracord lanyard off the ring and charm that I don't use. I put the lanyard thing on the clip with the silicone case and carry that in my coin pocket with the lanyard sticking out. I carry it in my coine pocket when I'm wearing jeans and I carry my kershaw in my regular pocket alone with the Swiss army SD. It's also nice to have for in the summer when I'm wearing shorts and don't want to carry a bigger knife, because pocket knives with pocket clips don't work very good with shorts. The silicone case is cool because it keeps dust and pocket lint from getting in the knife. I got the same one (brown) although I didn't realize that it was going to look like a cow. I just got it because it's brown and looks good with the Grey knife. I'm loving it, I use it more than my primary knife I carry.

If you are interested in a bit of history the plus refers to the scales having a slot for a pen & pin. Your knife is to old to be an original Champion Plus, I believe the previous owner replaced the scales with the plus version. The good news is you have the earlier magnifier, the second version which was in use when they first released the Champion Plus was the all plastic version it also had a tenancy for the lens to fall out. The current magnifier has a glass lens again as does the original but the original is 8x power as opposed to 6x power in the current version.

For the pencil - are you able to use the Pentel erasers as a refill? or do you need to Caran D'Ache erasers to replace them with? Curious about the size because I also use both the Pentel mechanical pencil as well as the Caran D'Ache 849 pen. I'm considering the 844 pencil to go with my pen - but want easy eraser replacements since I use the erasers all the time!

You should try a thinner grain and water sandpaper to a better and shinny finnish. I think that a 600 grit is a bit too rough. I would try with a 1000+ grit.

Recommand the HIKER have all the essentials big and small blade and a saw no corckscrew 2 layers so pretty comfortable

Thanks for a great video that shows the makeup of a typical Swiss Army knife. I can offer a few tips to enlighten your viewers in hopes of making their knife journey a bit easier, starting with, Tip #1. I recently contacted Victorinox regarding service and repair work on several of my Executive knives that are no longer made; (l needed new scales). While it used to be that they would do repairs for free, it appears that they, like many other companies have done, have changed their policies. Now you have to fill out a form online and send in your knife and they will do an estimate of the cost and notify you before starting repairs. I was told that the cost can run from $50.00 U.S. on up, not exactly inexpensive for sure, and they discourage doing any repairs yourself, even something as simple as changing your own scales! That is exactly why I decided to look, where else, but on You Tube, and eBay. Tip # 2, I believe the proper name for the piece that you referred to as the small bushings would be, a ferrule with a countersink, or a countersunk ferrule. Since those are most likely made by the thousands on a screw machine for Victorinox, it would be a good idea, as you suggested, to carefully preserve those since without access to a small lathe, they would be very hard to duplicate. For those with a small lathe, the material can be had by following the next tip, #3. Tip # 3, Most, if not all of the small brass rods that comprise the riveted pins can be purchased on McMaster Carr's website at <mcmaster.com>. Once at their web site just do a search on the left starting with, Raw Material, Metal, Brass, then Rods, and go from there. I would choose the Ultra-Formable 260 Brass Rods. A 2.4 mm diameter rod is actually 3/32" or .0937" in diameter, and one piece, 12" long, will cost about $1.42 U.S., plus shipping. The 2.2 mm (.0866") seems to be a weird size and may actually be something close to that, (like .081") because it's not likely that Victorinox would not use an off-size diameter when a standard would do. If it really is that odd diameter, it might require a substitute that comes closest to it on McMasters web site. One last bit of information I learned is, Wenger, the other Swiss knife brand was purchased by Victorinox, and the name Weger will be retired forever. Thanks again for a very informative video.
